Did Mary Die?

There is a very fascinating book “The Life of the Blessed Virgin Mary” From the Visions of Venerable Sister Anne Catherine Emmerich. The book has Nihil Obstat & Imprimatur which means it is consistent with Catholic doctrine and free of moral error. fisheaters.com/imprimatur.html

According to Sister Anne Catherine Emmerich’s visions, the Blessed Virgin Mary died in Ephesus at the age of 64, 14 years after the ascension of Jesus.

Mary was buried in a tomb. The following is Sister Anne Catherine Emmerich’s vision:

“Those who were on their way home saw from the distance a strange radiance over Mary’s tomb, which moved them to wonder, though they did not know what it really was. I saw it, too, but of all that I saw I remember only the following. It was as if a shaft of light descended from heaven towards the tomb, and in this shaft was a lovely form like the soul of the Blessed Virgin, accompanied by the form of Our Lord; then the body of Our Lady, united to the shining soul, rose shining out of the grave and soared up to heaven with the figure of Our Lord. All this lies in my memory as something half realized and yet distinct.”

Amazing! If you read any of her visions from all her books, they are very detailed.

Ofcourse, this vision is not in the Bible, Public Revelation. However, for those of you who believe in SOla Scriptura, read the below Bible verse:

John 21:25 “There are also many other things that Jesus did, but if these were to be described individually, I do not think the whole world would contain the books that would be written.”

Therefore, just because the Bible, Public Revelation, doesnt reveal the details of Mary’s death and assumption into Heaven, it doesnt mean that God, who is all powerful, and nothing is impossible for Him, cannot reveal or give to us revelations on this subject outside of the Bible, such as the visions of Sister Anne Catherine Emmerich.

Augustine declared that Mary’s flesh was “flesh of sin.” (De Peccatorum Meritis, ii, c. 24).
“Mary, springing from Adam, died because of sin; and the flesh of our Lord, derived from Mary, died to take away sin.” (De Peccatorum Meritis, ii, c. 24).
Can you provide a link?

“Mary, springing from Adam, died because of sin; and the flesh of our Lord, derived from Mary, died to take away sin.” (De Peccatorum Meritis, ii, c. 24).
Jesus died because of sin (just like your quote says) but that does not mean He personally sinned and neither does the above quote indicates Mary had personal sin.

Not all of Augustine’s theology is perfect either…

Augustine was a Pope was he not. Thus the position of the catholic church is Mary was a sinner. Mary died because of sin. No big news there. We all do. Jesus died because he became sin for us a large difference.
Thank you Fr Ambrose i was reading you post about how Mary died and all the apostles were translated and came to Israel and paid her honor. I was so moved and touched. Could you answer me a question about it. How come not one of the Apostles spoke of it or wrote on it and and it is not supported in one scripture. Also as Mary was a sinner how did it happen period. More over as you would you say, it was odd that Mary is reported by this tridation to have a greater fan fare the Jesus the God of the living God. Funny this is not recorded by any of the other remining christian churchs of that time.
John Paul II said that Mary was sinless all her life. In his general audience of June 19, 1996, he said: “Mary was free from personal sin and moral imperfection throughout her life” (Vatican Information Service, June 19, 1996).
Does not seem to match Augustines words on the matter.
So who would be lieing her John Paul ll or Augustine?
Fact is mary died and she was a sinner like all people. And per the word of God mary had 7 children encluding Jesus and maybe more. Mary was a pure woman of God and a chosen vessel but not more then any other young child. Mary raised a family which is a holy thing. She gave birth to childen which is a blessed thing. She also engaged in having relations with her husband which is also holy. Mary indeed was a good woman. Was she infact the mother of God. No, God is her creator she is a servant unto GOD. She is the mother of Jesus, Jesus is a part of God and he is also God in the flesh. He is fully God and fully man. Mary gave birth to the flesh of Christ but Christ existed before the earth ever did. Mary on the other hand did not exist until her parents created her in the Womb.
The bible is about God the father and his bride israel. And about the son of God and his bride the body of Christ. It is about GOD not mary.

I used the word maybe to be exact. We know of 4 brother and Jesus and at least 2 sister from the new testiment. But it could be more then 2 sisters the word sisters if pural thus indicating more then one. We do not know how many sister doe sure. But we know 4 + 1 + 2 equals 7. It is called being correct and in agreement with the truth.

Where in the Bible are these numbers mentioned? I’ve read the Gospels and find no mention of such!

