Since I am a registered independent, I can’t vote.
But I do agree with Thekla’s statement though. Very well said.

Then how you do justify labeling yourself a Democrat when the Democrat party has the Pro-Choice agenda as a part of their party platform?The Church says that I may not vote for candidates because of their support for abortion and I don’t. Nor do I categorize Catholics into “good” or “bad.”
What I wrote may have been unclear. The Church says that we can vote for candidates who support abortion but that we cannot vote for them because they support abortion. I was a registered Independent for 10 years, but as someone here pointed out, Independents carry no voice with politicians. So last year I switched.Thekla,
Can I ask you a question?
You said;

I do realize there are pro-life democrats but for myself, I can not align with a party that stands against that officially.
Party affiliation does not stop you from voting for others.
I think being independent or no party as a party affiliation would be better than linking my name to a pro-choice group in anyway as best.
Hmmm, I have not see where they Church has said that we my support candidates who are pro-abortion but I have seen people say that the Church says this.What I wrote may have been unclear. I hope I’ve cleared up your question and yes, I vote for candidates who support abortion but not because of their support for abortion. As for abortion, my “stance” is that it’s a mortal sin.Thank you for answering though but with this answer your last statement needs to be modified, I think, to say that you do vote for pro-abortion candidates but not because of their support for abortion. For me, that weakens, or totally eliminates your pro-life stance (if you have one), as you put people in office who undermine it. Hence my first post to this thread about Catholic Democrats playing the rationalization game.
Part of what happened in '94 was the corruption in the Dem Party. I’m sure you remember the post office, and the House bank, and the individual Dems who were involved in scandals. What goes around comes around. But, and someone has already mentioned this, the GOP would have been scalded if they had removed or dissed Foley–political correctness, you know. But I don’t think there was any one thing that sunk the GOP last year. It was different things for different people. I just hope the electorate got what they wanted.This may not be part of the thread but here goes
One thing I have to admire about the Democrats and that is:
The way they are able to act like winners even when they were in the minority in Congress. They never accepted defeat even though they were beaten up in 1994. The Republicans on the other hand didnt quite know how to act like winners when they were the winners. They didnt feel very comfortable in that role and it really showed itself in the last few years. I personally feel that the GOP feels more comfortable in the spoiler seat ie the minority and making trouble for the majority the Dems.
Just a thought, but the GOP got it’s come-upens this past November and rightly so. They are unable to get away with being corrupt. Of course it helps to have the media on your side.
Sorry, I’m not a Democrat and I voted.Please vote only if you are a Democrat.
The point I was trying but may not have emphasised enough was that no matter what happens to the Democrats they still are in the mood to fight it out regardless if they win or not. The GOP on the other hand like to give the impression that they are more gentlemenly in their approach to trying to get things done. As you can now see on the TV the Dems have chosen to play the litigation game for the next two years. That is, dragging Republicans into one investigation to another and in this way it ties up the administrations hands on doing anything in the near future. It puts the GOP smack dab on the defensive. I dont see any Republicans coming out swinging in their own defense. I do see them sitting meekly by and dodging the arrows that are being sent their way. The Dems said that they would be doing this prior to last years elections and darned if they didnt carry it out.Part of what happened in '94 was the corruption in the Dem Party.
