Here’s my take on this whole idea: I used to watch a show called “Strange Universe” that reported on all sorts of things…from the Geek Squad in their little cars to strange pagan rituals to snake dancing fundamentalists in the south.
I am not adverse to the media doing a story about the alleged Pope Joan. I agree that the mythology is interesting.
The issue I have is that they way they did it is so obviously anti–Catholic.
I have to confess that while watching the show I actually asked God to smack these people a few times. Not kill them, not “vwrath of God” stuff, but a divine smack upside the head. I’ve recieved several myself, so I can say it’s appropriate for them, also.
Amazing what a divine smack can do for the readjustment of perspective to the correct angle.
Anyway, this is how it should have been done:

Anyway, this is how it should have been done:
- Hypothesis: Pope Joan- truth or myth?
- Search the source…what does the Church say? This is a myth affecting the Church…check out the Chruch defenses
- Follow the threads…is what the Church saying credible? Is what the myth-sayers credible?
- Use credible sources from all faiths or non-faiths.
- Dont discredit myself in the reporting…I need the paycheck.
