If, Trump called Nazis or the Cheka, the NKVD or the Red Guards animals would the Democrats defend them?

Then please stop judging RidgeRunner and myself. I
What are you talking about?
I avoid, pretty assiduously, reading hearts and minds.
I am interested in, andseek accountability of, facts and and cogency of argument.
I am not sure what judgements you think that I have made on any of the people that you have mentioned.

You falsely accused me of saying that Jesus would allow name calling.
You said:
ANybody else including Jesus Christ can get away with this behaviour but not some Knuckle head President.
A fair reading of you argument is that name-calling is something that one ought to be able to get away with this behavior. Throughout this thread the behavior that has been discussed is calling these people in this gang animals. The idea that you were indicating that calling someone an animal ought be gotten away with is reasonable conclusion from what you wrote in this thread; it is not an accusation.

I am happy to accept your further information that by “this behavior” you meant the use of the rhetorical device of hyperbolic symbolism (even though that may be just a fancy term for name-calling). Given that acceptance, I think apologize for misunderstanding your post. But it is absurd to say that I may a false accusation against you, given that made no accusation against you.

Road-Worrier:
I have to admit, the spectacle of Trump opponents losing their minds over Trump calling murdering, drug dealers and human traffickers “animals” is pretty epic. It’s also a good illustration of how Trump is literally (not figuratively) driving his opponents stark raving mad. Does anybody really think the path to the “Blue Wave” is going to run through standing up for MS-13 gang members?
I agree with this, and can only marvel at the willingness of opponents to jump on the anti-Trump meme of the day, regardless of how ludicrous it is. Really? People are actually indignant that Trump referred to MS-13 members as animals? I can’t wait to see the political commercials that come out of this one.
It sounded like he was referring to undocumented immigrants as animals which I hope we can agree would be a bad thing if true. I hope that was not the case.

The transcripts are here:

It is not entirely clear. The conversation goes back and forth between M-13 and others. The answer includes a discussion of record number of deportations presumably includes more that M-13.

There is reason to be suspicious that the gangs are invoked as necessary:

That’s the problem A whole thread is slamming Trump for something he actually didn’t say. And those who are trying to correct the record are being lectured on their Christianity.

In post #70, I noted that Christ is authorized to judge; we are not.
His calling out is authorized and just; ours is not authorized.
This is not quite accurate. What we are forbidden to judge are those things which we cannot know, like a person’s motivation for what he does. We are assuredly not forbidden to judge what a person does, however, else we could never call any act immoral. I don’t think most people have any problem denouncing the acts of MS-13 members.

Yes. As i already noted: love the sinner, hate the sin.

Where do you get the idea that he is being slammed for something he didn’t say?
Did you read the transcripts?
I read the transcript, and it is an absurdity to suggest that his “animals” reference was to all illegals. The entire conference was about the difficulty police in California are having working with ICE in order to deport criminals. That was the context of the comment. What an astonishing display of faux-outrage. It doesn’t surprise me when the media creates an issue like this, but I am amazed at how readily people will latch on to something so unreasonable.

Instead, what Christ demands from us is perfect love.
We judge all the time! Some of us are judges! Some of us are on juries. We judge.

If you are involved with bad companions, we judge and counsel you to amend your life.

And if someone invades our country and then uses a machete to chop up innocent people … we will definitely judge.

And Trump HAS THE AUTHORITY TO JUDGE!

The problem is that the line is always blurry.

The story in Slate give as great example of the problem of this blurriness. Trump’s own answer involving animals went on to cite record numbers of deportations. But the data show that the numbers of criminal deportations has risen little in this administration: the high numbers are from a massive increase in administrative deportations. So couching all of this in terms of “criminals”, while the reality is much broader, and the measures discussed are much broader lends itself to the idea that he is really talking about the full spectrum of illegal immigrants. And that idea cannot honestly be dispelled by saying - look the gang was mentioned at some point.

Hug a terrorist today … but do not refer to them as "terrorists … their psyches are too delicate … and bruise easily.

Not that you could tell … what with all their tattoos.

If you are preaching hate the sinner, whatever comfort that that brings you, that is alien to our faith.

Love the terrorist but do more than sending him to bed without supper.
