As to saying he doesn’t want to be VP…oh PUH-LEASE. They all say that. Tell me that if the party came to him and said “We need you, we want you, you are the best man for the job” that he’d say no. They have to play coy and pretend not to be angling for the VP spot but trust me, he’ll take it.

I was thinking that about Rubio too, I guess we will have to wait and see. Romney and Gingrich both have pros and some concerns about both.
 
I find it darkly humorous that the Republican intelligencia have declared that the wave of “not Romney” is over and that there are no more conservative alternatives to be had. They are so desperate to bury all mention of Rick Santorum I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. Sometimes I think they are just trying to time it so Sen. Santorum comes up on the radar in time to hobble Gingrich but too late to actually threaten Romney.

Goodness knows Sen. Santorum is more conservative on the economic and social issues than either Romney or Gingrich and he’s no slouch on national defense issues. He doesn’t get ahead of himself and commit inexperienced gaffes like Michele Bachmann and Herman Cain did. He doesn’t stagger around debates like a pole-axed cow either (sorry, Gov. Perry). He doesn’t spoiled the deal with inexplicable tin-foil-hat theories about the Council on Foreign Relations, NWO conspiracy theories, and nonsensical platitudes about nuclear Iran either.

Being able to force Obama to over-spend to keep an otherwise reliable 20 electoral votes in P.A. is another big plus. Every dollar spent there is one kept out of Florida, Ohio, Virginia, North Carolina, etc.

You might not care, but if that happens, I am seriously contemplating expatriating to South America. I know I know I know, “if that’s what you believe, then don’t let the door hit ya on the way out”. To which my reply is, “You can have this God-forsaken nanny state piece of **** and shove it.” I am not even sure why I served in its military for more than half of my adult life.
 
I’d take either Gingrich or Romney, but I don’t like Paul. He’s a total loose cannon, about in the same category as Obama, only he’s a flat-out libertarian instead of a flat-out socialist like Obama. [IMHO, they both are a little nuts. Unfortunately, politics and show-business tends to draw people who don’t have to look normal every morning to their colleagues.]

I just hope the Republicans don’t shoot themselves in the foot like they did last time. Last time, they nominated someone who just plain couldn’t win. Period. Stupid. [Do I like John Cain as a person? Yes. I have an enormous amount of respect for him. But he’s not presidential material, not now and not 4 years ago.]

The Republicans spend more time campaigning against each other than they do campaigning against the Democrats. Also stupid. Maybe fatally stupid. Certainly looks idiotic in public. And weak.

I also hope that if Paul doesn’t get the nomination (which I don’t think he will), that he won’t spoil the whole mess by running as a third candidate. It’s looking increasingly likely that’s going to happen. And the Democrats, if they’re nothing else, are wise in holding together what they have for Obama and not running an independent or trying to replace Obama. Yes, he’s a miserable total failure, but they know that with him, if they can keep him in office, they’re still in power. I hate the Democratic party, but you have to give it to them for this bit of single-mindedness and sense, even if they’re wrong regarding just about everything else.

I think Gingrich and Romney are both sane, rational and intelligent enough to manage the job. I don’t think the world will end or people will suffer world-changing disasters under either of them. I hope I’m right. And I hope one of them gets the nomination and takes it to the White House. We have GOT to get Obama out of that office.

Santorum doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in hell. He’s a niche candidate, the Catholic ethnic candidate. The country’s only about 1/4 Catholic and even if half of those are Republicans which I doubt, he loses. The rest of the country doesn’t “get” Santorum; to them he looks like he has eyes on the side of his head or something.

Dude I understand why you don’t like President Obama but I think you’re over reacting to it. I mean so what if he gets reelected? “O’well to bad guess we’ll try next time.”
There is no reason to move to South America!

If you think you have it bad with President Obama you should try the brutal dictators in Africa and the Shahs over in the Middle East. Or the Chinese supremacy Government who won’t even allow their people to have kids!

If we don’t get Obama out of the White House, it will be the end of the US as we know it. He’s changing as much of the infrastructure as he can get his hands on. And as far as foreign policy goes, the situation has been a total crapshoot for at least two years now. No telling what happens next. He’s totally incompetent and not quite sane.

It’s not even just Obama, it’s the progressive Republicans. Obama’s got us on the elevator, when they get in power they just take us to the stairs. Both of them are going the same direction though.

He also has a rather severe demeanor. I have watched the debates and if you were to simply LISTEN to Mr Santorum, you’d be impressed with his knowledge, his articulate delivery and his steadfast moral character. But sadly during the debates he tends to look peeved and not very pleasant.

I have a lot of experience listening to him as a guest host on Bill Bennett. I think his heart is huge, particularly with respect to the unborn or physically challenged persons. But he comes off as a stern schoolmaster rather than warm and fuzzy.

In my political science classes, I’ve seen many statistics that the more ‘likeable’ candidate has won despite other flaws. Santorum just isn’t very likeable and thus he doesn’t engender the support of a Herman Cain or frankly a pre-election Barack Obama who seemed like an earnest, positive, energetic idea guy versus ‘grumpy old man’ John McCain.

That’s kind of remarkable considering his Senate elections in Pennsylvania certainly weren’t those of a “niche” or “ethnic catholic” candidacy.