This is unscriptural bunkum. You can cite that but the fact is that that is a literalist interpretation when in fact the literal meaning is something else again.

Do you also expect to find cats and dogs falling out of the sky when someone tells you how bad it’s raining?

If Our Lord had brothers and sisters as you assert then why would he have given Mary into the care of St. John. The law of the day was that children took care of their widowed mother and that a younger child never rebuked the eldest. Now if those had been actual blood kin of Jesus then they were responsible for the care of the Blessed Virgin because Joseph had been dead for some time. (Hey he’s not mentioned after Jesus is 12!)

History tells us that Joseph was a much older man and a widower who had children by his first wife. If that is true then that explains what I have pointed out to you, since step children were not responsible for the step mother…her own children were. Hence one of the last things that Jesus does from the cross is attend to that need.

Since elsewhere in the New Testament it says that his brothers rebuked him that means that they were older step brothers and not blood kin.

You really need to give up the preaching of fallacious messages like this.

I am just a little old lady…

Well, in the interests of truth, I am a:D 😛 not-very-little-at-all-any-more lady, but as I was saying…

After 2-score, 10 & 5 years of reading my Bible, I find that it doesnae say in it, anywhere, that, “4+2+1=7”. I think it does say that, in an arithmetic book I used once, back in grammar school, but unless “Practical Arithmetic: 3rd Grade” has been added to the Canon of Scripture when I was:cool: not looking, we cannae be basing our theology on that.

The Semetic languages had no word for exact word for cousin. That is why in Genesis Lot is once referred to as Abraham’s brother even though Lot was really Abraham’s nephew. The words brothers and sisters does not mean that Jesus had actual siblings but could also refer to cousins as well.

Mr. Joseph Smith,

You are wrong and you do not speak the truth about Mary and Jesus. There is no word in Aramaic and Hebrew for the term “cousin(s)”. The verse that talks about “Mary’s children” is talking about a different Mary.

John 19:25 we read, “Standing near the Cross of Jesus was His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary of Klopas, and Mary magdala.” If our Church history is correct, how could Mary have had a sister? The first clue to our answer is that both women are named Mary. ! No family has two daughters and gives them both the same name! Therefore it is evident that the relationship between the two women has to be something different than our modern English concept of “sister”. The second clue to our answer is that the Bible clearly identifies this Mary of Klopas (Cleopas in KJV), as the mother of Jesus’ “brothers”. The name Klopas or Cleopas is the same as Alphaeus in the Aramaic language which Jesus spoke. Therefore the so-called brothers of Jesus mentioned at Mark 6:3 are elsewhere clearly identified as the sons of Alphaeus and his wife Mary of Klopas - the “sister” of the Virgin Mary.

Thus the Scriptures show that the “brothers” of Christ are not His brothers, but some relation. There is no scriptural evidence to support the notion that the Virgin Mary bore any other children apart from Jesus Christ our God.

Oh that I were wrong. For i would gladly suffer the judgement for being wrong that all the catholic peoples could come to the truth. Yeat i am not wrong. For i know nothing but Christ and his suffering. if i testify of myself i am surly wrong but i point to the word of Grace, to the true foundation and to the chief corner stone and the 12 foundaitons of the chruch ( the new testiment) They are the true path and they are always right. God does not error.
When shall you return unto the Lord?

Who is the cornerstone of the Church according to the Fathers?

St Ephrem

“Blessed are you Simon Kepha Who holds the keys which the Spirit forges Great is the word and ineffable That could stand bind and loose above and below Blessed are thou who wert as the head And as the tounge of the body of brotheren Through Simon was heard the Revelation from the Father Through the Rock unshakable”

“The Simon, my disciple, have I set as foundation of the Holy Church, I called thee Kepha that thou mightest bear all buildings Thou art the overseer (baharo) of those who build for me the Church on earth If they build anything hateful the foundation restrains them Thou art the foundation-head of my disciples By thee I will give drink to all nations thou hast the sweetness of life which I will give I have given thee keys of my kingdom Behold. Thou rulest over all my possession.”

