Fanningā€™s agent, Cindy Osbrink, tells writer Henry Cabot Beck: "Iā€™ve been working with Dakota since she was five, and this is something we havenā€™t seen her do.
Time to find a new agent.

And WHERE are her parents?!?!

has anyone seen the scene?
does anyone know what context it is in?
does anyone know if itā€™s shown in graphic detail or suggested by direction only?

those questions would matter in the reason for the sceneā€™s existence.

I seem to recall an article not so long ago that said her parents approved of the role.

Must have been the hefty paycheck that convinced them to allow this to happen to their daughter, who for the record is a great actress, she didnā€™t need to do this part.

I have not seen it, but as far as I know itā€™s in graphic detail.

There ought to be laws against the graphic portrayal of such things. Iā€™ve said it before and Iā€™ll say it again, Hollywood should show some guts and go back to 1950s censorship standards.

Films I wish I could personally ban(astrix next to ones Iā€™ve seen):
  1. Irreversible
  2. Dogville*
  3. American Psycho*
  4. Texas Chainsaw Massacre*
  5. Kill Bill*(I only saw part one, it stopped me from ever seeing films like it again)
  6. Pulp Fiction*
  7. Reservoir Dogs*
  8. A Clockwork Orange*
  9. Saw(and any other Gory horror film for that matter)
  10. Wolf Creek
I would strongly advise anyone before they sat down and watched:
  1. Requiem For a Dream*
  2. Any Film by directorā€™s David Cronenberg and David Lynch(With the exception of ā€œThe Elephant Manā€ a fantastic film, and also possibly Cronenbergā€™s ā€œThe Flyā€ which is a fair morality tale)
  3. The Exorcist
  4. Rosemaryā€™s Baby and Macbeth, both by Roman Polanski, these films are worth watching only by adults and only by well educated ones at that.
  5. The Shining

Having been a child of rape myself, I 'd have to commend her for playing this part.
If this movie helps just one person to realize how horrible something like this could be, then it would be worth it.

I would say, before making judgements, please make sure to find out what the entire movie is about, what message it is protraying and if it is a true story or not before making judgements.

With all of the protections against child pornography these days, and her age, I seriously doubt that there is any reason to believe that she would be portrayed graphically in this scene.
Also, as long as Dakota is old enough (which she is) to know that this is a part she is playing and not something that is actually happening to her in real life, then I think that she could bring some creedence to the role since she is so well known.

Do not automatically assume that she is doing this role for money. She could be doing it because she wants to raise awareness or because the movie has something to offer to the victims of similar situations.

OK- Iā€™m done- feel free to flame awayā€¦

***Kampmeier doesnā€™t show the actual rape, ***

The article states that the film doesnā€™t show the actual rape.

I watched a movie called Carolina *B#stard *on HBO that showed the childhood of a woman who was raped as a child by her stepfather. I regretted watching the movie. I realize that such movies are meant to bring awareness to the issue of child sexual abuse. But I think that in the modern world we all understand how horrible and tragic such abuse is. I am not certain if we need to see or hear it.

For me the problem isnā€™t to do with the act portrayed on screen, the problem I find is with people who will inevitably actually go to the film simply because it has a graphic child rape sequence in it, even if they go with the intention of somehow learning a lesson from witnessing such an event.

I also donā€™t like the fact that she was advised to do the film by both her agent and her parents who gave her the script and has admitted it is because the script was ā€œOscar baitā€. That is my problem with the scene in question here. Rape should not be swept under the rug, but we also must be careful to protect our children from other morally bankrupt exploitations of them.

Her Mother was very excited about the scene as she thinks it may clinch an academy award for her daughter.
Huh? And I wonder what makes her (the mother) think this kind of movie will get any kind of reward?

More likely it will provide sexual arousal for those who are inclined to pediophilia. As mentioned before her primary ereason for doing the rape scene is a desire for an acadamy award-at least that is what her Mother is quoted as saying

I understand your feelings. I, simply donā€™t think that awareness needs to raised. We all agree that this is horrible and are shocked when such evil acts occur.

I would prefer to see a movie that addressā€™ ***how ***we can protect our kids from such atrocities.

I understand and respect your position, however I disagree. this movie may act to show us a particular situation in which the rape occurred that we may not have thought of before and in doing so will do exactly what you suggest. Make us aware of that situation and provoke us to think of ways to prevent that from happening again.

Since I do not know too much more about the movie other than the scandal, I am unable to comment if there may be other benefits. There are some movies that deal with this subject matter or ones like it and also prove as theraputic to the victims themselves.

itā€™s hard to explain in writting. But sometimes movies like these provide a means for victims to know that they are not alone and that there are people put in their lives to help them overcome such things, and even sometimes portray faith as a help.
I canā€™t say for sure what this movie is totally about but I think that we should wait to seeā€¦
If it is not something that you personally want to go see, then donā€™t go see it.

As for those who say that graphic representations will only provoke pedophiles to see the movie, my response is simply this. It has already been determined that nothing is shown graphically, therefore there would be nothing to see.
Pedophiles are no more likely to go see this movie than they are to go see a childrenā€™s movie. In fact they would be more likely to see a childrenā€™s movie, not only for the children portayed in the movie but for the children watching the movie.

It is important to remember that with pedophiles, it is not necessary for there to be graphic content. I know all to well that they are just as happy watching children get off the school bus.

Now I am confused about how graphic the scene will be. The first post linked to an article that seemed to say that the rape scene would not be shown. I found another article that says something different.

***The screenplay calls for Fanningā€™s character to be raped in one explicit scene and to appear naked or clad only in ā€œunderpantsā€ in several other horrifying moments. ***

There seems to be more confusion than anything else regarding this movie. I think the first thing to do is find out exactly what will be portrayed and what the contex of the scene would be in relationship to the movie.

BTW- I canā€™t get to that link.
