As a Catholic, I would recommend SoulCore or Pietra Fitness instead of “Yoga”

Also, apparently doing Yoga is offensive to Hindus…

Finally, Catholics have been saying for a long time that Yoga is spiritually bad for us.

I was going to suggest Pietra Fitness and Soul Core. I have the dvd set of Pietra but have never opened it. Silly me, I thought just buying it would do the trick, but I’m beginning to understand I have to actually view the dvd and follow along. 🧘😅

You can watch the Stations of the Cross SoulCore video for free, here on Vimeo

Catholicism is literally about reaching a higher state of consciousnes…

Funny, Pietra looks EXACTLY like yoga.
Which is why I fail to understand why people object to switching to SoulCore and/or Pietra.

They both encompass the stretching / exercise that the people are looking for, while eliminating the problematic parts (including problematic stretches in addition to the problematic spiritual part)

Don’t write us off so easily! For every yoga naysayer, like the Women of Grace program on EWTN, there are committed Catholics who see and use aspects of yoga as a means of conditioning both body and soul. I’m thinking of priests such as Fr. Thomas Ryan, C.S.P., Fr. Jean-Marie Dechanet, O.S.B., and Fr. Anthony Randazzo. The Church is big enough to include all of us!

I’m sorry, but I have to ask…

As a Catholic, why won’t you consider using SoulCore or Pietra Fitness instead of “Yoga”? These are both Church approved.

Find a Catholic fitness person and help get them trained to run a class or at least use the videos. There’s no reason why every parish with a gym or parish hall can’t offer SoulCore and/or Pietra Fitness (esp if just watching and stretching with the videos together as a group)

Here is a clip of Pietra Fitness:

Here are some clips of SoulCore: https://vimeo.com/soulcore

As a Catholic, why is your faith threatened by people who do Yoga ?

I have no interest in learning some other system than what I do now.

Gilad Body Sculpting. Gillard was the physical trainer for the Israeli Army

Zone Yoga, learned it years ago and bought the Power Yoga video and have done it over for over 25 years now.

Of course I also do Centering Prayer and I’m a professed Discalced Carmelite, Secular.

My friend teaches “yoga”. Her typical class is held at some rock club with a bar and features music by the likes of Iggy Pop and David Bowie. I’m pretty sure nobody is worshipping anything in that environment.

My faith is not “threatened” by people who do Yoga. But I do fear for the souls of nominal Catholics who do yoga. When we have a large number of priests who are exorcists publicly warning against all forms of Yoga, I take notice.

My question is simply an honest one. Because, if more devout Catholics would try Soul Core and/or Pietra Fitness; then the number of classes would grow around the country, giving nominal Catholics a Catholic option vs. Yoga.

I appreciate that you care enough to make these recommendations. God bless you too! As I say, I approach the meager stretching and yoga-type exercises I do based on committed Catholic teachers like the ones I mentioned above.

I’ve seen no more than two priest warning about Yoga.

However, it’s not Yoga that leads them to demonic possession, but themselves who have problems even if they took up Catholicism.

Catholic priests, have become demonically possessed, Using their logic, Catholicism should be avoided.

Thank you for this level headed and not insane response. Bless you and your patience in dealing with so much of the weird views that are shared on this forum.

I fail to see how stretches can be problematic – unless you’re one of those who claim we can “accidentally” worship demons, in which case no one is safe.
If you’re doing the physical aspect of yoga, there is no reason to “change.” You can call it Pietra, you can call it SoulCore, you can call it George – yoga is yoga.

Sorry, but that blog post is just weird. Yoga, at least in the way it is practiced in most places in the US, is exercise, period. I myself don’t do it, but that’s because I don’t enjoy that form of exercise, not because I’m afraid some demon is going to jump my bones.

My friend the yoga teacher is Jewish and a wonderful person, much loved by her husband and friends, and has had nothing but positive effects on people all around her that I can see.

Look, I’m not the one saying this stuff, I’m just repeating it. Exorcists are the ones saying it.

You either believe exorcists or you don’t. My pastor has told us a number of scary things that he’s witnessed and what he’s been told by the exorcist(s) he knows - so I’m not going to mess around.

Personally, if an exorcist says that specific stretches open you up to the demonic, I’m going to play it safe and follow what he says.

Also: in regards to SoulCore and Pietra, they were both instructed on which stretching positions are problematic for Catholics and they made sure to remove them (I know SoulCore first had an improper stretch before their videos were made)

So SoulCore and Pietra have all the benefits of secular yoga, plus the Spiritual benefits of Catholic Prayer, plus the Spiritual benefits of removing the religious positions that Exorcists find problematic and which some Hindi find offensive

@Tis_Bearself - this post answers yours too

God Bless
