Catholics and most Protestants for that matter believe in the Trinity. God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.
You believe in the Almighty God, (the Father) Mighty God, (the Son) and
God’s force that has been explained to me by a Witness as a streak of lightening.
So you believe in 2 gods whether you admit it or not. The Holy Spirit has been around since Genesis when God breathed into Adam.

Believing in the Trinity and believing in the Real Presence is by faith and not reason and Witnesses are not blessed with that kind of faith.

Back to John 6 Jesus couldn’t be any more plain when he says his flesh is real food and his blood is real drink. And Yes we do have to know what he has taught so don’t tell me that it is his words that are his flesh and blood.
this is all the time I have now.
Well there is a difference in being Almighty and being mighty… you believe Jesus is God, that he is equal to God that they have the same power, you believe that of the holy spirit too… we believe God is “Almighty” has more power than Jesus, we believe the holy spirit is Gods active force, the Son who is Jesus works according to the fathers will as the bible says and so does the holy spirit they do not do things according to there own will

I think you speaking of John 6:53? so you believe they literally ate his flesh and drank his blood? no one said that it is his words that are his flesh and blood, that doesnt even make sense, so im not sure what you speaking about. mind to elaborate?

How do Jehovah Witness get around John 10:30?
Well we dont read one verse only but perhaps the whole chapter, in this case the context is from verse 25, let us take a look at that context…
In verse 25, Jesus stated that he did works ‘in the name of his Father’. From verses 27 to 29, he talked about symbolic sheep whom ‘his Father had given him’. Both statements by Jesus would have made little sense to his listeners if he and his Father were one and the same person. When Jesus said him and the Father are one in verse 30, its only then that he was charged by opposers with ‘making himself a god,’ Jesus’ reply was: “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I said: “You are gods”’? If he called ‘gods’ those against whom the word of God came, and yet the Scripture cannot be nullified, do you say to me whom the Father sanctified and dispatched into the world, ‘You blaspheme,’ because I said, I am God’s Son?” again Jesus himself says he is Gods Son…
This charge of blasphemy arose as a result of Jesus having said: “I and the Father are one.” That this did not mean that Jesus claimed to be the Father or to be God is evident from his reply, already partly considered. The oneness to which Jesus referred must be understood in harmony with the context of his statement. He was speaking of his works and his care of the “sheep” who would follow him. His works, as well as his words, demonstrated that there was unity, not disunity and disharmony, between him and his Father, a point his reply went on to emphasize in verse 37 ‘If I am not doing the works of my Father, then do not believe me.’
Look at John 17:20-23 Jesus prayed regarding his followers: “That they may all be one,” and he added, “that they may be one even as we are one.” He used the context “one” in all these instances. Obviously, Jesus’ disciples do not all become part of the Trinity. But they do come to share a oneness of purpose with the Father and the Son, the same sort of oneness that unites God and Christ.

So I’m going to have a Jehovas Witness come over in a week or two. He’s already been over once and we didn’t make much headway with anything. He called me the other day and said he would like to come over and discuss the church. He wants to figure out from the bible, and the bible only what the one and true church is. What bible passages do you all recommend? Obviously Peter and the Rock.
Couple more things. I don’t know you and I don’t know the person you will be talking to, but a couple cautions.

First, Chances are the JW will know his/her way around the Bible much better than you do (not the meaning, but the words). Plus they are trained in taking over a conversation. If you are making a valid point, they know how to change the subject or give an answer that has nothing to do with what you say.

Second, they are very good at “trapping you”. For them to say they want to figure from the bible what the true church is, they are just setting the stage for the conversation. You will probably prepare a bunch of stuff and they are going to hit you with distorted logic and you will end up nowhere. They once told me the were walking the neighborhood to make sure people are reading their Bible and they don’t care what “religion” they follow. This is just plain false. They are out to win converts. I’m not saying that they are dishonest people, they are very faithful and they truly believe they are saving you from Armageddon.

