The title of the thread is “Pope Slaps Free”, I’m not sure that statement even makes sense. But the moderator can change it if they think it’s necessary.

The Holy father is human after all, we all make mistakes but he has apologized and has probably already asked God for forgiveness.

Awkward yes.

The woman was certainly pushy but, of course, the Holy Father has to know he is an inspiration to millions and people are going to get touchy with him.

Everyone needs to zoom in on the hands of all in the vicinity and watch the woman to our right of the petite woman. A much larger hand that does not match, in color or size, the visible hand of the petite woman who appeared to reach for Pope Francis, is causing an indentation in his wrist, pressing down where tender tissues, tendons, and nerves are located. Then look at the pain etched on Pope Francis’ face. Someone was deliberately hurting him. This was planned. You cannot accidentally grip someone in that fashion.

Until I zoomed in and saw the pressure being applied to his wrist nerves and tendons, I’d wondered how the petite woman had been able to jerk him toward her. The answer is that she didn’t do it. The “person” to her left (our right) is likely the owner of the large hand. I repeat: I think that this was planned, and no accident.

Hopefully there will be no hard feelings either way. He did right by apologizing for slapping her hand, but I could also understand the quick response due to the pain and discomfort. I think security should be a little more assertive in the future.

I’m glad I zoomed in and hit pause. The taller woman with the fur hood actually fished Pope Francis in. Then the small Asian woman anchored him.
I have no doubt it hurt and it obviously threw him off balance.
It was disrespectful of those women to grab like that. I have no doubt he was simply protecting himself.
His apology is generous.

He is indeed…seeing a World Leader acknowledge an indisgreaton (and, I might add, in my opinion, and understandable) apologize is refreshing…

Two different ball games. I and many many others actually get a kick out the slug/hits that nameless guy makes. You can talk about that on your own thread. IMO Pope Francis’ apology was generous but not necessary.

That’s a good observation, if I had happened to have been there, I would have observed the Holy Father is basically greeting all the children… not us adults and kind of not expected anything myself from him. I’m still not sure of the exact circumstances, all of the people are behind a fence. I understand this was at the Vatican.

Did you notice how Pope Francis’s skin is creased above the indentation? How far into our own wrists must we dig in order to create a similar appearance? Why is the culprit wearing a hood? Does that hand look like a woman’s hand? I think the hoodie person should have been arrested. You nor I would reach to pull someone forward by curling our fingertips into their flesh, let alone with that kind of pressure. I’m appalled.

I posted this in the other thread, a good video, maybe a bit longer than the usual clip they are showing.

I will add on something new, if I were on the Pope’s security detail, I’d look at this video a bit closer. I"m sure all of the people behind the fence are screened for dangerous weapons. My own opinion is the woman who really grabbed him did nothing wrong except probably had a lot of enthusiasm or something. She didn’t mean for this to happen. I said this more in detail in the other thread. I feel sorry for her.

Everybody, please zoom in on the individuals to the far left of the screen. Several times, watch that sequence of events, and focus upon the extended wrist of Pope Francis. To quote a Christmas song, “Do you see what I see?”

I couldn’t understand how the petite little woman on our far left was able to literally jerk him around and toward her. She didn’t.

Look at the color and size of that hand that grabs Pope Francis—way bigger than the petite woman’s hand. That hand held onto the Pope’s wrist with fingers curled into the Pope’s tender wrist tissues, nerves, and tendons, deeply enough to cause his skin to have creases in it above where grasped, deliberately causing pain. Try that maneuver on yourself. What occurred was no accident. That was deliberate and maintained, and intended to inflict damage. The owner of that hand needs to be arrested for assault.

The petite woman probably was unaware of what the person to her left (our right) was doing.

Why was the hand’s owner wearing a hood? Notice the haircut.

There wasn’t anything accidental about what happened.

The Pope has apologized. He’s only human and sometimes makes mistakes. But he is essentially a good, holy, and humble man.

Wow! I hadn’t read about this account. Are you certain? If so, the Pope’s reaction was completely justified.

I think you are mistaken. After rewatching the video, the hand clearly belongs to the woman.

Funny, I re-watched the video in slow motion and it seemed to me that the taller woman beside the Asian woman grasped him and kind of led his hand to the Asian woman who then clasped his hand.

Well yes, he has, but he hadn’t when I posted, and it doesn’t change the fact that he reacted in the way he did.
