I think we may have been too harsh in our judgments. The music is fantastic so far! The choir is singing beautifully.

listening to the Gloria in Latin by the choir
looks like this country esp our Catholics are getting a liturgical education on Latin as the pride of place in liturgical language
Yes!👍

The Gloria in Latin supersedes what followed in gravitas and worshipfulness (what’s the right adjective?) .

I did very much like the prelude music I heard. I didn’t hear it all. Will wait for the streams to be complete then save it all if possible.

The people seem to have added another “and also with you” response at the beginning of the homily. 😃 😛

The music gets more innapropriate as we approach the Eucharist… not good.

They’re really firing off about the music on EWTN. Fr. Neuhaus isn’t impressed…

No kidding! That drumming was downright pagan. Seriously - it was something that would not at all be out of place at a pagan festival in the US. I feel like we’re suddenly in bizarro world.

Surprised and disappointed. What was the person who picked the music thinking?

On a happier note, the Holy Father’s homily held me with rapt attention.

Oh . . . no . . …

Nufsed.

At least the music recovered quickly - to at least tolerable. I do hope that “amazon” choir doesn’t come on again…

Oh Boy… I spoke too soon. A “lounge lizard” solo for the communion of the faithful…

I wish they had the quality of music they had at Vespers last night. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass calls for better…

The current choir and arrangement sounds like it comes from a Pentecostal church.

I really hate this kind of music at church. If I want to rock out I’ll listen to a CD or go to a show. It does not belong in church. In what world is this in any way reverent? I can accept that it could be acceptable in an ethnic parish. But at a papal mass? I don’t understand. I just don’t.

I hear the New York music is much less irreverent…

Maybe there’s something to be said for slow, incremental change. It certainly seems to be the Holy Father’s way. Replacing everything with gregorian chant may not be the best pastoral move - perhaps a strategy of the gradual return of tradition is most appropriate - as much as I hate it.

This music is killing me…wonder what the Holy Father is thinking… Seriously, this is embarassing…that he would be subjected to this…it’s no secret how the Holy Father feels about the music at Mass.

Is this the soudtrack to Mel Gibsons “Apocalypto”? A big dissapointment.

At least the current hymn’s in Latin…but there are vastly better settings to Pange Lingua

I think one of the pieces when communion was starting was sounding like the" blues" and jazz.
really made me cringe and feel depressed and awful for the Pope and for the people receiving communion.
so irreverent.
I heard raymond and father also wondering about it.
wow.
I hope my kids are not watching this at school.
they watched the Pope;s arrival at the white house yesterday all together in the gym.
I pray the reverence usually with the papal Masses is at the other Masses on this visit.
oh boy!
you guys make me laugh. wonder what my mom would be saying. probably a lot of" what on EARTH?" ( she is from Ireland and England)
I really had to turn it down!

The music is a total disappointment. I am embarrassed. So embarrassed. 😦

The jazz thing had the same impression on me. I had to get up and walk out of the room. It was terrible. Who approved that!?!?!

There is an upside… at least the Pope gets to see some of the uglier parts of the American Church up close and personal. Maybe it’ll provoke him to action!

I wish I could tell what he’s thinking now.

This liturgy is quite a hodgepodge of the reverent, the tolerable, and the absolutely apalling. And the frequent applause is killing me… I suspect it’s killing the Pope too.
