There seems to be more confusion than anything else regarding this movie. I think the first thing to do is find out exactly what will be portrayed and what the contex of the scene would be in relationship to the movie.

BTW- I can’t get to that link.
I’m sorry about the link. Being a computer illiterate, I have no idea how to fix the problem. 😦 Maybe someone else will kindly link there for us.

The article is from The Daily Mail, if anyone cares to find it.

Found it!

It says in the first article that it won’t be shown in graphic detail. I also heard that some group for victims of rape have praised the movie for bringing to light this problem. If they do the scene tastefully then I don’t see any problem. Like someone said if it helps even one person then more good comes out of it than bad. Dakota Fanning is a smart girl and I don’t think she’d be doing a film just for the money.

Do I need a movie be aware that rape is a terrible thing? Do I need a movie to know that child exploitation is a terible thing? Do I need movies to define my moral standards? I think that making those movies at the expense of a child is just garbage. That is the consequence of the trash TV that we (most of us) watch daily. People want a stonger fix while feeling morally justified.

Maybe you don’t need to be reminded, but many people in this country do. Theres something wrong in a country when judges dismiss child rape cases, which is something you hear on the news all the time.

What if it causes even one pediophile to become sexually aroused and he then seeks out a young girl to rape?

What if it causes the opposite effect and forces the pediphile to see how horribly it affects the child or in the worst case scenario, causes him/her to real;ize the consequeses of their actions and they don’t seek another child out?

Like I said before, if the scene is not graphic, there is nothing to see. The pediphile is more likely to go to a children’s movie than to a movie about rape.

About a year or two ago I read an article in The Enquirer (yes the Enquirer) and it was mentioning the filming process on War of the Worlds. According to the article, Tom Cruise was constantly trying to get Dakota Fanning into Scientology. I distinctly remember, in big bold letters, that Dakota Fanning’s parents told Tom and his crew in no uncertain terms that they were DEVOUT SOUTHERN BAPTISTS and appreciated him respecting their religion by not trying to convert them.

Makes you wonder whatever happend to all that morality?

I remember when I was twelve… I was very self-conscious about my body and wouldn’t get naked in front of anyone, let alone act out a rape scene…

Dakota may be a smart child, but she is still a child and she would feel pressured by her mother and her agent to do what they want. And by her fame, of course.

By the way, it seems that her mother and her agent are positive that this movie is the path to the Oscar… hence their reason for letting her do this movie.

If it doesn’t show anything like the original article said then whats the big deal. She’s trying to do a movie with a deeper message the her other stuff.

So who is more likely to be attracted into seeing this film; a pedophile seeking thrills or a pedophile seeking to reform.

The article above states that she perfomed the scene fully nude. Even if this did not make it on film, the makers of the film would go to prison in Texas for having her nude are anytime in the presence of adults.

I have not seen it, but as far as I know it’s in graphic detail.

There ought to be laws against the graphic portrayal of such things. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Hollywood should show some guts and go back to 1950s censorship standards.

Films I wish I could personally ban(astrix next to ones I’ve seen):
  1. Irreversible
  2. Dogville*
  3. American Psycho*
  4. Texas Chainsaw Massacre*
  5. Kill Bill*(I only saw part one, it stopped me from ever seeing films like it again)
  6. Pulp Fiction*
  7. Reservoir Dogs*
  8. A Clockwork Orange*
  9. Saw(and any other Gory horror film for that matter)
  10. Wolf Creek
I would strongly advise anyone before they sat down and watched:
  1. Requiem For a Dream*
  2. Any Film by director’s David Cronenberg and David Lynch(With the exception of “The Elephant Man” a fantastic film, and also possibly Cronenberg’s “The Fly” which is a fair morality tale)
  3. The Exorcist
  4. Rosemary’s Baby and Macbeth, both by Roman Polanski, these films are worth watching only by adults and only by well educated ones at that.
  5. The Shining
If you want these fims banned might I ask why you watched them? And don’t tell me you didn’t know. You watched several Quentin Tarentino films on that list. After the first one how coud you expect the next one to be different and after the second how could you still expect the next one to be different. You want to ban horror movies but it sure seems like you want to watch them. Oh, and I would recommend seeing part II of Kill Bill. It is not gory and graphic like the first one for the most part and it involves the story. In fact you can actually completely skip the first one if you want and still get the story.

has anyone seen the scene?
does anyone know what context it is in?
does anyone know if it’s shown in graphic detail or suggested by direction only?

those questions would matter in the reason for the scene’s existence.
From the story:
Kampmeier doesn’t show the actual rape, but it’s quite clear, from sources who’ve seen the film, that as scripted and directed, the scenes in question are going to cause as big if not bigger uproar than when Brooke Shields played a pre-pubescent prostitute in Louis Malle’s classic “Atlantic City.”

Seen them in the past. Now I want them banned. Wish I hadn’t seen them.

I would find this disturbing on a personal level, as my daughter is the double of Dakota Fanning.

I’m not sure what you mean by this:

She is the actual body double for Dakota Fanning
or
She looks remarkable like her

Either way, I could see how this would upset you on a personal level, however there is no reason for you to see the movie if you know that it will upset you.

I think what is most concerning about this, to me, is that they are going to be showing a 12 year old naked on the big screen. I can’t believe her mom would be ok with that. It seems horribly exploitive to me.

I can understand this view. My daughter slightly resembles Dakota Fanning also. She has the same type body build, the same color hair, the same wavy hair and a similar facial shape.

A part of me is frightened that some very sick person would watch the film and then try and find similar looking young girls to abuse. Maybe this is unlikely, but it is hard not to worry.😦

By the way, I watched Hannity and Colmes last night hoping that the producers of this movie would come on the show and speak about this. Although the producers issued a statement criticizing Hannity for discussing this, they wouldn’t come on the show or release snippets of the movie. I would have loved to have heard their side of this story.