I have tried many approaches with them and they always manage a goofy answer that does not address the question and just throws me off guard. For example, John 1 in the NWT is translated “the word was a god” So I asked if Jesus is not God and is just a god, then isn’t he a false god. The response was “Well, in Acts Agrippa spoke as a god”. WHAT ??

So its tough to keep them on track.

Also, Russell (their founder) was a former Seventh Day Adventist so a lot of their beliefs are in line with the Adventists of the time (preoccupation with end times, denial of the Trinity.) I don’t know how many JW’s realize this, they are probably not permitted to read about their history or at least don’t have that information available to them.

The Bible version they use, the NWT, has been worked over to change any passages that could be used to argue that Jesus is God so using a NWT will start you at a disadvantage. Make sure you have another bible for comparison.

Does this changed verse of theirs mean that they believe there is more than one God?

I didn’t want to get into this topic but okay… Help me understand then… Everyone always mentions John 1:1, all Trinitarians Catholic or not this is always the 1st verse they use to base there belief. But let’s look at it, and let’s look at a few verses in John… I saw someone say Catholics use the RSVCE Bible right, so let’s use that one.

1stly as Christians we all believe that Jesus is “The Word” spoken about in John 1:1, so if we replace “The Word” with “Jesus” then it would be the same thing…
Now let’s read it John 1:1 will then say: "In the beginning was Jesus, and Jesus was with God, and Jesus was God.

Read verse 2 again it says Jesus was in the beginning with God not Jesus is God, if I say you were with someone does it mean you are that person?
John 1:1 isn’t the only verse, but it is key because the Watchtower has proven the Trinity for us from this verse. I’ve never been JW, so I don’t know what they call it, but they gave me a book called “What does the Bible Really Teach,” availble on the JW.org website for free.

In the Appendix it has a short chapter On the Trinity. Here is what it says:John 1:1 states: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (King James Version)

Bear in mind that this part of the Bible was originally written in Greek. Later, translators rendered the Greek text into other languages. A number of Bible translators, though, did not use the phrase “the Word was God.” Why not? Based on their knowledge of Biblical Greek, those translators concluded that the phrase “the Word was God” should be translated differently. How? Here are a few examples: “The Logos [Word] was divine.” (A New Translation of the Bible) “The Word was a god.” (The New Testament in an Improved Version) “The Word was with God and shared his nature.” (The Translator’s New Testament) According to these translations, the Word is not God himself.

John also states that the Word was *“with *God.” But how can an individual be *with *someone and at the same time *be *that person?
The official doctrine of the Trinity teaches that Personhood and Nature are different. You are a person, you are a different person than your own dad, but you have the same (human) nature as your dad. You are not your dad, but you have his nature, and thus you have his same ‘abilities’.

The Watchtower officially thinks that this is what Christians are saying by John1:1, “In the beginning was the Son, and the Son was with the Father, and the Son was the Father.” But this is completely wrong and is the exact opposite of the Christian doctrine on the Trinity. :crying:

Rather, the Greek text makes it very clear what John was saying so that there would be no confusion (it only becomes confusing in English). How do we know this? Because the Watchtower has given us “correct” translations of 1:1c above! “The Word was divine” and “The Word was with God and shared God’s nature.”

Thus, the true doctrine of the Trinity, proven directly from the JWs is this: “In the beginning was the Son, and the Son was with the Father, and the Son had the God the Father’s divine nature.” 👍 Thus, Jesus is a different person than the father (just as you are a different person from your parents), but Jesus has the same divine nature as God the Father (just as you have your parents nature).

