True. All you have to do is read the comments section of the newspaper any time black crime is reported.
I don’t get your point.

My post related to individuals and experts in the fields of Psychology, Counseling, Public Policy and Social Work who are concerned about the violence in some inner-city minority communities.

I was talking about media.

It depends on how folks want to discuss the issue if their comments are called racist. I, for example, am white and have been on coalitions of white folks, black folks and everything in-between and spoken extensively of crime in the minority community.

No prejudiced comments or racist stereotypes are made. We would actually talk about the real reasons and practical solutions.

It depends on how the subject is discussed. Some folks, not implying you, can’t discuss the issues facing minorities without making biting, thinly veiled racist, overt racist, or steriotypical commentary.

I meant I agreed with you on the racism of some folks. All you have to do is look at the comments section in newspapers. 😦

Ah, I got you.

And above when I typed “was” I meant “wasn’t”.

Crime and a culture of violence can be a problem in the inner-city. This dynamic of gangs and pseudo-gangs can exist in white areas and even in rural areas.

The reasons for youth violence are multi-faceted and relate to family life, socialization, empowerment, and even spirituality. Heck, there are other reasons but that stands out.

There are many ways to try to reduce violence. One of the most effective right now is to KEEP THE KIDS BUSY with responsible adults and older peers, even in lieu of family. They need to see that there options in life despite what they see around them in their neighborhood- that gangs or criminal involvement can bring power, and even a kind of “love”.

I hope it gets thrown out.

Not because MSNBC burnished the report, but because a lawsuit against a news station, whether you like them or not, will have an impact on freedom of speech.

Everyone who doesn’t like was is reported will sue, regardless of whether they think they can win or not, but just for the sake of harassing the news agency.

Journalism is supposed to report the facts. Facts=truth. When a purported journalism puts out slander that is not facts and has no place in journalism.

If you want to listen to a source that doesn’t give you the facts and creates false stories then that is your prerogative but I think most people don’t like being lied to.

How about for altering the tape? Is that freedom of speech?
Yeah it is and if not for freedom of speech for everyone, the deception would not have been discovered and those responsible dealt with.

However, the alternative of putting them out of business is that you’ll have their competitors going unchecked and free to deceive.

Peer pressure among competitors helps keep them honest.

And what about slandering a person? Is that alright with you? And you don’t think Zimmerman has been harassed since that? I don’t know what really happened and neither does anyone else on this forum. I think it is unwise to state one’s opinion as if it were fact until the facts are known. And how long do we let the MSM, whichever side it supports, misreport the facts in order to gain ground for their particular point of view.
No it isn’t good that a person was slandered and suffered as a consequence.

But it’s the price we pay for having freedom of speech on issues like this.

Remember, it doesn’t take just the government to stifle free speech, but lawyers, political organizations and can do just as well and in some cases it’s even worse.

Look how well political correctness has been working.

No one worships free speech as otherwise pranksters could go to movie theatres and yell fire or go to the airport and in panic stricken voice yell that there is a bomb for obvious reasons.

Media outlets wield ENORMOUS power and with that power comes responsibility. When you abuse that responsibility, then expect to suffer the consequences.

This is NOT about political correctness.

No, not simply because the boy was black, but because he was behaving oddly, which is why Zimmerman called the police in the first place. This was a racially mixed neighborhood; he wouldn’t have called for every young black man he saw or he’d have been on the phone all the time!*

There had been several burglaries in the neighborhood over the previous year. One occurred while the occupant was in her home with her small child, and Zimmerman helped her out afterwards. He told her to go to his wife if she felt nervous.

And a couple of years before, Zimmerman had spent hours informing people and working for an investigation of a case in which the white son of a police officer was not arrested after beating a black homeless man.
I don’t get it. How was he behaving oddly? The boy was simply talking on the phone while heading home.

Zimmerman claimed that Martin was “running” in the rain. That it wasn’t like someone exercising in the rain bla bla bla. According to Zimmerman, that wasn’t normal. (Although it was normal for him to follow Martin in the same rain.)

Then he later admitted that Martin wasn’t actually running.

Hmmm, so how then was he suspicious?

Zimmerman and his wife tutored disadvanted children, some of whom were black. It is an unfortunate fact that a disproportionate number of crimes are commited by black youths. Black on black crime is appalling. Until we can openly address this issue without being called racist, the problem will continue.
Of course, we can discuss the issue openly. Right, so if in certain areas or in a certain area, some people belonging to a particular racial group are notorious of doing something wrong, then what? I mean, what’s the conclusion then?
Have you ever heard of the “no snitch” rule in black communities?
