JoeyWarren,

You are very welcomeYou misunderstood. I have since been given the gifts of tongues. However, I have never since been given the gift of interpretation.
But I sincerely thank you for you prayers![]()
that is something I have not considered before, thanks for pointing it out.Paul teaches that a proliferation of tongue-speaking in a church may actually be a sign of unbelief and Godâs ensuing judgment upon them. When Paul teaches the Corinthians about the proper use of tongues (1 Cor. 14:21), he quotes from Isaiah 28:11-12: âBy men of strange tongues and by the lips of foreigners will I speak to this people, and even then they will not listen to me, says the Lord.â Paulâs use of Isaiah is significant because he is referring to the apostate Jews of the 8th century right before they were destroyed by the Assyrians. To punish the Jews, God first allowed the Assyrians to speak in foreign tongues to them to confuse them before they were ultimately destroyed. Godâs judgment being revealed in the form of foreign tongues was first prophesied to Israel in the 15th century, B.C. (see Deut. 28:49-50). Remember also how God sent unintelligible tongues to punish His people for their lack of faith at the tower of Babel (Genesis 11).
Therefore, Paul is warning the Corinthians that their abuse of tongue-speaking is a sign of Godâs judgment against them. These abuses included many people speaking in tongues, out of turn, without an interpreter, and for pride and not the edification of the church. This is why Paul says that âtongues are a signâŚfor unbelieversâ (1 Cor. 14:22). This is the same âsignâ that God gave the unbelieving Jews before they were punished.
This is also why Paul says that unbelievers look at the whole Corinthian church speaking in tongues and conclude that they âare madâ (1 Cor. 14:23). Paul is telling the Corinthians that their abuse of tongues makes them look insane, and this is a sign of their unbelief (that is why tongues are a âsign for unbelieversâ; the âunbelieversâ were the Corinthians themselves). This is the same reason why Jesus spoke in parables, to further harden the hearts of those who did not believe in Him, as a punishment for their lack of faith (Matt. 13:13-15).

Hi Guanophore, do you have any historical sources to show that people were burned alive by the roman goverment before Nero? Around 55-56 AD?Good job Daniel! However, keep in mind that the condemned were burned for centuries before Christians became part of that group.
Paul is not speaking hyperbole.
Agreed.I think the Major thing we all agree on is that whatever gift, talent, or service we perform in life or in church must be done through agape or Godâs love.
Thus the genuine gifts of the spirit, should have a correspondance with the fruits of the spirit in gal 5.

