It sounded like he was referring to undocumented immigrants as animals which I hope we can agree would be a bad thing if true. I hope that was not the case.
He wasn’t. He was talking about members of MS-13. I’m not sure where all they have members, but they certainly do on Long Island where they have butchered some people, probably over drugs.

One could argue that it wasn’t clear in the initial statement that was made, though it was in the whole context. Regardless, Trump clarified later that he was talking only about MS 13.

It only sounded like that if you took the effort to edit out the parts where he specifically said “MS-13”…

That is how it sounded, and looked in some headlines, but it wasn t.
And for us here abroad, " animals" or " beasts" is quite polite…and old- fashioned…there are much worse words or phrases now…

You would have to be a mind reader to accuse Trump of believing all illegals are animals.
He is so blurry that you it would help to be a mind reader. it is mandatory to guess to makes sense of what he said.

His opening remarks included two references to MS-13, but he spoke more broadly of laws in California that apply much more broadly, MS-13 did not come up again until Sheriff Mims spoke,.

The Sheriff gave a long and broad remark about obstacles and conflicts between state and federal After a little interchange with Trump, the sherriff interjected:
“Thank you. There could be an MS-13 member I know about — if they don’t reach a certain threshold, I cannot tell ICE about it.”
Trump went on:
We have people coming into the country, or trying to come in — and we’re stopping a lot of them — but we’re taking people out of the country. You wouldn’t believe how bad these people are. These aren’t people. These are animals. And we’re taking them out of the country at a level and at a rate that’s never happened before. And because of the weak laws, they come in fast, we get them, we release them, we get them again, we bring them out. It’s crazy.

The dumbest laws — as I said before, the dumbest laws on immigration in the world. So we’re going to take care of it, Margaret. We’ll get it done. We’re going to ask that man right there, because that man can do it. (Laughter.) Right now he’s the most important man in the room. Kevin can do it.
It is not obvious that Trump is responding to the totality of what the rest of the conference including the lengthier remarks of the Sheriff, or to the specific, brief allusion to MS-13. He does not say, "we have these MS-13 gang members…, or “those people”; we just get a generic, “We have people…”. The reference to the increased rate of deportation, as a mentioned earlier, does not seem, from data. to be about criminal deportation -(or Trump just is wrong on facts, which is quite possible). And reference to the immigration laws also transcends a discussion of just MS-13 or criminals. McCarthy also mentions MS-13 in the follow up but it is not his key point, just an add on. And those are the four instnaces of MS-13 in the entire transcript.

Overall it is not implausible to claim that Trump was specifically talking about MS-13 as animals. But, because of his rambling, and the facts tossed out, it is not at all obvious that that is the case. It is not implausible to interpret his words are speaking more broadly of illegal immigrants. It is reasonable to think that criminal and bad hombres are being invoked to lay the foundation for a much more restrictive immigration policy that applies to many many more than just criminal illegals.

Agree. When the likes of Nancy Pelosi are reduced to defending these criminals and Kim Jong Un you gotta know the Dems are worried, very very worried by all that Trump has accomplished. That,in spite of them being in his way.😜

You obviously have a lot of time on your hands and not much to worry about, considering your nitpicking, or as my brother-in-law used to say, circumcising fleas.

You obviously have …
You sense of what is obvious is mistaken.
As is your sense of nitpicking.
All I have to do is count the number and content of your posts.

I have to admit, the spectacle of Trump opponents …
Having read the transcripts, the most interesting part fo thei spectacle is the way Trump fans rush to seize the narrative and make the best plausible case for what Trump really meant, when the reality is not at all clear.

Please … right here and now … condemn MS-13 in your strongest possible language.

Also, in your own words, explain your understanding of what MS-13 is.

Sooo … thank you for the clarification: you refuse to condemn MS-13
Get a grip, Monte. The issue raise by (some) “liberals” here wasn’t that MS-13 are poor, misunderstood people, it was the dehumanizing of people. Any people.

Decrying that is absolutely not a defense of MS-13, or a claim that they are anything other than a criminal organization.

Moreover, it is not actually clear that Trump was limiting his comments to MS-13, criminal gangs, criminal illegals, illegals in general , or immigrants. His remarks were awkward blurry for someone who is speaking as POTUS.
