Brilliant theology. Everybody’s doing it, therefore it can’t be wrong.
Let’s just ignore that massive correlation between contraceptive use and divorce, infidelity and fornication. Must just be a coincidence.
The dead giveaway that the story is propaganda rather than an objective analysis of the issue is the use of the word “rythym” instead of natural family planning (NFP). When an article is written that way, it is a neon sign. Kind of like when a journalist writes about abortion and compares the “pro-choice” and “anti-choice” positions…
It is true that the vast majority of catholics ignore church teaching on contraception. And that’s a shame. The vast majority of catholics ALSO ignore church teaching on cohabitation and premarital sex too. So what? The majority practice does not determine morality. At one time the majority of Americans found slavery to be an acceptable practice as well.
It’s a shame that the majority of catholics care so little for their faith that they haven’t even given the Bride of Christ a real opportunity to make her case on the issue of contraception. Anyone who hasn’t really needs to read the encyclical Humanae Vitae at least. Turns out it isn’t just an accident that sex is both really fun and often makes babies. God actually made it that way and He’s a pretty smart guy. Usually He has good reasons for what He does. Why not find out?
