I hope you are not saying that Jesus is Baha’u’'llah
Praise be to Thee, O Lord My God, for the wondrous revelations of Thy inscrutable decree and the manifold woes and trials Thou hast destined for Myself. At one time Thou didst deliver Me into the hands of Nimrod; at another Thou hast allowed Pharaoh’s rod to persecute Me. Thou, alone, canst estimate, through Thine all-encompassing knowledge and the operation of Thy Will, the incalculable afflictions I have suffered at their hands.

Again Thou didst cast Me into the prison-cell of the ungodly, for no reason except that I was moved to whisper into the ears of the well-favored denizens of Thy Kingdom an intimation of the vision with which Thou hadst, through Thy knowledge, inspired Me, and revealed to Me its meaning through the potency of Thy might.
And again Thou didst decree that I be beheaded by the sword of the infidel.
Again I was crucified for having unveiled to men’s eyes the hidden gems of Thy glorious unity, for having revealed to them the wondrous signs of Thy sovereign and everlasting power. (Gleanings from the Writings of Baha’u’llah, p. 88)

O Jews! If ye be intent on crucifying once again Jesus, the Spirit of God, put Me to death, for He hath once more, in My person, been made manifest unto you. Deal with Me as ye wish, for I have vowed to lay down My life in the path of God. I will fear no one, though the powers of earth and heaven be leagued against Me.

Followers of the Gospel! If ye cherish the desire to slay Muhammad, the Apostle of God, seize Me and put an end to My life, for I am He, and My Self is His Self. Do unto Me as ye like, for the deepest longing of Mine heart is to attain the presence of My Best-Beloved in His Kingdom of Glory. Such is the Divine decree, if ye know it.(GWB, p. 101)

The body of Jesus is gone; but the Spirit of Christ, the Ever-Living Lord, has returned in the Glory of the Everlasting Father. It is a SPIRITUAL reality. Even though He was banished to a fortress in Palestine in 1868, it is His Word that gives life and conquers death, in a new measure for humanity.
Is this another burden for Catholics to worry about? It shouldn’t be. What if you actually took the time to read the Tablet from Baha’u’llah to Pope Pius IX? (Then get back to me)

Why were EL, Eloh & Elohím Adonai also used, which are related to Alláh?
Jesus cried out ILAHI! ILAHI! --not Yahweh Yahweh!
Eloi, Eloi…lama sabactani.

Not Ilah, Ilah.

Jesus Christ is the Messiah - the One, True Lord and God of all. So, Ilah, Ilah all you want, it will not change the Divinity of Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ is the God of Jacob; the God of Abraham; the God of Isaac and the God of Mohammed.

I read it. It is flowing language that does nothing for me. Jesus is risen and alive today!! Jesus did not return as anyone else.

Jesus is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Why would we need anyone else?

:mad:I cannot believe you cannot see that** Iláí **is a more academic transliteration of Eloi. Don’t contend with me. You cannot defeat me as long as I am standing here with this sling in my hand, in front of this fortress-like Covenant. I will not put up with it. I am not in the mood for people claiming Christ and saddening Him. Now, listen up.

Nehushtan?
Numbers 21:8** And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live. 21:9 And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.**
Thirteen generations after King David, the Israelites were still worshipping Nehushtan!
2 **Kings 18:4 He (King Hezekiah) removed the high places, and brake the images, and cut down the groves, and brake in pieces the brazen serpent that Moses had made: for unto those days the children of Israel did burn incense to it: and he called it Nehushtan.**We still see the symbol of Nehushtan as the medical caduceus.

John 3:14-15 **And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.**We must conclude that whoever relies on Christ’s sacrifice alone, and ignores, denies or defies God’s new sacrifice, has repeated what the Israelites did with the bronze serpent that Moses had set up, when they clung to the worship of it. If we are so well informed about the injustice of the crucifixion, we should recognize when it happens again. And don’t think God doesn’t have more mysteries, more Redeeming, more sacrifices to require of His creation on countless worlds, --all thru the same Lordly Logos.
If you don’t want to talk straight, then take off. Otherwise, I will defend Muhammad and the Bab and Baha’u’llah on this thread forever.

