I voted before I read your post. I’m not a Democrat so I messed up your poll already. I’m sorry. I would be very surprised if any Democrat chose the first option.

For those of us who are Catholics, abortion is not a “view” but rather a mortal sin. I’m a Catholic first and and a Democrat somewhere after that.

I am a republic and voted before i read the 1St thread sorry.

However While on the subject more and more democrats are embracing the pro life position at least on abortion.
I wonder is this because that read the polls and see America is more pro-life every year or is it a true conversion.

You know, the other five people so far who’ve voted without reading the first post might as well fess up… 😛

I didn’t vote as I’m not a member of any political party.

No Democrat is going to vote other than what we, in the majority here, think.

One, because they do not want the fight it would cause and two most Democrats rationalize their support of abortion by saying that they are not pro-abortion but are pro-choice.

That is that they are for the woman to have a choice. Some would say that they would rather that the woman choses not to abort but she should have that choice. They rationalize away their culpability in this act by saying that it was the woman’s choice and they had nothing to do with, but they fail to realize that by advocating for such a choice you are supporting what ever choice the individual makes.

I have been a democrat most of my life. I believe that abortion is murder, I believe that marriage is between one man and one woman, I believe in stem cell research as long as it is not done using embryonic stem cells. There are many democrats like me.

God bless

I didnt pose the question very well.

I am just trying to understand how a person justifies voting for a pro choice candidate who believes abortion is murder.

The purpose of the poll was to try to get an uderstanding of the thought process that allows this. My father in law, my aunts and uncles (all over 80 years old) are the same and are die hard democrats no matter what. (the democratic platform is very clear that they are pro choice)

If a person truly believes abortion is murder, how can someone vote for that candidate?

That is nice to hear. Just wish Dems like you could take the party back from the far left wing that has taken charge and is gaining by leaps and bounds. My sainted grandfather would turn over in his grave to see where his party has gone.

I agree…my parents and their parents were Democrats…the party sure has changed.

Hi Thekla,

I’m glad to hear you say that. From so many of your other posts, it’s easy to conclude you are a hard-core liberal, who is less than fond of conservatives.

I have to ask. As a certified Democrat, firmly against everything the Republican’s represent, how do you reconcile the fact that the Democrats universally support every woman’s right to abortion? As a ‘good’ Catholic, when you pull that lever, voting for a Democrat who you KNOW will do everything in their power to protect and expand abortions, how do you feel?

I am a Democrat, and I voted that it is not murder.
For you, an agnostic, what is murder? When does life begin and at what point does a human life become worthy of ‘rights’, from an agnostic point of view?

Let me ask you this way. If your wife or sister were pregnant, and I purposefully and with malice, caused the death of of their unborn child, would you believe I shouldn’t be convicted of murder?

There are alot of us that are trying to reform from the inside. It has to start somewhere.
