That’s it? That’s all ya got?

I’m afraid you’ll have to do a lot better if you’re going to bring the whole Catholic Church crumbling down around us.

(edited by moderator)

I guess we’ll see. 😃

BTW…have you got any substantive responses to my post?

Bingo in the Lord’s house? Oh my gosh! Say it isn’t so!

Hmmm:rolleyes:…anyone ever have bingo in the church? Where I come from, it is usually a fund raising opportunity held in a church hall or school gymnasium.

Kind of like those darned volunteer firefighters who are always having the evil bingo fund raisers in the fire truck’s house. And the fire fighters know what it is like to endure the flames of the other world…:tsktsk:They too should know better.😉

Now, around here, it’s the VFW that runs all the Bingo!! The volunteer firefighters have something called “Feather Parties”!! Mind you, I have no idea what a Feather Party is, but it sounds like something that they probably did in:bigyikes: ancient Babylon!! I think they get http://bestsmileys.com/drinking/2.gif & raffle off

or something.

I have to say I have my misgivings about bingo and more so the monthly prize draw:(

Bingo is just like alcohol or food … fine when done responsibly and moderately (ie when you don’t gamble away money you need for food or bills or anything). In such instances it’s essentially a donation to the support of the church anyways - and I certainly can’t think of any better cause.

It doesn’t matter if you go to the Catholic Church, the Baptist Church, The Mormon Church or any of the other many Christian denominations.
Hmm, Mormons (and JWs) have some decidedly unchristian beliefs… that’s why Mormons must be rebaptized before converting to Catholicism, whereas most members of Protestant and Orthodox churches may convert to Catholicism without being rebaptized… but that’s a topic for another thread.

I understand that my original post of “Do all Catholics go to Hell” created an stir, but who here can be offended? As a newbie I wanted attention.
Who here can be offended? Hmmm, try every Catholic. If you wanted attention there are plenty of other ways to gain it without viciously trashing our faith.
Does anyone think I believe all Catholics go to hell?
If you don’t, you gave a very good impression of someone who does. Being that none of us knows you in person as far as I’m aware, that impression is all we have to go on.

If your initial post doesn’t represent your beliefs accurately then that, sir (or madam), makes you a lowdown rotten liar. And I’ve read enough of my Bible to know what it has to say about liars :tsktsk:
And by the way, I am very impressed by most of your reactions, your faith is apparent as well as admirable.
Well, you know our lives revolve around impressing you and aren’t complete unless you think well of us  so thanks.

This old propaganda still makes the rounds. Very hard to root out.

Does the basement of a Catholic church count? I use to play Bingo in a church near my house.

I leave this to my Catholic Apologists. Oh, in my 31 yrs as a Catholic I have not seen in any Catholic Church that plays bingo. Those are played in retirement home. Unless I miss a memo that tells me a retirement home is a church…

Oh yes, Catholics who die in mortal sin go to hell. Catholics who die in venial sin go to purgatory, and Catholics who die in the state of grace go to heaven.

We Catholics also believe that we must bear our crosses. We don’t believe that we let others bear our crosses for us. Jesus said, “Take up your cross, and follow me.” This means you must suffer just as the Lord Jesus Christ suffer for our sins, and offer our own suffering to God.

No where does it say that merely accepting Jesus into our heart and sit on our backs on Sunday night and watch football and do nothing can save us. Believing is not enough. Even the Devil believes in God and tremble. We must have faith and work on them. Christianity is a lazy man’s religion which is practiced by the Protestantism (note Protestantism not Protestants) which focuses on faith alone. We must earn our salvation by faith through works and by the grace of God.

Unfortunately I do not belong or attend ANY church. I understand that my original post of “Do all Catholics go to Hell” created an stir, but who here can be offended? As a newbie I wanted attention. Does anyone think I believe all Catholics go to hell?

I apologize to all I may have offended, but please don’t think I’m done. I want more and am prepared to learn and argue! (Edited by Moderator)

Just to clarify, Manny, those who die in only venial sin are in the state of Grace, but they need to be purified a little in Purgatory and then they go to Heaven just like everyone else. Those who die having attained perfect union with God’s will go straight to Heaven.
Christianity is a lazy man’s religion which is practiced by the Protestantism (note Protestantism not Protestants) which focuses on faith alone. We must earn our salvation by faith through works and by the grace of God.
One more clarification. We cannot earn our salvation at all. We can merit it, which is different, but all our merit comes completely by Grace. We are saved by Grace alone, and all of our good works are only from that Grace - we cannot earn Grace.

If a Catholic died in the state of sancifying grace he goes to heaven. That is pretty clear in the CCC. Yes, if he is in venial sins, his sins must be purged from any sin that is not mortal.

I stand corrected. I like to make a typo graphical error I wrote in the other post. Christian is a lazy man’s religion I meant it is not a lazy man’s religion.

Right. People who die in Sanctifying Grace goto Heaven (sometimes after a stop in Purgatory), and those that die in mortal sin go to Hell. Venial sins do not make a person lose the state of Grace, that’s all I was clarifying.

