Curious about contemplative prayer

He is promoting centering prayer in that book and that book is thus a banned topic here on the forum

Obviously, you haven’t read his works otherwise you wouldn’t have made such a statement.

He quotes the two great saints and explains what they taught. What he teaches is no different than what the Carmelite Friars that I’ve studied under taught,

Sure I have – and I still have a whole bunch of them from my youth in my basement (and for readers – I do not recommend them).

This is a banned topic and we cannot discuss it.

Absolutely, but it is different than anything I’ve read before. Not even the “trads” speak against the Cloud. 😉

The author is obviously on fire with his faith, and if you like it, it is wonderful. You don’t have to be a scholar, but you need faith to enjoy it.

Like others said, the author himself cautions that this book isn’t for everybody. He says if the book doesn’t speak to you, then don’t read it.

My guess is you’ll know very soon if you’ll like it. There are many translations, some hard to read. I got the one by William Johnston which was the one recommended by a priest in a video I saw about the Cloud.

There are online versions, but I don’t know which ones if any are good translations.

Thanks Alan. It is like having a puzzle it front of you, all put together and given a glimpse of it. Then someone mixes it all up and going from memory putting the pieces together. Samson

The blog is teaching incorrect CP not what Fr Keating teaches, so obviously, it’s why the blogger doesn’t see it as contemplative prayer.

What the blogger is doing is taking misconceptions about CP d saying, this is what is it is, but it’s a distortion of what it is.

The blogger could also take the Mass as taught and used by some New Agers and say, this is what the Mass is, but obviously, he’d be incorrect in doing so. I’ve actually seen fundamentalist use such blog sites to show that the Catholic Mass is from pagan origins.

Contemplative Prayer, is opening ourselves up to God who dwells within, It is detaching from the preconceived notions we have of God and being open to him as he is, not as we have him to be. It is loving God because he is God, not because of what we want to experience from God.

To go to the center of my being where the Holy Trinity dwells, just being in His presence with an open heart, is all that contemplative prayer is. Nothing more.

Add to what I just posted, and you’re teaching something different.

Then go back and read again, you obviously missed what he said when you read them in your youth. 😛

Thanks Jim. Not trying to be argumentative, just this is a stumbling block for me for some time. I didn’t find it in the great heresy’s of the Churchs’ past. i don’t know were i read it though. Samson
