I’m 72 years old and lived through the era of the traditional mass, which I attended daily
in Catholic school from grade 1 through high school.
Since you have given a subjective view of your Catholic life, I feel that it’s OK. if I give my own. I am 68 years old & I, too, lived during the time that the Church was flourishing like never before. I started parochial school in the school year…1945-1946. I, too, went to daily Mass though it wasn’t required. We could arrive at the school at 8AM & attend Mass…or at 9AM. when it was over. Since the ones attending Mass & Communion had fasted for 12 hrs., we were given Milk & a Danish or doughnut in the cafeteria after Mass.
Truthfully, knowledge is not the answer, for despite memorization which was thoroughly ingrained in my head, my heart never grasped the essence of the faith - devotion to Jesus Christ!
Form. It will not become a grass-roots supplantation by traditionalists or certain clerics, QUOTE]
The TLM was granted special indult, to keep the small minority of
dissidents from leaving the church. The Pope shepherded them wisely by permitting the old rite to be continued, rather than
see them leave or embrace schism. Many years later (2007) Pope Benedict granted wider permission for celebration by Motu Proprio. I presume the readers are fully informed about this.
I find the above to be both Judgmental &, sorry to say, ignorant. Both Pope John Paul II & Pope Benedict were & are intent on preserving the Mass that we have celebrated for
20 CENTURIES & both have voiced disappointment over the changes made by the Second Vatican Council.
- I made final promises as a Secular Carmelite back in 1984, and as part of our rule, I pray the Liturgy of the Hours daily and attend daily mass.
I’m curious, is this the “order” you belong to:
helpfellowship.org/secular_carmelite_info.htm
If so, this appears on the home page of that order…
“Secular Carmelites come from all walks of life. They are business owners, public servants, clerical staff, professionals, homemakers, retirees, students, men and women, young and old, married and single. Each one trying to respond to God’s call to “meditate on the Lord’s law, day and night” while working, raising families, etc.”
** "Our Lord Jesus Christ is not the center of these postings, **
but rather, the extraneous trappings that attempt to pull one away from the Church, create many doubts and instill a horrible division pitting Catholics against one another, contrary to the unity Jesus desires.
So now, YOU interpret the mind of Christ. I will pray for you.
