Well, the Church never taught or possessed “biblically based” anything. The bible is church-based, since it does not form a church, but reflects an already established Church. The Church had the entire deposit of faith (some of it written), and taught from that - the incomplete bible being only a part of it. The problem for many non-C/non-O faith communities is that they are “bible based”, since the bible contains only a portion of God’s revealed truth. The Church produced the bible, not the other way round. Confusion, division and disagreement is produced when reversing this process.