:mad:You cannaot defeat me as long as I am in this fortress-like Covenant. I cannot believe you cannot see that** Iláí **is a more academic transliteration of Eloi.
Uh…“Ilahi” or whatever form you have up there (is “Ilai” a Persianized borrowing?) is not a “more academic” transliteration of “Eloi”. They’re two different languages. “Eloi” is Aramaic, “Ilahi” is Arabic. They are genetically related, but different languages.
Don’t contend with me. I will not put up with it. I am not in the mood for people claiming Christ and saddening Him.
As long as you continue to be demonstrably wrong, I’ll do what I see as necessary to correct you and encourage others to do the same. I have a degree in linguistics. I don’t need to kowtow to anyone’s religious sensibilities. Temper tantrums don’t change the fact that you’re wrong.

I hope i can be blander for you guys.
Just don’t expect me to just let you make hash of things either! 🙂
Degree or not, you’re quibbling about Aramaic, and proto-Arabic,
and just want to dethrone Allah. But hey, go for it.

I grew up with the Nicean creed too.
**And He will come again with Glory, to judge the living and the dead,
and of His kingdom there will be no end. **
I hope you realize the extent of this here or Hereafter.
It won’t matter to me if no one wants to hear me;
but it will matter to you when you don’t want to hear Him.

well… Muslims think they know who God is, and are sure that Allah is God.

yet God can not both have a Son begotten of the Holy Spirit, and also not have a Son and not beget anything. He can not say through One Man “love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” and then say through another man “kill your enemies and fight them as they fight you”.

most importantly, there is no one coming after Messiah. Messiah is it. no prophet, no new revelation, no new holy book as Jesus is the Word made Flesh, the fulfilment of the Torah, and the Living and Incarnate Word of God.

why would God then need to send a mere man hundreds of years after Christ preaching tennants exectly the opposite of what the Gospels tell and teach us? either God is a liar, or Mohammad is.

I disagree, and many more millions will come to disagree with you in the interest of world peace. Either there will be constant jihads and crusades, or we will behave and live in peace as we were intended…not thru coercion, but genuine fellowship, and i don’t see much loving fellowship in this thread. I will try to succinctly say why:

1.**Despise not prophesyings. **1 Thess.5:20
Don’t prohibit God from revealing whatever is His will. It will be better for you to be tolerant, and listen. See Islam as an “intermediate community” -a phrase the Qur’an itself uses, meaning it is not the last to form around a divine Revelation.
  1. One of the first things Baha’u’llah did when announcing His new Revelation was to abrogate military jihad, so divine consent is taken away from that method, even if it was allowed in Moses time, or Muhammad’s life, it got WAY out of hand. Rather we are told “It is better to be killed than to kill” which was the attitude of the Christian martyrs, who knew there was a better life beyond.
  2. Islam and Baha’i accept the Virgin Birth. Gabriel Announced it to Mary! Then Gabriel had more to teach and will have more again… It is imperitive that mankind worship One God alone, who begat the entire universe, and realize it was thru the word “Be” uttered by the supreme Will, that Jesus came into this world without a human father, not some corporeal mating with Mary. This is the jist of Islamic teaching. God is transcendent.
  3. The Quran is matchless, and could not have been devised by hundreds of men, let alone one without the aid of God. It has recently been discovered that there are a series of numerical coincidences that show this is a gift to mankind. A computer was used to correlate the numerical values assigned to each letter since ancient times, and it revealed that everything was based on the umber 19, which proves to Baha’is that the Quran was a sign pointing to the Babi-Baha’i Revlations, because they are based on 19 and it was not done with any computer, but thru innate, circumstances of history, and untaught intuition in the 19th century. For instance Baha’u’lah was exiled from Baghdad and it was time to say who He was, and this was 19 years after the Bab.
The calendar basd on the attributes of God such as Splendor, Glory, Light, Might, Grandeur, Power etc, has 19 months and 19 days (+ intercalaries) and the Bab and His 18 Letters, or disciples, constituted the first unit to believe in Baha’u’llah, followed by other units of believers numberig 19. You can dismiss all this, or you can listen up.
Don’t defy what has already taken place. Don’t attribute contradictions to God.
Seek the underlying unity and **“Obey God and obey His Apostle” **This applies to Moses in HIs day, Jesus in His day and Baha’u’llah now… Deny one Messenger, and you have denied them all. Do you really want to aproach the Throne and be told that “You never knew Me, I never knew you…”

Your crazy proselytizing is really loathsome and beyond tiring at this point, DavidMark. Enough already. Even your Muslim counterpart, Planten, occasionally takes a break.

