Cyclone about to hit Queensland

Well written!

I hear what Bob is telling us, but I don’t think connecting all these dots shows God’s wrath is upon us. Cyclonic activity is normal in the north of Australia and this particular one is not the biggest that has hit. Neither is the recent flooding around Brisbane the worst that’s occured. The bushfires which devastated Victoria two years ago were not the worst in that State’s history by any stretch of the imagination. The 1939 bushfires almost destroyed the entire state and the ashes landed on the Alps in New Zealand!! As Australia’s population has grown, then these normal natural events take on a new significance because there are more people in the path of these events and the value of their property is far higher. And don’t forget the role of the media in shaping ourb perceptions of doom and gloom. The media are throwing images of ‘disaster’ at us twenty four seven. They pervade our senses.

As Karoleck eloquently reminds us, Australia is a land of droughts and flooding rains and was captured as such in a famous poem, My Country, by Dorothea MacKellar. She wrote of Australia as a “wilful, lavish land” and a “Land of the rainbow gold, For flood and fire and famine, She pays us back threefold.” And that’s the way God made her.
I accept we are a nation of droughts and flooding rains and all the rest. I lived through the 1974 floods myself, with water under the house, and have felt the edge of cyclonic winds. But as a city dweller, like most Australians I’ve generally been fairly insulated against such climatic extremes.

However what gets to me is the timing, with the Victorian bushfires 3 months after draconian abortion legislation which didn’t even allow doctors the right to their own conscience? Likewise with the abortion debate hotting up in Queensland, following a recent court case involving a young couple from Cairns (!), which as you know had a near miss with Cyclone Yasi.

Finally we are also a nation that kills (read murders) 100,000 of its own unborn children every year. That’s about 300 a day. That’s the same as a city the size of Townsville every year, which was also close to the cylcone.

Now if God is a judge and concerned for all these destroyed lives, then how is He going to act? Ignore it? Hope it all goes away? Twiddle His thumbs?

And if He is going to judge a nation, what methods will He use? Since He’s not going to use generally supernatural methods, there are only a few options - natural disasters (most likely a series of them), economic dissster, or war. When it comes to the national scene, there’s not many options left. America persisted in the slave trade, and suffered it’s most deadly war as a result. Before World War II, Nazi Germany embarked on the Holocaust, Japan invaded China without cause, and the Soviet Union instituted the purges. The result - a divided, ruined Germany, a devastated Japan and 50 million dead in the Soviet Union during World War II.

Just historical coincidence, or judgment?

As to a supernatural cause not letting the world settle down, since the turn of the 20th century, we had a cocky European dominance, which led to 20 million young men killing each other in World War I, followed by a brief roaring twenties. This was then followed by a Great Depression and an even worse war. Just as we hoped we might get some peace, along came the Cold War, Nuclear MAD, and the Iron Curtain. Then the Iron Curtain came down, and we heard optimistic talk about a New World Order from Washington. Within a couple of years there was the first Gulf War, and not long after that 9/11, and ther resurgence of Islam, and a second Gulf War, with troops in remote Afghanistan. No matter what we did, something always went wrong.

Somehow I don’t think God and the Devil have any intention of letting the human race work out its own peaceful existence - the devil simply because he hates us, and God because He wants our attention on Him and not on this world.

And judgement is a part of it.

Bob ditto to all of that and I would add 50,000,000 pa globally. Euthansia raising its ugly head. gay marriage on the rise ( abortion and gay marriage in Fatima?) and God wont be upset?
Perhaps this thought is what keep the slippery slope slipping further and further down, and that is that God is OK placid by the whole situation.
Its true we have not had global war since WWII but we have had a massive war against the unborn. Indeed could be called a massive holocaust since then.

WWII we saw the very horrific and visual holocaust, since then we have witnessed in invisible holocause (abortion) and yet we are afraid to connect dots because its not sophisticated.

Often I just say that God Himself can now fix the problem its become to big and too hard and not enough labourers in the vineyard. So I pray for all of us and our world but would like Him to help because its become far too difficult.
Graceangel.

So far only one person is known to have been killed, however rescue crews are having difficulty reaching the worst hit areas due to massive amounts of debris.
Some 7,000 people remain in evacuation centres and thousands more are living in their battered homes without power or water supplies. Communication links have yet to be restored to many areas.
Officials have appealed for calm while rescuers try to reach residents. The towns of Mission Beach and Cardwell are still cut off; Cardwell suffered flooding after taking the full brunt of the storm.
Aerial images show city blocks in Cardwell reduced to mud, and boats thrown inland and stacked on top of each other.

Yes, the people escaped relatively unscathed. Many are now saying that Cyclone larry which ripped through the same are some years ago taught people a lot. Buildings were strengthened and that has paid off. Cardwell, which seems to be pretty well demolished, was made up of many older style buildings and suffered accordingly. However, Cyclone Yasi’s immense power has left some amazing images of destruction and mayhem. I saw one image today of a ten ton yacht just dumped up into the front yard of a house - along with its mooring platforms!!

What is really unfortunate is the fact that the north Queensland coast is home to nearly all of Australia’s sugar cane and banana growing. Both have been decimated.

I am in south eastern Victoria and now we are copping the tail of one of the spirals of Yasi. There has been torrential rain all day, there is severe flooding in Melbourne and other parts of the state. Video explanation right here.

It was really an amazing Cyclone. It was still a Category 1 after going inland for 500 miles!

Good reading from here Weary residents begin cyclone cleanup.
