I am okay with the idea that those who wish to risk their lives for the greater good should be able to do so.
You seem to also be OK with the idea that those same people should be able to risk the lives of others, by exposing them to this virus.

I didn’t actually say that. I am okay with the idea that those who wish to risk their lives for the greater good should be able to do so
Actually, that’s EXACTLY what you said. By allowing large numbers to go to “Communion in droves”, they’re going to disburse after Mass…correct? Maybe the grocery store…gas station…back to loved ones that didn’t want to take the chance…ect… That put them in the position to expose more than “those who want to risk their lives”…

Those of us who are responsible enough to stay home under the “shelter in place” order are stuck here longer due to the decisions of a few, where their needs (although dispensed) are greater than my family being responsible enough to stay home.

But Americans are so frightened of this invisible enemy that for fear of their lives they would deprive you of your greatest consolation in the worst of moments
They are also trying to deprive innocent people of losing their lives.

You used a pronoun “this” without antecedent. But the only thing that meets the context of what Americans are afraid of for fear of their lives is the COVID virus. It is really small, but not invisible. The point is, that the danger is quite real, something that I think the word “invisible” obscures. The fear is a justified response to deadly danger.

On the other hand, fear can lead to overreaction. I will think as time goes on more measured responses will be found sufficient. But in no cases do we need droves of people anywhere.

The lack of concern for peoples souls is troubling. We just need to pray more.

Am I right in thinking that you recently described yourself as an atheist?

“Just as we are able to purchase food and medicine, while taking care not to spread the coronavirus in the process, so also we must be able to pray in our churches and chapels, receive the Sacraments, and engage in acts of public prayer and devotion, so that we know God’s closeness to us and remain close to Him, fittingly calling upon His help. Without the help of God, we are indeed lost.”

“Private revelation does not trump the lawful commands of those set over you such as your Bishops.”

So in reality you are unable to state whether the commands of bishops are lawful commands or in fact whether they are set over anyone anyway ?

Non sequitur. One can say if something is lawful according to the Church even if they are not a member. One can also read and understand the rules that the Church lays down regarding private revelation even if one is not a member.

I think you mean “offer an opinion”

Who said that?

This is the 2nd time reading this, and second time asking this question.

What is his recommendation for being able to practice social distancing and in general prevent the spread?

I hope he isn’t recommending that it be a good idea for large groups to be in close proximity to each other?!!?

I totally agree! Our Lady of Fatima told the little children. Don’t lose heart. I will never forsake you. My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the way that will lead you to God. Pray your rosary every day. God bless!

Yes I agree! When those in authority command lawfully then we are required to obey. However, I am sure you are aware of instances when those in authority have commanded their subordinates to do things which were unlawful…? The Catholic faith is “faith
guided by reason” not faith guided by blind obedience. “The blind lead the blind and both fall into the pit.”
For us who’ve grown up obedient to the Church, whose lead do you suggest we follow regarding your advice to disobey? Do we all just make up our own mind?

I’m confused? Where did I ever state disobey?

What did you mean to say here…

“When those in authority command lawfully then we are required to obey. However, I am sure you are aware of instances when those in authority have commanded their subordinates to do things which were unlawful”

You’d said “churches should be open and people should be going to communion in droves” to which JharekC responded Catholics are obliged to follow the lawful commands of our Bishops.

Are you saying that suspending Church and Holy Communion is lawful or not?

I think that is the question that needs to be explored. Just because someone is in authority does not mean to say that person is always right. We should study the laws of our faith and understand what is happening around us before we just jump to the conclusion
that this suspension is even a lawful order of our superiors.

Those that have doubts should do so, as should all that have some area of disagreement with the church. It is how we develop our conscience.

For consistency, those that have doubts should respect that process for others who doubt Church teaching on any issue. Abortion. Contraception. Personally I don’t think the starting point should be doubt the Church and go from there.

The bishops should have the priests that are willing organize lay help and find safe ways to get the sacraments to the people. This shutting off of sacraments when we can still do many other things supposedly safely (alcohol, tobacco, and abortions to name a few) is a reach by state and an unreasonable capitulation by the bishops. Are the sacraments signs that effect what they signify or not? This is our oppurtunity to evangelize, to show that we really believe what we say we believe. Instead, we sit silently at home and even speak out against those who suggest this is a mistake.

It is a very sad state that the church is in today 😦.
