The Washington, D.C. Office of Human Rights confirmed that it is investigating allegations that Catholic University violated the human rights of Muslim students by not allowing them to form a Muslim student group and by not providing them rooms without Christian symbols for their daily prayers.

Easy answer…does it violate human rights…NO…this is just persecution. If you are so concerned about Human Rights, go look at the way Christains are treated in Egypt, China, Sudan, Somlia, Saudi Arabia, etc, etc, etc…it does not end.

Jesus was right when he used the word “hypocrits” to descripbe the Pharisess. Because so many gov’t officials are like them.

No, this is a private University and they can have what symbols they want in said university.

Human Rights!? Have we so lost our way that we have no clue what human rights are? Doing what ever you want when ever want does not constitute a Human Right, it is called being a brat.

The name of the school is CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY. Think a little about what that means before you apply.

These muslims shouldn’t have applied in the first place, but now that they had, they must live under the university. The university can’t be asked to change the identity, structure of the university for the whim of a small minority.

The crosses and crucifixes stay.

“These Muslims” haven’t filed any complaints. According to the news stories, it’s all coming from this lawyer who filed the suit. Not one Muslim has complained to the University, and there’s no record of anyone complaining to the lawyer.

Just stirring up trouble, that crazy lawyer.

No, it doesn’t violate any human rights.

Muslims didn’t file the complaint, some anti catholic professor from george washington u did. I saw him on Hannity tonight. He was blathering that Catholic U should have one room without crosses so the muslims could pray. But he wouldn’t answer if he was involved with CAIR or other org. such as the muslim brotherhood. I seriously doubt that he would be suing a muslim school for not allowing crucifixes for Catholic students.

The Mohammedans are not to blame.

Professor John F. Banzhaf III, who gladly takes up the mantle of “Radical Feminist,” is the source of all this uneasiness.

By the looks of his news feed, he also opposes single sex dorms. Apparently, he even forced Catholic University to justify them.

I pray that Catholic University will successfully and preferably quietly deal with the matter.

Actually, I wouldn’t see the big deal of having one room without crosses for the Muslim students to pray in. As long as it is just one room, what is the harm exactly?

That said, a lawsuit is silliness.

The person bringing the law suit is not a Muslim student. Another grand stand by a relativist. What about Catholic Rights? It is a Catholic University.

Should a Catholic University then provide a Menorah for the Jewish students, a Kwanzaa candle for Americans who happen to be black and practice the customs and traditions of Kwanzaa? If this is true, then I think public institutions should provide separate rooms for folks practicing different beliefs.

Isn’t this episode an intrusion of the secular into the religious? What happened to separation of church and state?

I agree the lawsuit is silliness, but sillier things have happened in a court of law. A cave in by the Catholic University, or forcing it to pay honor to various religions by providing areas of prayer for students of various religions will eventually result in the loss of identity of that Catholic University. This is how little deals turn into big deals. And this is a big deal. Another move against Catholic identity in the U.S. It’s called relativism.

But then we could call it the University of Universality of all religions, couldn’t we? 😊

The professor stated last night, when interviewed, that he had brought many lawsuits for “injustices”. This is what he does. IMO the school advertises by it’s name that it is a CATHOLIC school. If students are going to feign displeasure at the Catholic symbols they see there, they should not go there in the first place. But strangely, it is not students who are filing the suit, it is this radical professor.

“I regret very much that our Muslim students have been used as pawns in a manufactured controversy,” said John Garvey, president of Catholic University.

Garvey said in an Oct. 28 statement that the charges were “completely without foundation.”

The complaint against the university was filed by legal activist professor John Banzhaf, known in recent years for his multiple “fat lawsuits” against fast food restaurants, including McDonald’s and KFC.

A law professor at George Washington University’s Law School, Banzhaf teaches a unique “Legal Activism” course that has been dubbed “suing for credit.”

Students in the course “become public-interest lawyers by bringing their own legal actions.”

Banzhaf and his students have become well-known for their “hundreds of innovative public-interest legal actions.”

I am becoming more and more convinced that there is a force in this world that is trying to pit us all against one another - Jew against Christian, Muslim against Christian, Jew against Muslim, Right against Left, Poor against Rich, etc. As we all fight one another, our real foe will win. And we need to find out who that is. Satan can be very well organized.

As others have stated, the Muslims at the university have nothing to do with this. In fact, Muslims outside of the university have nothing to do with this. This is a lawyer who goes after every odd thing that he can come up with.

For those who do not konw it, The Catholic University of America (my alma mater) is a pontifical university. It’s chancellor is the local archbishop. It is not a private university as is Franciscan University or Notre Dame. Those are private Catholic universities.

However, the status of the university has nothing to do with this. The case here is very simple. The Office of Campus Ministry may have given the Muslims a room of their own to pray, if they had asked for it. The Student Union is very large and can accomodate them. They have not asked for it. They asked for an organization for Arabic students, which the university granted. To this organization belong Christian students as well. The organization celebrates Arabic culture. We know that Arabic and Muslim are not interchangeable. That would be as silly as saying that European and Catholic are interchangeable.

When I was a student at CUA the Iran crisis was in progress. There were many people who were hostile toward Iranians in the USA. I remember walking across the campus in my habit. Two Iranian students approached me and said, “Please pray for us. We’re afraid.” These girls were about 19 years old.

They felt safe at CUA, because they had a zero tolerance policy against bullying anyone for race, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, political differences and so forth. You could be expelled and the university reserved the right to press charges against you. On the other hand, the administration has said no to requests that are in conflict with the Catholic faith, such as gay student organization.

It has a long history as a place that exists to proclaim the Gospel, educate the common man, and protect those who are frightened. Like all institutions, there have been mistakes. However, targeting people is not one of them. I was there for 8 years. I’m very proud to say that I’m a graduate of The Catholic University of America, as are other faithful Catholics as Bishop Fulton Sheen and Cardinal Sean O’Malley and many other prominent Catholics.

Lol Isn’t it called the “**CATHOLIC **University”? What did they expect?!

Are you paying attention? The Muslims have nothing to do with this. The Catholic University and Franciscan universities have the largest number of Muslim and Jewish students of all private schools, because they are safe. These schools don’t tolerate bigotry.

It’s a lawyer who uses these cases to teach his law class over at George Washington University. He goes after everyone from KFC for serving non Kosher fried chicken to Catholic University for havimg the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception on its campus where Muslim students can see it. He actually said this.

What is crazy is that the state is actually investing tax money investigating this.

Yes, I was paying attention. Then what did that lawyer expect? I actually liked your last post.

The lawsuit isn’t asking that the room have anything in it, rather its asking that the room not have something(s) in it.

So for any other religion/faith the school wouldn’t be providing anything other than an empty room…