It wasn’t too long again the “no chance” meme was being thrown out there against Newt Gingrich, Herman Cain, and Michele Bachmann. Each had their chances. Rep. Bachmann and Mr. Cain both blew their chances with bad campaigns.

Jon Huntsman and Ron Paul have no chance in this election. Ron Paul’s foreign policy is out-of-bounds and Jon Huntsman was part of the Obama Administration. Even if there was a brokered convention nobody is going to nominate Ron Paul for the presidency.

When you start looking for a compromise between “electable” (resistant to personal humiliation and demonization by the left-wing cranks in the popular media), “reliable” (doing something other than taking yet-another half-way step to communism and the culture of death), and “vocal” (speaks to the issues, takes the fight to them) you aren’t left with a whole lot of options.

Newt is very good at the vocal part and is moderately reliable on the 3-legged stool, but his “baggage” is oppressive.

Mitt has a very electable image but lacks the accomplishments that mark him as a reliable conservative and kills any sort of voice he might have by hiding behind non-committed, poll-driven, plastic language. Frankly, he reminds me of 2008 McCain and 1996 Dole - long on character, “maverick”-or-“moderate” on policy, no fire in the belly campaigning, a perfect recipe for losing the general election by about 5% thanks in large part by icing your own base.

Herman Cain was vocal on the economy, up-beat, and worked for some conservative causes. He proved to lack both voice and vision on most other issues and he couldn’t protect his electable image.

Rick Perry has electable public character and fair reliability on issues, but his public voice is terrible.

Michele Bachmann was modestly electable - no real baggage. While reliable on the issues, her inexperience left her prone to amateurish gaffes and negative over-reaches that made her look alternatively vicious or foolish…

Ron Paul has great personal credentials, a strong voice, and is rock-solid reliable on federalism and small government. He’s a federalist squish on the culture of life, but at least he opposes Roe v. Wade. Then you let him get himself worked up over foreign policy and he scares the daylights out of people.

Jon Huntsman is the typical Rockafeller / “reaching across the aisle” RINO technocrat that Democrats love to use as leverage against the GOP.

Sen. Santorum has the same clean-cut background as Mitt Romney - no big skeletons. He’s not as slick, but he also doesn’t come across as a plastic candidacy. He’s been awarded the Order of the Knights of Malta by the Holy See and he’s got a conservative voting record the length of your arm. He makes no apologies for being staunchly Pro-Life, pro-America, and anti-Big Government.

Frankly I can’t see any compelling reason to vote for Mitt Romney over Rick Santorum. The most pressing advantages Mitt seems to have are his bank roll and his name recognition. Rick Santorum even has Romney-caliber hair! Meanwhile if you’re more interested in seeing a conservative get the GOP nod than fighting the Illuminati or landing the most condescending zingers possible on Obama and his pet media I think Newt and Dr. Paul’s support would be better spend on Sen. Santorum as well.

In a time of crisis I’d rather have someone stern and principled them someone who smile the whole time and never tells anyone what they don’t want to hear. In some sense that’s what Newt Gingrich is riding on right now - eloquently telling Obama, Lefty Media, and Occupy Wall Street exactly where they can go and what they can do when they get there. The “aw shucks, don’t worry about it,” politicians have already ruined our education system and exploded our deficit.

Here’s hoping Rick Santorum finds his Churchill voice before the media machine completely buries him for not providing amusing enough copy. He’s at least one candidate we can count on to give us a good Supreme Court replacement for Justice Kennedy.

America will Fall?
America didn’t “fall” in the first 4 years Obama was president like they said when he got elected.
What makes you think it will fall the next?

Before I list anything, I would like to say the mentality he has fostered since he started to run for President, is one of the worst things he could have done to this country. Adding fuel to the fire of a society that’s already divisive, his election alone made it even more so.

As far as what he’s done…he’s blown through over 6 trillion dollars in debt, more than this country has spent since it’s inception. I don’t even think they know what they’ve spent that money on, partly because Joe Biden was in charge of some of it and I doubt he knows how to balance his own checkbook.

He’s a heavy progressive, the hard core liberals here can say what they want about him having to govern as a centrist. What he’s had to do and what he would love to do is two different things and they would not have been able to do it any better or worse depending on your pov.

I think that is a silly attack on Gingrich, after all Romney himself is a rich man.

He has all the properties of a personality disorder run amok. Don’t you ever watch this guy in action? He scolds everyone constantly and holds himself in nearly supernatural regard. Remember the Greek temple?? Remember threatening to “go it alone” on legislation?? (he’s not in the legislative branch!) Everything is about him from his point of view. The man is a walking test case for the DSM IV.

Obama has tried to change America from the get-go because he hates the way it is. This is the first president with this point of view EVER, which is a historic departure.

And BTW, he has spent more money than any other president, and as a nation, we have gotten nothing out of it but debt. Part of it has been fueled by his dreams of a redistribution of wealth scheme; part of it is politics to get re-elected; part of it is just his maniacal regard for his own ideas, no matter what it costs anyone else. We are now spending more money to pay interest than to provide benefits. This can’t go on.

Agree. To most people the combination of that and his moral views, which are openly Catholic, are a total turn-off. Remember only 1/4 of the country is Catholic, and loosely-speaking at that. More than half of them are not practicing Catholic by any definition that includes Sunday mass attendance. He can’t win on that. He has to make up his mind what he’s doing up there or get down and stop spending money for something that’s not going to happen.
