Do Catholics really think abortion is the same as murder?

Hello,

I am a catholic and am very pro life.

When you look at the teaching of our church, abortion is the same thing as murder.

Why is it that we don’t protest by the millions about abortion. Is it that we catholics see abortion as bad, but not as bad as a cold blooded murder? I see pro life protests here and there outside hospitals and outside planned parenthoods, but would we be doing simple protests if instead of pregnant women going in there for abortions, they instead took 5 year old kids in to put them down?

I have a feeling we’d be going crazy if there were 5 year old kids being taken into planned parenthoods and being killed. So why don’t we do the same for abortions?

1 out of every 4 American women has had an abortion. That includes Catholics as well as all other religions. There is a lot of shame and fear of judgment in those secrets.

It’s also unpleasant to deal with these subjects. To get up off the pew and actually take a stand, and DO something about your convictions. It’s easy to clap when the yearly anniversary of Roe v. Wade is discussed at church, and then walk out and do nothing.

Many Catholics think that artificial contraception is just fine and that it is the Church that needs to change with the times. Since that mentality is anti-Catholic, and pro-human decision, abortion goes along with it, because when the contraception fails, you have a problem on your hands. Contraception = unmarried sex, and selfish sex, not connected to babies.

And most priests do not want to alienate their congregation by speaking out forcefully about abortion. Those marginal or dissenting Catholics might walk out and take their wallets with them, and they wouldn’t be happy as they went. There is fear of public reprisal as well as harassment from the federal government if voting for life is discussed from the pulpit.

Instead of wondering why others don’t, are you and your family praying in front of a Planned Parenthood or other abortion provider?

I have been thinking of getting involved myself, but I guess I am just not sold on any of the protests accomplishing anything.

I understand where you’re coming from with the priests being afraid…I think that’s the case. But what about those of us who already believe (or say) abortion=murder.

How come those peaceful protesters don’t go that extra step to intervene…since they say that murder is actually happening?

A friend of mine mentioned this point to me the other day and he has me thinking. He basically said that even those who are most against abortion don’t actually believe it is the same as gunning down a small kid, or else they would act the same way that people do when a small child is murdered.

Abortion is a PERFECT FIT for God’s 4,000 year Old Fifth Commandment:

Thou SHALT NOT KILL!

WHY “we aren’t going crazy” is NOT because Informed and fully practicing Catholics DON"T care; Don’t get involved. See the above sites.

Satan is having a field day: MANY, very many who CHOOSE to call themselves “Catholic” or “Christian” CHOOSE TO THINK POLITICAL PARTY, RACE OR SOME OTHER FAR, FAR, LESS RELEVANT ISSUE CAN AND SOMEHOW DOES OVERRIDE GODS COMMANDMENT AND THE EVIDENT TEACHINGS OF GOD; THE POPES , THE BISHOPS AND THE CATHOLIC CHURCH

God will HOLD THEM GUILTY of Mortal sins!

To claim “that catholics do not care enough” is a VERY incorrect statement.🤷

It’s the MANY calling themselves “catholic” BUT not living the Life of One by example; by Obedience, that you speak of and they NEED OUR PRAYERS!

Abortion is cold blooded murder. There are millions of people against abortion, I think it’s just that it’s hard to know what you do or how to go about fighting it.

Because we have to do things in the proper way, not being greatly disturbed, trusting in God, and being “prudent like snakes while being candid like doves”.

“Vengeance is mine”, says the Lord. We are only called to be lights in the world, and a light is meant to enlighten, not to burn.

But there are plenty of things that need to be done and are not being done. We can do more. Truly, we could achieve everything by prayer only, but we need to work to protect the unborn from the legislative standpoint as well, and by educating the secular world on why we know that abortion=murder.

Many have acted as you suggest. They were arrested for sitting in front of abortion clinics. I think all of us are called to do different things for the pro-life movement. I volunteered at the Crisis Pregnancy Center. It was difficult, but a very rewarding experience! Our culture suffers from the K or K syndrome. KILL IT, OR KEEP IT! I suggested the 3rd option. The loving option of adoption. Most of my clients confess, they fear making an adoption plan because once the baby was born they might not be able to give them to a family. Then I say, “So your worse fear is that you will fall so in love with your baby that you will want them to be in your life forever?” They usually laugh at this point, coming to realize it’s not a terrible thing to love someone so much you are willing to make changes to have them in your life.

