Oh I know you don’t, Jon. I’m just saying my peace 😛 I’m a bit scatter-brained right now anyway. My grandmother had another stroke two days ago. She is now totally unable to wake up, is laboring HARD to breathe, cannot eat or drink, and is dying fast. We expect her to pass on Christmas Eve or Christmas. Not good times around here. 😦

I am not an expert on this, I just heard that it was not really all that important. so that is why I was asking how this example was like taking dynamically opposing interpretations and trying to figure out who is correct.

Hi Wm,
It is not all that important to those of us in the western Church. My understanding is it is a greater issue for those in the east.

Be that as it may, pick an issue between Rome and the EOC that has dynamically opposing interpretations.

I was simply pointing out that disagreements about the faith are not exclusively protestant, nor are they exclusive to sola scriptura.

Hi Jon Merry Christmas. Fair enough, but from my limited knowledge of East and West I had thought that the separation is more about territorial and hierarchy issues in addition to traditional (little “t”) points of view. That there is very little with regards to matters of faith and the truths Christ left us with. But then again I am probably pretty ignorant when it comes to all the issues separating East and West.

I think there is not much difference the way the EO and the RC see the Filioque. The holy spirit comes from both no matter which way it is worded. It is splitting hairs and a fine line in what is what. With the Pope he still can be first among equals. All 5 patriarchs should come together and have a vote on theology. Then the Pope can still be Pope to Establish theology.