“Through envy and jealousy, the greatest and most righteous pillars [of the Church] have been persecuted and put to death. Let us set before our eyes the illustrious apostles. Peter, through unrighteous envy, endured not one or two, but numerous labours and when he had at length suffered martyrdom, departed to the place of glory due to him.” *Clement of Rome, The First Epistle of Clement, 5 (c. A.D. 96). *

“Matthew also issued a written Gospel among the Hebrews in their own dialect, while Peter and Paul were preaching at Rome, and laying the foundations of the Church.” *Irenaeus, Against Heresies, 3:1:1 (c. A.D. 180). *

“It is, therefore, recorded that Paul was beheaded in Rome itself, and that Peter likewise was crucified under Nero. This account of Peter and Paul is substantiated by the fact that their names are preserved in the cemeteries of that place even to the present day. It is confirmed likewise by Caius, a member of the Church, who arose under Zephyrinus, bishop of Rome. He, in a published disputation with Proclus, the leader of the Phrygian heresy, speaks as follows concerning the places where the sacred corpses of the aforesaid apostles are laid: ‘But I can show the trophies of the apostles. For if you will go to the Vatican or to the Ostian way, you will find the trophies of those who laid the foundations of this church.’” Gaius, fragment in Eusebius’ Church History, 2:25 (A.D. 198).

"Or rather, if we hear him here, we shall certainly see him hereafter, if not as standing near him, yet see him we certainly shall, glistening near the Throne of the king. Where the Cherubim sing the glory, where the Seraphim are flying, there shall we see Paul, with Peter, and as a chief and leader of the choir of the Saints, and shall enjoy his generous love. For if when here he loved men so, that when he had the choice of departing and being with Christ, he chose to be here…” John Chrysostom, Epistle to the Romans, Homily 32:24 (c. A.D. 391).

👍

Don’t let these historical facts scramble your anti-Catholic brain now… 😉

What is Jesus the cornerstone of, what rock is he? It is found throughout the OT and NT. Without exception, he is the rock of salvation.

What is Peter the rock of? The church. Peter is not the rock of salvation, but of the church.

Oh that protestants would come to know the truth instead of having the sand fall out from under their houses creating so many different denominations and beliefs. Christ truly is a stumbling block.

Oh that protestants would recognize the apostles as the foundations instead of the NT.

20: built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone,
21: in whom the whole structure is joined together and grows into a holy temple in the Lord;
22: in whom you also are built into it for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

Pray that those who stumble return to the truth, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and bulwark of truth.

15: if I am delayed, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and bulwark of the truth.

Peace and God Bless

They are the true path and they are always right.
Actually Jesus is the truth, the way, and the life. You are bordering on bibliolatry.
God does not error.
True enough. But mans personal interpretation of what he says sure does.
When shall you return unto the Lord?
Back at ya. 😉

What is Peter the rock of? The church. Peter is not the rock of salvation, but of the church.
Let’s expand on this idea…

The Church is the bride of Christ. Christ is the rock of salvation. Peter is the rock of the Church (the Prime Minister). Christ finished His mission when He established His Church, by sharing His name (rock) with Simon who would be renamed Peter, or rock. Only two times in the Bible (Old & New Testament) does God change someone’s name. God changed Jacob’s name to Israel, and he became father of the Judaic nation. Jesus Christ, God incarnate, changed His disciple and apostle’s name, Simon, to Peter, His own name. He was thus sharing His authority with a human instrument… because He intended humans to continue His work. He gave Adam domain over the plants and the animals because he was the first man, and He gave Peter domain over the Church because he was the first to confess that Christ was the Son of God.

Some one posted this quote:

St. Alphonsus Liguouri, in his masterpiece “Glories of Mary” said that like her Son, she did die despite being sinless. One reason is that God granted her the privilege of following the path her Son took. Likewise, her ardent love for God and her desire to be with God was too strong for her not-yet-glorified body. The same goes for her sorrows due to her great love for her Son and her knowledge of His sufferings. These sorrows would have killed any other human being. St. Alphonsus says it was a great supernatural miracle to keep her alive for for every moment she lived.

I can answer that for you, yes she died and i bet that they even burried her in a tomb. Also Mary was a sinner or she would not have died. Sin leads to death. You know Jesus saved the sinners not the sinless. And Jesus wants Mary in heaven with him does he not. Mary was one of the very first converts to Christianity. Now as the bible states all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Of course God is not speaking of himself because he is spirit and he is speaking of mankind. The holy spirit never boast of himself. He does bear witness of Christ. As the holy spirit gives the scripture if you claim that Mary is not a sinner you are calling the Holy Spirit a lier. So you might want to think about that. Because sinning against him is not forgiven.
I guess Jesus was a sinner because he died, right?

God Bless,
Michael