Have you received the Confirmation at the Catholic Church?None whatsoever.
I recieved the âBaptism of the Holy Ghostâ in the Catholic Church during a Catholic Charasmatic Renewel in Lafayette, LA.
I later converted to a Oneness Pentecostal church for several years.
I know members of several denominations that practice this phenomenonâŚ
I was not thinking that the Holy Spirit never works with those who were not confirmed. How He works with each individual is different but His purpose is the same for all.I had been confirmed before hand yes, but Iâve known many good people who were never catholic and have recieved the experience.
The gift of Tongues is between you and God. IF itâs used to address a congregation, then it MUST be followed by and interpretation.I was not thinking that the Holy Spirit never works with those who were not confirmed. How He works with each individual is different but His purpose is the same for all.
Today, I talked to a lady who told me that if I donât use the gift of tongue, then it is my lost. I didnât want to go into any debate with her because my conversation with her was focusing on something else.
Truly, some people, such as the lady, think using the gift of tongue is a must. I donât believe that.
BAM!!! Thatâs the whole problem! They put soooooooo much emphasize on it that they completely disregard what Scripture actually says. Itâs like they forget itâs a gift and not everyone is going to receive the same gifts, i.e. not everyone is going to receive the gift of tongues. In fact they seem to forget that tongues is actually a lesser gift. Prophecy is a greater gift but you do not see these people playing that one up.I was not thinking that the Holy Spirit never works with those who were not confirmed. Exactly. The like to point to 1 Cor 15:5 where it says, âI would have you all to speak with tonguesâ ignoring the rest of the verse: âbut rather to prophesy. For greater is he that prophesieth, than he that speaketh with tongues: unless perhaps he interpret, that the church may receive edification.â (D-R)BAM!!! Thatâs the whole problem! Welcome to CAF Marie! Since you are new here, you probably donât realize that you have found an âoldâ thread. If you look at the original post (OP) you can see it is dated 2007. That usually means that everyone who was participating in the thread is long gone.Well iam a one God Apostolic tongue talking Apostolic( Pentecostal) woman that used to be Catholic.
I am curious Marie. What do you mean by âthe gift of teh Holy Ghost speaking in tonguesâ?Yes there is a big! deference in how you use the gift of the Holy Ghost speaking in tongues some people use it to make f
This is a very Catholic thing to say.un or give people a rhymes to say really fast so they get tongue tied and say that they got the Holy Ghost boy are they soo wrong to say there holier than every one else.
Did you know that the gift of the Holy Ghost is not a âfeelingâ?But as for My Pastor and my church family and myself We truly have the gift of the Holy Ghost the most amazing feeling you will ever feel in your life.
It is great that you finally came to appreciate the gift of the Holy Ghost that was placed in you at your Baptism.People say it is not an importance but i reassure you it is . I was born and raised Catholic and my whole family is devout catholic. I remember questioning the catholic faith when i was younger things didnât add up to me and i always felt a emptiness in my heart.it wasnât until December of 2009 when that void was filled with the Holy Ghost. My relationship with God is so amazing i talk to God all the time he is my best friend.
This is a common misunderstanding, but it does help explain why you consider yourself a former Catholic. Some thing i didnât quite understand growing up as a catholic Like i never understood why i needed to confess my sins to a priest not being disrespectful but God knows all sees all and hears all so why donât they believe God is good enough to only confess your sins to why do i need some onelse to do it for me.
It is a sad fact that some Catholics repeat memorized prayers in vain, because their heart and their spirit are not in the prayer. When I grew up Catholic I used to think this way too, because my own heart, like yours, was not filled with the Spirit in whom I was sealed for the day of redemption. I also did not learn how to meditate on the Rosary, so I messed the whole point.or why there are more prayers to Mary on the rosary then to God i know Mary is important but im all about worshiping and parsing God.And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words. Matthew 6:7
This is an ancient practice that comes from doing baptisms where there was very little water. You are right that baptism does mean immersion, and the Catholic Church teaches that this is the fullest sign of the Sacrament. I am happy to see baptismal fonts being installed in Catholic Churches now that are large enough for people to climb inside.or why when they baptize they only sprinkle water on their heads because the word baptism means full immersion.
You donât see original sin in your bible?Or why they say you have to be baptized as a baby for original sin were is that in the bible?
Original sin is not the same as a personal sin. Original sin is the tendency toward sin that we have as a result of the Fall of Adam and Eve. In the New Testament it is called the âfleshâ, which is set against the Spirit.because the bible truly states that"The person who sins will die. The son will not bear the punishment for the fatherâs iniquity, nor will the father bear the punishment for the sonâs iniquity; the righteousness of the righteous will be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked will be upon himself." Ezekiel 18:20.
Yes, Jesus Christ is the name above all names. :extrahappy:or that Catholics and some other religions say you have to be baptized in the name of the Father the Son and they Holy Spirt . because they get confused of the Bible scripture matt 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: What is the name of the Father its Jesus The name of the Son is Jesus and the name of the Holy Ghost is Jesus For all these 3 are one. If you read acts 2:38 it says Then Peter said unto them, Repent , and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off , even as many as the Lord our God shall call .It says In the Name what is the name Jesus Christ is the name above all names.
Yes, all the gifts of the Holy Ghost apply to us. This is what the Catholic Church believes and teaches. And that is also were we are promised the Gift of the Holy Ghost some people say it donât apply to us but why would Jesus put it in the bible if it was not so because the bible is the same today tomorrow and forever it didnât change then and it doesnât change now.
Jesus taught how He wanted us to worship Him at the Last Supper. There is nothing wrong with exhuberant praise, but sometimes people tend to make their worship all based in their emotions, and this is not good for spiritual growth.i can find people so many scriptures its unbelievable of why us Pentecostals believe what we do and its all in the bible. Some people that visit a Pentecostal church think were weird because the why we worship. well it say in Luke 19:37-41 As he was drawing nearâalready on the way down the Mount of Olivesâthe whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, saying, âBlessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!â And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, âTeacher, rebuke your disciples.â He answered, âI tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.â And when he drew near and saw the city, he wept over it,.
Some instructions in the NT are pastoral, and are related to the culture of the time. Some are doctrinal, and cannot change. No one should make fun of you, though, for being devout in your faith, or wearing modest clothing.hear is one more before i conclude my Beliefs and questions People frown up us because we have long hair and dress modestly wearing sleeves and long skirts well in Corinthians 11:5-15 it says 5 But every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head: for that is even all one as if she were shaven . 6 For if the woman be not covered , let her also be shorn : but if it be a shame for a woman to be shorn or shaven , let her be covered . 7 For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man. 8 For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. 9 Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man. 10 For this cause ought the woman to have power on her head because of the angels. 11 Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord. 12 For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God. 13 Judge in yourselves : is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered? 14 Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair , it is a shame unto him? 15 But if a woman have long hair , it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering. and as for the way we dress it say in Deuteronomy 22:5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a womanâs garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.
Are you calling upon Catholics to leave the Church? Perhaps you believe we should all become Apostolic Pentecostals? My last imput Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate , saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,. iam proud Apostolic( Pentecostal) woman i love being Pentecostal! i could go on and on about diffrent scriptures but i think im gonna stop here.
