Critics Taunt Dr. Anthony Fauci for Watching Baseball Game Without a Mask

I never said or implied they were strangers.

(But I did not go as far as you concerning spouses with this guy and gal sitting on opposite sides of Fauci.)
But if they’re not strangers, then social distancing doesn’t necessarily apply. You’re making assumptions so you can justify calling Fauci out. All we have is a picture with zero context. Based on that, we can’t say whether he’s doing something wrong or not.

And obviously, he’s not married to them both. I’m saying that’s another example of a situation in which social distancing doesn’t apply.

So what exactly is the law where he is.

I do not care if he wears a mask or not. He is a big boy, he does not need mommy telling him what to do.

BUT…if the law says to have a mask, then he should be wearing it.

FWIW, the doctor said the woman was his wife and the man was a good friend who was wearing a mask. The doctor added that he lowered the mask to take in some water as he felt dehydrated.

Muted…

so you can justify calling Fauci out.
Except I have not “called Fauci out”.

I agreed with him (in his actions).

I have heard a lot of excuses made for Fauci not following his own recomendations.

Things like . . .
They may also be coworkers from the NIH who are tested constantly.
Look. I agree.

It was the same thing when Vice President Pence was unmaked in a Mayo Clinic lab.

Yet the response from the left in the media was entirely different (and my reaction was entirely consistent).

As a matter-of-fact I heard a Mayo scientist say the mask mandate there was not for in the lab but for in the hallway (sorry. I don’t have a link for that.)

Yet the media did not report that.

VP Pence AND the lab people were likely getting frequently tested too.

Yet the left excoriated VP Pence for this. (Now they defend Fauci and make excuses).

Just last week there was ripping from a leftist political operative against Senator Ted Cruz for unmasking for drinking his coffee that was right in his hand.
The media picked up on it and asked him to explain himself.

The left came so unhinged, someone notified the airlines and the airlines “opened an investigation” against Senator Cruz over the whole thing even though Cruz’ coffee cup was right in his hand.

A Democrat operative said that Senator Cruz “refused” to wear a mask on the plane. (It was a lie.)

Florida Surpasses 200K Coronavirus Cases; Fatality Rate Remains Low World News
A self-appointed mask-sheriff attempting to attack Senator Cruz . . . . (Political satirist Mark Dice with some very real footage of how someone [a Democrat congressional campaign committee staffer who was given a photo of Cruz on the plane] attempted to publicly discredit Senator Ted Cruz lying about Cruz saying he “refusing to wear a mask”. Also showing some of the left either not heeding or believing their own mask words aimed at you.) [Masks! clown_face] “Sheriff” Hosseh instead of j…
When a Cruz photo was shown without his coffee AND wearing a mask, the leftist criticism morphed into something about how it is still Cruz’s fault for not at least looping the mask on his ear when coffee-drinking.

Nobody is fooled by this kind of thing. At least the conservatives are not fooled.

I think it would be good for the media to just admit it.
They were peddling propaganda for political purposes.

I think the inconsistencies give it away.
I think the inconsistencies suggest the carping from the left was political and this running around enforcing mask-wearing and even social distancing with threats of law (fines and in some cases jail) is ALSO political.

I don’t think the media believes what it says about much of this (propaganda).

I think the media gets uncomfortable when it gets exposed.

(name removed by moderator) concluding for “we” . . .
We shall have to once again it would appear draw our own conclusions.
Or maybe somebody can call the police against him.

In all fairness to Fauci, there is some bottled water in front of him and I am going to assume it is his AND he is about to drink it.
That’s generous. However, it’s obvious that when he’s done looking at and possibly responding to his friend, he will resume whatever he’s doing with his cellphone - he’s not about to drink.

He deserves only a reminding and not taunting about this - to be human is to err.

My takeaway is that if Fauci himself can slip with mask safety, reopening entertainment or sports events would be extremely foolish.

I noticed a peculiar difference between when a Conservative was photographed without a mask as opposed to a Democrat when this happened…

This latest just confirms it more.

If you are on the proper side of the media, it is ignored or even praised.

If not…

Yaaaawn! It must have been a slow news day.

Far more important is that my Chicago Cubs are undefeated following an historic performance by Kyle Hendricks, the winning pitcher. In a complete game shutout he allowed only three singles by the #9 hitter, Orlando Arcia, and no Milwaukee player reached second base. If Arcia had stayed home, it would have been a perfect game to open the season. Hendricks struck out 9 and walked no one.

The real problem with this Breitbart posting is that it undermines public compliance with public health directives by downplaying the difference between being outdoors with a couple of close friends and being indoors around many unrelated people. I can well imagine that if Breitbart were a British newspaper in 1939 they would see no problem with publishing an article with the headline “While Ordinary Brits are Told to Keep their Lights Out, Winston Churchill was Reportedly Reading Military Reports in his Underground Bunker with the Light On! Don’t You Think We Brits ought to be Able to Assess our own Risk and Make Our Own Decisions Instead of Following Blackout Instructions like Sheep?”

Do you have anything more than just a straw man to throw up?
The text just before my hypothetical was not a strawman. I will repeat it for you:

The real problem with this Breitbart posting is that it undermines public compliance with public health directives by downplaying the difference between being outdoors with a couple of close friends and being indoors around many unrelated people.

Well at least you acknowledge half your post is.
Once again, the part you ignored was:

Once again, the part you ignored was:
The participants are indicating it is perfectly fine to go to a ball game with friends and without your mask.

Of course, it could be argued that he is drinking from the bottle in front of him. But what bottle is the woman drinking from?
Perhaps they were tested, and know they are not at risk…but why the masks at all then?

Perhaps they have been tested, know the risks, and decided the risks were acceptable.
I agree with that. Know your risk, act accordingly.

Of course, what is the law where they are?
Is there a mandate in place? If so, they are telling everyone it is fine to violate the mask laws.

And one last thing…
The person taking the photo is not responsible for the actions of those in the photo.

I don’t think the contrast is that great in this example. Yes they are outdoors, but their faces (one unmasked) are maybe 24 inches apart. And in terms of the visual, the public sees three people taking no less risk than if they were sitting there for hours with faces so close. However, yes in the public interest the media should try to encourage compliance, because we should expect a level of confusion from confusing visuals (i.e., don’t report it).

And you are still ignoring the very posting you are nominally responding to - the part about undermining public compliance with public health directives.
