Do illegal immigrants sin mortally by living a lie?

I am referring to being obligated to tell lies over and over again, to construct a fake identity of sorts, to keep from getting in legal trouble or getting deported.

Pretty hard to go wrong with Jeff Mirus. Smart man. I admire him immensely.

It’s a probable moral opinion, and in all likelihood within the bounds of orthodoxy. I wouldn’t reject it out of hand.

Every man hoes his own row. The sin of lying as an offense against the truth is in the Catechism. There is nothing in there about living a lie. Rather this is a sin one commits with the tongue. How this applies to immigrants is a question for each immigrant individually, just like how our own temptations come to us are something for us to deal with ourselves. Note that I did not say illegal immigrant. I consider the adjective irrelevant. Lying is such a universal temptation, applying to legal and illegal immigrants, citizens, doctors, lawyers and chiefs.
