I completely agree with you and Marie.
And as someone that began here as a believing Latter-day Saint that participated in many of the LDS-related threads (and I certainly did not come here to proselytize, and frankly, I don’t think most of the LDS posters do come here to proselytize, in my opinion), your assessment is correct. It becomes a “why bother” when you see the discussion (more like “discussion”) is pointless and non-substantive. I completely understand where the LDS posters are coming from in not participating in certain threads or responding to posts made by certain individuals, not because they don’t have arguments and reasons that they believe answer the objections or difficult matters, but because of what you stated. I know, because I was there, and did the same thing (and still do).
It is the “substantive discussion” that is needed. I’ve actually been reading some of the older LDS threads on the apostasy, and I wish soren1 still posted. His posts were phenomenal. I saved some of them because they have been very helpful to me, and really helped in my latest decisions.