The Watchtower repeatedly thinks the Trinity means “the Father IS the Son,” but that’s completely wrong. Rather, the Trinity means “the Father and Son are distinct persons but have the same divine nature”. 🙂

From the Haydock Commentary

John 10: 30. I and the Father are one,[2] or one being, not one person, nor one by an union of affection only, but in nature, substance, power, and other perfections, as appears by the whole text: for Christ here tells them that none of his elect shall perish, because no one can snatch them out of his hands, no more than out of the hands of his Father: and then adds, that he and his Father are one, or have one equal power: and if their power, says St. Chrysostom, is the same, so is their substance. Christ adds, (ver. 38.) that the Father is in him, and he in the Father; which also shews an union of nature and substance, and not only of love and affection, especially when taken with other words of our Saviour Christ. John 6:63 It is the spirit that gives life the flesh has nothing to offer. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life.

This is the verse that a Witness used to deny the Real Presence and that is is Jesus words that give life. Jesus words do give life in conjunction with his flesh being real food and his blood being real drink. If you don’t beleive his words than you won’t believe in the Real Presence.

Okay so where in the Bible does it say they have equal power?

I don’t understand how this would prove Jesus is God or has anything to do with the trinity… Unless you on another topic…

When Catholics receive the Eucharist they are receiving the Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity of the Risen, Glorified Jesus Christ!

Jesus, the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity was never St Michael the Archangel.

thank you so much for bringing this to the fore… I’m so glad we can agree that the Father and the Son is 2 different people, So now answer me one simple question… When I say "you have the same nature as your father " does it mean that you are equal? The definition of nature means the basic or inherent features, character, or qualities of something. Definition of Devine basically means relating to, coming from, or like God or a god.
So my question again… If Jesus and his Father has the same devine nature does it make them equal in power? That’s like a yes or no answer…

And I don’t think the watchtower has ever taught that the Father is the Son nore have they ever taught that the Son is the Father

Does this changed verse of theirs mean that they believe there is more than one God?
They do not, which is what makes their translation more confusing. What does it mean to say that the Word was a god?

Yes, having the same nature makes you equal in dignity. A husband and a wife are equal in dignity, but the husband can still take a role that is ‘above’ his wife. Women are not ‘second class’ in a marriage, they just have a sub-ordinate role.
And I don’t think the watchtower has ever taught that the Father is the Son nore have they ever taught that the Son is the Father
Correct, the WT does not teach the Son IS the Father…but the WT has said Christians believe the Son IS the Father, which is not a correct claim. So the WT has misunderstood what Christians are saying.

If I went around saying “JWs teach that Jesus is Moses,” I would be deceived and misrepresenting JWs, which is wrong. Yet the WT is going around saying “Christians believe the Son is the Father.”

Three persons yes BUT One God.

Philippians 2:5 tells us that Jesus was in the form of God but was “emptied” by taking the form of a servant.

Short answer is yes, but Philippians 2:5 tells us that Jesus was in the form of God but was “emptied” by taking the form of a human.

Agree… Having the same nature does make you equal in dignity… But you didn’t answer the question, Does it make you equal in power?
Husband and wife are equal in dignity… Agree… Question: Does it make them equal in power?

you will be surprised to what people believe… Remember we are known for our preaching work we preach to many people of different beliefs… The belief of the trinity is not the same in all denominations… Some can’t even explain it an say must just have faith, others say it’s a mystery, others do say Jesus is the Father, an we would often ask them if he is the father to who was he praying when he said “our father who is in heaven, let your name be sanctified”
If I went around saying “JWs teach that Jesus is Moses,” I would be deceived and misrepresenting JWs, which is wrong. Yet the WT is going around saying “Christians believe the Son is the Father.”
Lol have you not seen the weird things people has been saying about us, damn… Ive read some comments on this thread of people saying Jw are like this and believe in this and that… I sit over here and think to myself where do they get all there information… You can easily go on the Internet type in Google about us an bam you get a lot of bad things or negative things you can say, you will believe it without even knowing a thing about us and our background or history… And yes Jw’s are aware of the history of this organisation it’s not kept secret like someone said. How do you think I must feel reading these things which is not true… I don’t mind people asking me what is our beliefs and why do we belief in this or that

The Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit are of the same essence/substance
