There is a field in back of my house, at least until some developer gets ahold of it. Critters I don’t want inside live there. We also host cats looking for a tasty meal. I occasionally toss meat scraps out of the back door to encourage them to hang around. We haven’t had any mice for some time now. We are about due for the annual invasion of the ants though. That seems to require chemistry.
 
On the morning news I heard about more brushfires in New South Wales. When you hear about it on the news, you imagine the whole place is burning! I know friends from out of town react that way whenever something bad happens here, even though it’s usually isolated to a relatively small area. Hopefully, there will be no loss of life and the fires won’t spread.

I think you knew more than I did for a while,I was concentrating on the ones an hour and a half drive from here in dairy country that usually doesn’t burn as easily.Thank God no one was seriously hurt that I know of and just the 18 houses lost.
I think there was about 40,000 hectares burnt.
It’s such a bad feeling of knowing that it’s going on,and can’t do much but pray.
I heard from a friend that they were unaffected ,near the fringes though.
Quite late in the season.It could have been much worse with a different wind change and the three fires down there joining up.

Seeing bits on the news can make it feel kind of abstract:) Yeah, like the whole place is on fire.
Prayers needed for those affected for sure.

😵 Are the fires out? We don’t havebut I’ve seen video of the ones out west in the USA and am horrified.
 
Pretty sure the ones in Vic are contained now,it has been cooler and raining a little too .I haven’t seen the news yet.
 
We were informed by the suits upstairs that the payroll for our division of the University has been raided for something or other. So, we have been told that the payroll for our division can’t be met for the last pay period and would some of us like to cut back on our hours.🤬😡 Our students are in a pay for service program. It’s unfair to them to use their fees for who knows what else and unfair to us who are not paid what we should be. Their motto: How Much Can We Screw Over Employees and What Students Don’t Know Won’t Hurt Us.

If the students are in a “pay for service” plan, then it seems to me that the monies they pay for this service are already encumbered for salaries to ensure the completion of the program. I don’t suppose there are any young-‘n’-hungry lawyers around, are there?

I’m sure there are but then I’m sure our services would no longer be required after some pious speech about overhead and IT requirements which are the excuses that seem plausible enough and cover just about every issue. No mention of the new layers of vice-presidents, provosts, deans, and of course the brand new VP for “diversity” plus the staff they all need. Arghhhd

No young-‘n’-hungry reporters willing to expose the corruption in our educational system?
 
I wish. Higher education bureaucrats and journalists appear to have a mutual admiration society.
