apparently, even Mormons do not believe cumorah amounts to a hill of beans…

And if I were Mormon, I would know that transubstantiation is irrational. See what I’m getting at here?
I would say that you are not familiar with what “irrational” means.

Transubstantiation transcends rational thought. But it is not irrational. Not even close.

I’ve simply asked how we might disprove revelation and if we can’t, why archaeological evidence is necessary.
That’s easy Grace. Their god was once a man. Our God has always been God. So where is their revelation coming from? Not the One True Living God. But back to the topic. If I where a Mormon prophet or apostle and had some say, I would say “dig up cumorah that people will see if we are the true church and our god truly is god”

Is that how it’s spelled? huh…
The LDS is actually trying to suggest that since the BoM lands were probably in Central America, that there are two Cumorah hills, one in Central America, the other in New York.

OOO!
Guess where Joseph Smith probably got the name Cumorah: **Comoros *Island !!!
He had maps, the name “Comoros” was likely available to him, BUT GET THIS…
MORONI
is the capital of the semi-autonomous island Grande Comore !!!

Some Mormons might say that well yeah, but it wasn’t made
the capital until 1958, but it’s still pretty incriminating I think.

*(For those who don’t know, *Moroni *is a
Mormon angel [once a man] who buried
the Gold Plates and told Joseph where
to find them).

I have always wondered where Mormons acquired the belief that human beings could become angels. The only other people I have heard this from are either children or adults who have never been exposed to Christian theology.

As to the “Grande Comore” / Moroni issue, I have always found this most interesting. Who cares when Moroni became the capital? It was on the map.

Actually, gotta side a little with the Mormons on this one: The idea of humans becoming angels is not completely unheard of. In certain mystical traditions in Judaism, such as the Kabbalah, the prophet Elijah transfigures into the angel Sandalphon. Even Enoch is said to have transformed into the angel Metatron (3 Enoch 9:1-5; 15:1-2).
(Funny, that means Enoch was in the movie Dogma)

But no, of course humans cannot become angels, I’m not
say that, I’m just pointing out that Joseph Smith was not
the first kook with this concept.

Which is why I qualified my statement with the words “Christian theology”.

The Book of Enoch is not recognized as canonical by either Christians or Jews (other than a small sect). The Mormons are known for their zeal in finding anything written by anyone that supports any facet of their belief. It is then proposed that it was the truth and was lost during the Great Apostasy, hidden from the world by the whore of Babylon, only to be restored by Joseph Smith.

Very Good Point!

Still, no Mormon has responded. Worse, if you even bring up the topic on an LDS board, you get banned.

Again, that should tell you all you need to know about the LDS faith

What should it tell me?

That LDS are not willing to dialogue?

I think that the fact that there have been numerous LDS who have engaged in all sorts of dialogue here on the CAFs belies that fact…🤷

As seen on my profile, one of my heroes is Shawn McCraney, Mormon 40 years then
left, hosted his own show a few years called Heart of the Matter, “Where Mormonism
and Biblical Christianity Meet Face to Face.” He is kinda against Roman Catholicism,
but personally I don’t blame him, coming out of Mormonism, the LDS Church, and how
he may have a phobia of sorts towards major and well established Churches.

Nevertheless, Shawn has posed as a great opposition to the LDS Church and
Mormonism in general, presenting GREAT information, proving Joseph Smith a
false prophet, and had he been Catholic, I would certainly elect him as a saint.
(Yes, I know, saints aren’t elected by laity such as myself).

the Cumorah/Comoros bit, and the capital
of Moroni vs the angel Moroni deal).

I used to watch him all of the time.

You are right, he is/was a bit anti-Catholic, but I pinned his ears back on more than one issue he was wrong about. 😃

really? Show me a single LDS response on this thread…

I will be waiting

With this being the month that the Hill Cumorah Pageant is presented, this thread does have me wondering how the participants who canvas the audience are instructed to handle such questions?

If I recall correctly, back when I was a member of the cast, we did identify that hill as the place talked about in the BoM. Infact I think the old script of the pageant itself also identified the hill as the one and same place.

The script was changed in the mid-80’s. I have no idea of what it says now.

.
VERY typical for former Mormons. Probably even the most common reaction, even.
