“Creator” should work then.

I don’t think there was a need to remove it…it could have been made optional for those who don’t believe in the Christian God…or in any god…or those Christians who don’t want to swear any type of oath to just opt out of saying it

The National Dems? How about we behave like Christians and recognize that our religious views should exhibit respect towards all people and their personal right to choose what and what not to believe. Ironically, the News source of this article said this yesterday - based on what they called an exclusive copy of the draft (unauthenticated copy no less). And today the same News media source said it is not going to happen. Something smells fishy in more ways than one. The HOUSE sets it’s rules every two years so who cares what they recite in their chamber - it’s like me claiming I was told that I can no longer say Merry Christmas! So silly!!!

“And in their mouth there was found no lie; for they are without spot before the throne of God.”
Revelation 14: 5

we are called to show people the error of their ways and to lead them to Jesus and salvation. the policies of the Democrats, same-sex marriage, abortion, contraception, etc, must be pointed out as contrary to God’s law. the tables have to be over-turned so-to-speak. we have an obligation to help people find the narrow path! Jesus called us to go and make believers.

have we all forgotten that the declaration of independence referenced the creator.
Which is an indication that even in a democracy there can be errors of judgement. Matter of fact, Jefferson warned of what he called “the tyranny of democracy”, not that he was against democracy but that even the masses and politicians may do things wrong, such as in a case of a “lynch-mob mentality”.

In more recent times, the SCOTUS has been fairly consistent in their decisions that atheists and agnostics have rights as well, and also that it’s not right & proper for government to take sides on which of these options is legally right.

I think people use the word God in so many situations that using it in an oath for many would be meaningless.

How many people say “Oh My God” when they are shocked or pleased? How many people type (or say) OMG and do not mean Oh My Gosh or Oh My Goodness? How many of us on CAF are just as unaware of saying Oh My God instead of Oh My Gosh?

But we are not to use the government to do so. If you prefer to live in a theocracy, you have every right to try to institute one. But we do not live in one now, not in the U.S.

My objection is to the programs being pushed by the national democratic conference. We as religious people have an obligation to fight to stop any new legislation and overturn any existing legislation that is anti-God. Remember the first amendment also protects the free exercise of religion. We are to use the government to do so. We need to vote so the Democrats never get enough votes to pass these anti-God programs. The latest Democratic program in the news is abortion until the moment just before birth. Is this what people voting Democrat really want?

This thread isn’t about legislation. It’s about the wording of an oath that may be taken by people of many religions, and if no religion.

Yes, but the declaration is only one document and it states creator.

At the time of the writing, the creator was God. The founders may not have all been Christian and some were non-religious but most were Deist and the language was included. The founders obviously didn’t want a government run by a single religion but they also didn’t seem to mind the mentioning of God.

The majority is being hijacked by the minority.

And what about separation of religion and state? That’s an important principle in our country’s history, too.

Without God an oath has no meaning. These people demonstrate their ignorance of what an oath actually is. (Good Read: “Swear to God” by Scott Hahn)

That’s been exactly my point. Where did I say otherwise?

The person is asking for help. Who do you expect help from in difficult times, Oprah? An oath is what it is. The meaning and historical roots of an oath are what they are. The Latin word for oath is Sacramentum, where we get the word Sacraments.

Are you an atheist?

Polls show that most Democrats believe in God, including politicians
The last election showed us how good polls are.

Besides, when do political leaders do what they promise to do? The people may believe, but the politicians pass laws contary to God’s word.

Trump, as bad as his tweets are, is at least trying to keep his promises
