Democrats now critical of Rice's Benghazi explanation, amid more damaging evidence

Hillary Clinton is talking a lot of focus of questioning because she was head of the state department and she went out and blamed the anti Islam video when there were multiple sources saying that it was a terror attack and an Al Qaeda linked group were responsible. When there is a scandal in a department isn’t it usually the head of that department that is questioned the most, because as a Head in the department they had the most responsibility?

Further in her testimony she claimed “I take responsibility” but basically it was for shutting the barn door after the horse left. She didn’t take responsibility for the lapses in security “I didn’t get those requests!” She didn’t take responsibility the night of the attack. Greg Hicks said after he advised evacuation and she agreed to the plan (as if you evacuate for a protest?) she never called back that night to see if it were implemented and what happened. When they finally got her to the hearing, her disgraceful canned “What difference does it make?” sounded far more like a dodge than “the buck stops here.”

Remember when Edward Kennedy drove off the pier with at Chapquiddick and allowed Mary Jane Kopechne to drown? Perhaps the lapse in judgment would have been forgiven, but the American people (other than those in Massachusetts who seem to be deranged when it comes to their elections) don’t like leaving people to die while you contact spinmeisters and try to work on a good excuse.

Abyssinia, I’m not denying that Hillary Clinton should be questioned, nor that Obama should be questioned. My comment is in response to ishii’s comment, which appeared to me as mainly a political, not policy, justification for blaming Hillary so that she would be less strong as a political candidate in the 2016 presidential election. Please re-read ishii’s comment to understand the context of my own.

The contect is the democrats screwed up and got several people killed now they will pay a price.

The other thing, (also in response to meltzerboy) is that this cover up may well have influenced the election. Obama’s one bragging right was the death of Osama and at the DNC claimed AlQaeda is on the run…yeah running to its next bombing.

Were questions about judgment regarding our operation in Libya, the clear evidence that AlQaeda was still effective, then Obama’s one major accomplishment would be called to question. Further the American people WANT to trust their leaders although frankly you wonder why they have any hope. The reality that this was a foreign policy disaster, that Americans were killed while POTUS ate dinner and slept through the night, would not auger well for his re-election.

I remember Watergate and does anyone think if the voters had known on Election Day what they knew after the investigation and hearings, that Nixon would have been re-elected? He left office in disgrace for what in comparison was a schoolyard prank.

Too much meddling around in foreign affairs.

Life insurance companies won’t cover Americans travelling in certain countries. Why should the government?

Meltzerboy, democrats/Obama /Hillary lies and failures will be a legitimate campaign issue. It’s a no brainer that the GOP would focus on this leading up to the next election.

Um…these guys weren’t in Bengazi site seeing. They were working. For the government who was charged with protecting them.

Robert Gates, former Sec of Def of Bush and Obama, had this to say: " “Sending in special forces or a small group of people to try and provide help, based on everything I have read, people really didn’t know what was going on in Benghazi contemporaneously. And to send some small number of special forces or other troops in without knowing what the environment is, without knowing what the threat is, without having any intelligence in terms of what is actually going on on the ground, I think, would have been very dangerous. And personally, I would not have approved that because we just don’t – it’s sort of a cartoonish impression of military capabilities and military forces. The one thing that our forces are noted for is planning and preparation before we send people in harm’s way. And there just wasn’t time to do that.”

Ambassador Pickering’s (and those of Kelly Ayotte, Dick Durbin, and Bob Gates) comments to CBS are very pertinent as well:

Kinda sad that a former SECDEF has such a low opinion of the military. Help was on the way-they were told to stand down.