Unfortunately I do not belong or attend ANY church.
1 Tim 3:15 "But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

What about this Church? What is your pillar and foundation of Truth?
I just don’t understand how a Catholic, American or not is able to maintain their REALITY while worshiping Satan.
Prove how any of our worship in prayers, liturgies, devotions, etc. are directed to satan.
If the Bible is the book Christianity is based on,
It’s not. Show us where in scripture it makes that claim.
then Catholics are definately NOT Christians, yet they believe that they are???
Not by your convoluted definition, no.
If you are a Catholic, and do not read your Bible, then you are not a Christian.
Actually our masses have a great deal of scripture readings.
But Let’s go deeper into reality.
K.
If you DO read your bible, then you absolutely Cannot be a true Catholic. Why? Because the Catholic Religion performs many Rituals that are stated in the Bible by name as Sin, one specifically as an abomination; they are as follows:
This is your opinion. On what authority makes your interpretations correct?
  1. Prayer to Mary, the Pope, Saints and anyone NOT named Jesus Christ
Praying for the dead:

2 Mac 12:44,46 “(For if he had not hoped that they that were slain should rise again, it would have seemed superfluous and vain to pray for the dead,) … It is therefore a holy and wholesome thought to pray for the dead, that they may be loosed from sins.”

Intercesison of saints:

Rev 8:3-4 “And another angel came, and stood before the altar, having a golden censer; and there was given to him much incense, that he should offer of the prayers of all saints upon the golden altar, which is before the throne of God. And the smoke of the incense of the prayers of the saints ascended up before God from the hand of the angel.”
  1. The Beloved crusifix (abomination)
Gal 3:1 O senseless Galatians, who hath bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ hath been set forth, crucified among you?

Where were the galatians at the crucufixion?
  1. Bingo (sorry, it’s funny, but a sin in the lord’s house)
Absurd.
  1. Confession
Joh 20:23 “Whose sins you shall forgive, they are forgiven them; and whose sins you shall retain, they are retained.”

Ordained priests have the same power to forgive sins just as the apostles did.
  1. Calling a priest FATHER
the “Call no man your father” argument?

It’s obvious there is an earthly sense and a spiritual sense to this. If we took it as it says, then we cannot call our own biological fathers “father.” It’s rediculous.
And you know what, obviously not all priests are gay, but before you allow a Catholic give ANY justification for a Gay Priest, remember the Bible calls Homosexuality a Sin (Actually, it is an abomination for man to lie with man. Not Mine, the Lords, do not judge me)
Last I checked openly gay men were not allowed in the pristhood.
So before we make our children sin any more by repeating the Chant known as the “Hail MARY” 20 times for her sins,
Ah yes, the good ol’ “vain repetition” argument. First you must prove these prayers are in vain in the first place. There is nothing wrong with repeating heartfelt prayers. You do not know another man’s heart to know if his prayers are in vain or not.

You talk a big game about “reality” yet you obviously do not know the reality of Catholicism.

WOW

is this where you question us more on the real and true issues you have with the Catholic Church or is this thread designed to ask you questions about your church, oh wait you do not have a church. Since you do not have a church and have such strong feelings againts us Catholics, I assume you adopted your belief from one of the many anti cathoic websites on the world wide web. I aso assume that since you do not belong to any particular church that you pull in just the doctrines that make you feel good.

Now I am a Catholic and sometimes I come across a teaching that is hard for me to understand or believe in, sometimes my actions result in walking away from either that particular comandment or teaching of the Church but I alwats have the Church and God to fall back on when I am ready. When you in time of weakness or lack of faith or even lack of charity realize you need to come home, since you have no official church how do you go about this, we catholics have the sacrament of pennance that helps us restore the grace that we have lost through our own actions and desires which were not of God but from within our own mortal self therefore being a mortal sin, that can not be stored on our own.

Dear Bablyon,
your initial post was rather superficial in alot of ways- you can’t summarize Christianity to what appears to us to make sence. In fact, it is so much deeper than that. A good little book for you to pick up and read is “crossing the threshold of hope”. It was written by Pope John Paul II, (actually it is the result of an interview with him). In the book, many questions about the true essence of Catholicism are answered, and from the Pope Himself, which means there can be no doubt of the source, and no Nil Upstat (I know I spelled that wrong) needed. I 'd recomend you get it and read it. The question of what it really means to save is answered - and it is in fact to liberate ourselves from evil - to be part of the Goodness which is God. You can summarize Catholicism by what you see on the surface, so much is a mystery. The Church is at the service of the mystery of salvation - which is very mystical - to JOIN with God - this what the sacraments are about. So many people don’t get this - I am only just realizing it, after knowing my faith for years- I think it takes lifetime to truly know God for God to say I truly knew you. Explore it, make this a journey and along the way be sure not to condemn - but rather seek the truth - without making any judgements upon what you don’t (yet) fully understand. Make your walk with God a personal journey- not of ideas to be judged and debated, but of discoveries, with an OPEN mind and a humble heart. This will lead you to the fullness of the faith - and the unity that we have as Catholics.
