Diane Sawyer also failed to mention that most of the expensive items used by the Pope were given to him by wealthy people like his Prada shoes, Versaci sunglasses, his toy Ferrari, etc.

I never thought too much about Diane Sawyer one way or another until I saw her comments on The Pope’s message about Christmas.
In essence, she pointed out that since Pope Benedict XVI wears Prada shoes, he is not one to exclaim against materialism. ???
She must be the new Catholic bashing appointee of the media.
I will watch her no more.

The way to find a female pope is, 1.) ignore the scriptures, and 2.) ignore the historical record. Diane Sawyer is willing.

Female pope = the lost travelers dream buried under a hill.

Check out the promotional ad for this Thursday evening’s (December 29, 2005) episode of ABC’s Primetime. The promo is for the story, “On the Trail of Pope Joan” (audiotape on file; emphasis mine):
“Diane Sawyer takes you on the trail of a passionate mystery. Just as intriguing as The Da Vinci Code. Chasing down centuries-old clues hidden even inside the Vatican. Could a woman disguised as a man have been Pope? Thursday night. One astonishing Primetime.”
It doesn’t get much uglier than this, folks. Quite simply, there was never a female pope, or “Pope Joan.” The tale is a complete fabrication dating back to the 13th century - nearly 400 years after the reported “reign” of the so-called “Joan.” For reliable summaries of the bogus tale, see this and this. Scholars debunked the fable hundreds of years ago, and recent books (this and this, for example) have further repudiated it.
Over the centuries, the “Pope Joan” story has been used as a slanderous tool to tarnish the Catholic Church and degrade Catholics. In his acclaimed 2003 book The New Anti-Catholicism, Philip Jenkins writes, “The Pope Joan legend is a venerable staple of the anti-Catholic mythology” (page 89). Jenkins adds,
“Though it has not the slightest foundation … [f]rom the sixteenth century through the nineteenth, the tale was beloved by Protestants, since it testified to Catholic stupidity … [Today] Pope Joan enjoys a lively presence on the Web, where feminist anti-Catholics celebrate her existence much as did seventeenth-century Calvinists” (page 89).
That a major network like ABC would lend credibility to such a vicious anti-Catholic smear is deplorable.
What could be worse? Donna Woolfolk Cross’ novel, Pope Joan, seeks to advance the stature and validity of the fictional character, and a movie of this book is currently in production. Yikes.
Ugh. Anti-Catholicism goes “Primetime” …

Maybe when the do the show they will conclude that this was (as still is) a hoax? I hope so, but I am not holding my breath.

I wonder if the people at the brainstorming session where thinking, you know people seem to really like this religious stuff, maybe they will like this idea?

Found this article on tonight’s show:
ABC News airs ‘female pope’ claim
Catholics say ‘Joan’ a myth used historically to ridicule church

Similar to its take on the controversial “Da Vinci Code,” ABC News “Primetime” gives credence to the claim that a woman disguised as a man served as pope in medieval Rome.

Titled “On the Trail of Pope Joan,” an ABC promo says, “Diane Sawyer takes you on the trail of a passionate mystery. Just as intriguing as ‘The Da Vinci Code.’ Chasing down centuries-old clues hidden even inside the Vatican. Could a woman disguised as a man have been pope? Thursday night. One astonishing Primetime.”

I may watch it just to get a list of advertisers. That way I will know who not to buy from. I will be particular interested in local advertisers. This is the place were we can make a bigger impression.

You probably nailed it. Its all about dollars.

Response from the Catholic League:
**ABC-TV DISCOVERS “POPE JOAN” **
Tonight, ABC’s “Primetime” will air a segment, “On the Trail of Pope Joan,” that raises questions about the possible existence of Pope Joan. Catholic League president Bill Donohue weighed in today:

“ABC has been busy questioning the divinity of Jesus for years, what with its infamous ‘Search for Jesus’ specials. In May of this year, it went back to the well again with a ‘20/20’ episode questioning the resurrection of Jesus. Correspondent Elizabeth Vargas told viewers: ‘Whether the resurrection proclaimed by the disciples was physical, metaphysical, or simply a hallucination—the dreams of grieving followers,’ is not known. In other words, Christians have likely been duped. And tonight we learn that we’ve been duped again—a woman pope ruled in the ninth century.
Looks like this may be worse than expected from ABC

I am, for sheer comic value. Or would be if it could be characterized as funny. But the fact is that a good many people, uneducated both in Church history and theology, are gonna take this as chapter and verse. My favorite quote by Diabolical Sawyer so far has been “THIS is not a fairy tale…THIS is one of the greatest riddles in history.” Please, it’s a story that’s right up there with The Man In The Iron Mask and Jim Morrison faking his death and wandering the barrelhouses of Texas.

I know you’re supposed to pray for your enemies, but this is one of the few times that I really don’t want to be nice. Ah, well.

second station break…what a bunch of junk…Diane S. and crew haven’t yet proven a thing…caught the anti-male comments
This is mostly anti-Catholic. How dare they even refer Davinci Code…fiction…fiction…fiction

third station break and I still have not seen or heard anything remotely convincing…and why is ABC referring to the Davinci Code as though it is a college textbook?

Diane S. should let up on the blonde hair dye…I think it is seeping into her scalp and brain and causing a distinct elevated level of dizziness.

fourth station break…this is shaping up to look like the basis for ABC to take jabs at the all-male priesthood.

OK, I’ve watched the entire thing, but I have not caught the name of the annoying brow-haired bouncy haired woman.

Is is just me or is she just like a stereotypical gossip? The way she speaks, “If this was just for X…”…(dramatic pause)…arrogant head bounce, lean forward…"…then why Y???" Smug expression.

Am I the only person here who finds this fraud to be annoying in her manner?

OH…now “proof” is “internet search results”.

This has to be one of the shoddiest reports I have EVER seen…so willfully ignoring the truth in favor of propagating obvious mythology.

She touched on some of the actual facts…but glossed over them so quickly she seemed to “discredit” her need to discuss them further.

Ok…so the show is over and I am thinking I might have benefitted more watching an hours worth of UFO stories.

That chair?!?
Oh Diane Sawyer…I know you were hoping for a chance to play a bit with it…too bad you could only look at it in pictures.

That chair had a distinct look of being nothing more than a sturdy commode.

Who was anybody kidding?

And if by some small chance the maleness of a pope was checked that way…so what. Get over it.

One think to keep in mind, according to Patrick Madrid in “Pope Fiction” is that even IF (pretty big “if”) there WERE a female pope, that would mean nothing more than an invalid election.

Nothing more.

Of course, as Lino Rulli pointed out…a female pope has a baby in the middle of a papal procession…a BUNCH OF ITALIANS (Ruilli is Italian…he likes to bring this up) KEPT THEIR MOUTHS SHUT for 400 YEARS about this event…yeah, right.

Rulli commented that Italians like to talk to so much they use their hands…there is NO WAY they could keep an event like this secret.

He’s right, and Madrid brings this up in his own book…but withotu the colloquialism used by Rulli.

The bouncy brunette…and dizzy Diane Sawyer were the worst.

The reporting could best be described as shoddiest. ABC news has stooped to new lows…

and ya know all along I was thinkin’ " So what if by some small chance this happened? So what…get over and move on."
