Despite Catholic teachings, women religiously take the pill

The basis is that contraception is a selfish act, where husband and wive hold back from each other and do not become selfless.

Another point - women on the pill grow to dislike there husband.

:hmmm: Though this is just anecdotal, I know couples who, having had as many children as they wanted, are glad to be on the Pill so that the fear of an unwanted pregnancy is relieved.

And what of couples who limit their children by using NFP? You could ask the identical question of them. And, who has the answer?
 
Some Catholics are so smug about disregarding the Church’s teaching in this matter it is sickening. They can take the pill all they want…they just won’t get into heaven.

You supposed to *prove *that it causes those things. You can only show a correlation and come up with theories as to why that correlation exists. Perhaps a warped view of sexuality weakens marriages–sex which when healthy is supposed to strengthen the marital bond.

The correlation is especially salient when you compare divorce between those who practice artificial contraceptives and those who practice NFP. NFP’s divorce rate is less than 4%.
Putting the two side-by-side, its pretty easy to see that the correlation isn’t a coincidence.

Actually, I believe it is less than 1%.
 
There is no mystery. However, over the last 40 years, Catholics have been buried under so much social conditioning – young people hear the term 'hook up" far more often than they hear celibacy - that the Church’s voice is dim. I invite everyone to read the following:

Your link rightly condemns the use of ABC on the part of one partner to frustrate the desires of the other for children. But, more often, the couple is in agreement as to the use of contraceptives.

But, practically speaking, teaching that the couple doesn’t agree with.

Not everyone wants to have the number of children that the two proud fathers on this thread have had - and good for them, by the way, that they were able to manage such large families.

That seems a little harsh. In our culture, it takes time to come to understand the Catholic teaching and accept it.
