Discordianism

Eh, kids should not be Discordian. It’s kind of something you need to discover as you grow up. My mom had rules, and consequences for breaking them, so it was kind of a no brainer of what I should do. As I got older, and still, there are rules, but I don’t have as much structure and get to discover myself more as a person by exploring all kinds of things, especially where faith is concerned. It’s actually a lot about maturity, and children are not mature enough to handle this way of thinking.

*Edit: I don’t say need as in everyone needs to be Discordian, but need as in you need to be an adult to be able to fully think and reason.
Sounds like trying to impose order on the process to me. What’s that word ā€œshouldā€ doing in there?

LOL…I want chaos, but here are some guidelines and blueprints for it! šŸ˜› Maybe this discordian thing is more like a controlled demolition of an old high-rise

I’m old-school. The only people who should have tattoos are marines on the inner forearm and hell’s angels. The only people who should have piercings are Hindus in India and primitive tribes in the bush of Africa with plates in their lipā€¦šŸ˜ƒ I don’t like looking at people who have arms that look like a Marvel comic book. And this is coming from a big Marvel fan…
I agree I have seen a lot of parents who let their kids do whatever. My mom scares me still, and I’m almost 21. She never laid a hand on me, but she scared me. I was rarely misbehaved as a kid. It’s like the parents who bring a stroller to a rated R movie and their kids are crying or running all over the place. My dad, when he was able to speak, always taught me ā€œYou can’t always get what you wantā€(Yes, the Rolling Stones! We played that song at his funeral outside the church as the casket was leaving), and didn’t spoil me. I was the anti-thesis of an only child. My mom always read to me as a kid, it really helped me out, because we spent time together and I learned something šŸ™‚ I didn’t have the whole white-picket-fence thing, but I was well adjusted for losing my dad at 9, and watching him deteriorate my whole life. Granted, I’m a bit of a ā€œGothā€ kid with tattoos and facial piercings with multicolored hair, but I’m a good person most of the time. Plus I’m really close with my family, so it helps a lot. I feel bad for the evangelical’s child, some of them can be really harsh and scary. There is a fine line between a good parent and an overbearing one.

LOL. I am a big Marvel fan myself. I only have 1 so far, and I am getting more in covered places. As for piercings, I like the way they look, so I’ll keep them until I get a real job, then I’m taking them out. I’m not getting anymore though, I only have 3 piercings, so it’s not too bad. I’ve seen people who are a lot worse.

I’m a clean slate, an empty canvas and I’m stayin’ that way! I’ll express myself with my mouth, guitar, writing, and Giants hat lol…

LOL Giants? New York I take it. I’m a Philly girl myself. I’m not a sports person, really. I was always the more artistic person. I do like playing hockey sometimes, and watching it, but usually I’m not a sports person. I write a lot, and sing. Tattoo’s are cool though, my mom actually got one after my dad passed. Faith, Hope, and Love, in Chinese around her ankle. I got the Ankh on my wrist, and she’s getting a Celtic cross with knots around her wrist. Also, this is a weird question, but where can I post something about struggling with faith? My mom’s having a hard time right now, and I want to get some advice for her, and she herself isn’t a forum person because she is bad with writing and afraid to post on a site.

The problem is, I was joking!
LOL. Well it’s not necessarily destroying organized religion, but a way to try to build for ourselves a new way of looking at Faith, God, ect.

Edit: in my last post I thought you might be from NY, and then I looked at you’re location. So you’re from Cali, lol. Oops:o

Come on now, girl, SAN FRANCISCO GIANTS baseball šŸ˜› I’m NOT a NY Giants football fan, baseball I’m talkin’…For football it’s either Niners or Chargers. I respect the Phillies, though. Great team, great history, I was pulling for them against those scumbag Yankees!

Oops! I don’t know sports teams that well. The Phillies are good, when your not trying to get downtown to your favorite club right after they win the Championship. Good lord, traffic was a mess! Baseball is more fun to play than to watch for me. And I have sung the National Anthem at the Phillies games for years until I was in college. Like I said, I’m not a sports person, though I do love hockey. I’m more of an art geek myself. One of those art kids who wore all black and drew in HS, then actually bought colors and started writing instead. I was the weird kid LOL.

Eris, your religion reminds me of the Sith. I’m not saying this as an insult but making a parallel:
The Sith believed that conflict was the only true test of one’s ability, and so emphasized its importance. It was their belief that conflict challenged both individuals and civilizations, and so forced them to grow and evolve. They believed that the avoidance of conflict–like the pacifist teachings of the Jedi–resulted in stagnation and decline.
Another purpose served by conflict was the elevation of the strong and the death of the weak. By encouraging strife, the strong were able to exercise their power while the weak were weeded from the ranks of the Sith. A core tenet to Sith philosophy was self-reliance and the idea that an individual only deserved what they were strong enough to take. Likewise, morality was treated as an obstacle to be overcome, as it got in the way of a Sith’s ability to recognize and seize opportunities for advancement and self-empowerment.

The general humor reminds me of the Dada movement, also known for its anarchy as well.

Why Eris and not Shiva, the Destroyer? Or is it a God/Godness by any other name?

Probably for a lot of reasons, mainly because Eris is Female and Shiva is male (Correct me if I am wrong), therefor making it the opposite of other male-headed pantheons and religions. Also, Eris is one of the more looked down upon Gods because of the decibel with the Trojan war. She was not highly worshiped, and no one really liked her. She wasn’t exactly a destructive god either, at least not in the same way. She was more mischievous than anything else.

Ah, Siths. I don’t know as much about Star Wars, because I haven’t seen it in years. Discordianism is similar, but also doesn’t have the emphasis on ā€œSurvival of the Fittestā€. Anyone can become a Discordian, and they are not exclusive. Morality isn’t an obstacle so much as more personalized. It’s also not cut-throat like Siths, and there is no hierarchy.

Trickster deities work best via humor, I do believe you got touched by the goddess there my friend.

You know by now the Sith should be going ā€œHe lose everytime to the Jedi maybe we need to rethink a few thingsā€¦ā€

Also it was Eris that spread it not Shiva or someone else šŸ˜›

Yep you outed me, I secretly belong to a witch coven, have an astaroth bed spread, belong to the Anton La Vey podcast club, and wear goat masks while I drink the blood of live yacks. LOL…Don’t worry, no pagan goddesses with this boy šŸ˜›

The Sith are much too disciplined to be Discordians, or virtually any stripe of pagan. My bet would be Calvinist, Wahabbist Muslim or Opus Dei.

I just committed three counts of blasphemy in Ireland. That’s $75,000 (pounds?) worth of fines. Ooops.

The Sith couldn’t be Discordians because there can only be two Sith at once: an apprentice and a master. Not enough numbers for donations and to build a meaningful organization. Only good for secretly taking over the Senate and overthrowing the Old Republic and Jedi Council. The Sith would have no trouble eliminating the Calvinists or Muslims but Opus Dei, those guys are mean suckers! lol