I explain one of the great things about adoption, is you can change your mind. Abortion is final. I was able to share that a couple million couples each year can not find a baby to adopt. Your baby, is not a problem, but the answer to some ones prayers! I gave my clients work sheets which they could fill in. One was a parenting plan, the other an adoption plan. They could write out both and compare them to discover the best option for their baby. After all that is what a good loving parent does. Ask what is best for my baby, and myself.

We also supplied free maternity clothes, baby clothing, cribs, formula, diapers, and parenting classes. We also had many resources in our community for women, and adoption agencies they could check out.

Maybe if you were to hear about some of the results that praying in front of these clinics
has produced?
A father on his way to take his daughter for an abortion saw the kids praying (they were
wearing “PRO LIFE” t-shirts) and kept going. (He was planning to return when the kids
were gone.) He and his daughter never made it back to the clinic. The following year
he was going back by the clinic and let it be known that he was the grandfather of
twin grandchildren who were the light of his life. He thanked the group.
Some of the saved babies will not be known on this earth, but maybe when we get to
heaven??
It is difficult to say that people should be “tougher” because the mothers are sometimes
very confused and have been made to believe all sorts of things. Even their parents who
should better. Compassion is key and that is what turns someone away from
murdering their baby. On college campuses, maybe seeing pictures of abortion will turn
others. It is obvious that the pro-abortion crowd don’t want these pictures seen as they
try to destroy these booths and do what they can to mock and belittle the people manning
the booths. So there are different ways of trying to help people see the light and we can
just keep plugging away until the truth is known.

Please see this story.

Protests do work.

Right after Roe v. Wade was passed, the pro-life movement’s first line of opposition was to go to the clinics and try to close the doors. People would chain themselves to the doors, or go inside and chain themselves to the operating tables. They’d disturb the flow of the clinic, and indeed, no abortions would be done. That day. The protestors went to jail, and abortions resumed the NEXT day. The public came down on the side of the abortion providers, and the protest was ineffective in changing hearts and minds. There were lots of angry protests, with people screaming and signs that showed aborted babies. Of course emotions ran very high, on both sides.

The abortion industry still uses those long-ago days as a weapon against pro-lifers, even though we have long since given up invading the clinic and chaining ourselves to the tables. They call us “terrorists,” although most groups now merely go to the clinic and pray, and try to reach the mothers and fathers with literature and other help. There are still a few holdouts from the old days who will show up and shout and have the gory signs. They don’t help; they set us back with every appearance. But THEY think they are being warriors. RESULTS are what we look at.

There is a place for the signs and questions, and the Center for Bio-Ethical Reform is a group that takes large displays onto college campuses, to encourage students to see abortion as genocide. Genocide Awareness Project This can be very controversial depending upon the campus, but I believe it is the right approach for that setting. NOT in front of the abortion clinic.

Come down to Planned Parenthood and pray with us during 40 Days for Life! Just do it!

You ask a very good question indeed.
Of course every year in Washington there is a HUGE pro-life rally and march that receives virtually ZERO media attention no matter how many thousands attend…
I believe there is another large on every year on the left coast…As well as smaller rallies in other cities. Most all of which are studiously ignored by the national media.

But -

As I say you do ask a very good question…I don’t have a very good answer…

Peace
James

Obviously many Catholics don’t see it that way. Many are pro-choice or apathetic. It’s sad that these people assert their Catholicism while at the same time are indifferent to or promote an “intrinsic evil”. I believe many Catholics are not really informed on the seriousness of abortion.

For the same reasons faithful Catholics don’t go hunting down serial killers. It isnt our job, its the government’s. And if the government is for death and murder, all we can do and all we have left to do is PRAY.

Yes, I agree. A true Catholic will care…has to care. And if they’re not doing anything to change our evil culture, that true Catholic’s conscience will never leave them alone. If someone were to say 1) they are Catholic, 2) they do nothing to fight abortion and 3) that their conscience is fine with that, I would question one or all of those “facts”. Those three concepts cannot truthfully exist together within the same person.

“They profess to know God, but by their deeds they deny Him, being detestable and disobedient and worthless for any good deed.” Titus 1:16

If that is your stance, it seems to me then you’d consider that most catholics, including priests, nuns, bishops and maybe even the pope are not really catholic. I don’t think most catholics do anything to stop abortions other than voting pro life.

Where would one begin to try to make a difference? I’m thinking maybe I should get involved somehow.

Well, they are not allowed to act. In any case, how do you treat those who are doing the deed? Kill them? Most of us are convinced that the majority of those who work for Planned Parenthood are simply misguided, not intent on doing evil, but wanting., on the contrary, to do a good thing. But you do have a point, and the bishops have been giving mixed signals for a long time by not standing up against policy makers who have legalized these actions.