1.The first verse (1:1), known as “Basmalah,” consists of 19 letters.
2. The Quran consists of 114 suras, which is …19 x 6.
3. The total number of verses in the Quran is 6346, or …19 x 334. Note that 6+3+4+6 =19. [6234 numbered verses & 112 un-numbered verses (Basmalahs) 6234+112 = 6346]
4. The Basmalah occurs 114 times, despite its conspicuous absence from Sura 9 (it occurs twice in Sura 27)
5. From the missing Basmalah of Sura 9 to the extra Basmalah of Sura 27, there are precisely…19 suras.
6. It follows that the total of the sura numbers from 9 to 27 (9+10+11+12+…+26+27) is 342, or …19 x 18.
7. (342) also equals the number of words between the two Basmalahs of Sura 27, and 342 = …19 x 18.
8. The famous first revelation (96:1-5) consists of …19 words.
9. This 19-worded first revelation consists of 76 letters …19 x 4.
10. Sura 96, first in the chronological sequence, consists of 19 verses.
11. This first chronological sura is placed atop the last …19 suras.
12. Sura 96 consists of 304 Arabic letters, and 304 equals 19 x 16.
13. The last revelation (Sura 110) consists of 19 words.
14. The first verse of the last revelation (110:1) consists of 19 letters.
15. 14 different Arabic letters, form 14 different sets of “Quranic Initials” (such as A.L.M. of 2:1), and prefix 29 suras. These numbers add up to 14+14+29 = 57 = …19 x 3.
16. The total of the 29 sura numbers where the Quranic Initials occur is 2+3+7+…+50+68 = 822, and 822+14 (14 sets of initials) equals 836, or … 19 x 44.
17. Between the first initialed sura (Sura 2) and the last initialed sura (Sura 68) there are 38 un-initialed suras 19 x 2.
18. Between the first and last initialed sura there are …19 sets of alternating “initialed” and “un-initialed” suras.
19. The Quran mentions 30 different numbers: Their sum is 162146, which equals 19x8534.

These are the Twin Trumpet-blasts (Qur’án 79).

DavidMark ~

in response to your points.
  1. there is no need for an intermediary period in revelation. according to Judeo-Christian understanding, Messiah is the final revelation of God in flesh as Saviour and King. He will one day put all enemies under His feet when He comes again. all Jews and Christians wait for Messiah, but none wait for a prophet to come in the mean time, ins pite of Muslim readings of John 14:16
  2. Jesus already abrogated military jihad and fighting for Christians with His words, examples, Person, and advent. why would God later allow people to kill eachother again, and the send a third person to say “ok, no more killing in God’s Name” when Jesus has already said as much 2,000 years ago?
  3. God is not so transcendent as to be utterly remote and unknowable as your faith claims. He can also come down and interact with men and women, which He did through the Messiah. Jesus’ Sonship is attested to and wonderfully explained in Luke 1, as well as in Jewish prophecy in the OT. Muslims do not have an answer for the question “if Yusef did not beget Isa (Jesus), and the fathering power of his conception came from Allah’s power (Ruh Quddus which many Quran translations render “holy power” or “Holy Spirit”), how then did Allah not beget Isa?” God is knowable personally. if one knows Messiah Jesus, one knows God.
  4. the Quran is certainly beautiful, matchless, vast in scope, and impressive. but that does not mean it is from God. i am not saying that Mohammad wrote it himself (at least not all parts) but whatever supernatural inspiration was behind it, i do not take it to be from God, or ultimately good. if Satan were to be so transparent as to be blatantly obviously evil and wicked in his ways, he would never fool anyone. he can appear as an angel of light and produce masterpieces of deception, to fool even the elect. but the fatal flaws of his plans are there, and noticable if one knows where to look and what to examine and test.
God bless you, DavidMark.

in addition, you may be interested in the following link, detailing the
pre-Islamic Jewish, Christian, pagan, and heretical texts whose contents (often verbatim) are clearly replicated in the pages of the Quran.

Sources of the Quran

The Catechism of the Catholic Church (section 841) mentions that Islam does acknowledge the one True God. They call Him Allah. We call Him Father. Is it just semantics?

So couldn’t a Catholic, in good conscious, agree that there, “Is only one God and His name is Allah?” (that’s what muslims pray 5 times a day, isn’t it? of course, we couldn’t acknowledge that Mohommed is his profit (which is the other part of their prayer)

Can there ever be peace between Catholics and Muslims? I know there’s a history of hatred, and war but is peace possible? Should we pray for that or are muslims are sworn enemies and there’s nothing we can do about it? I hear both sides from various Catholic sources and I dont’ know what to believe. I’d like to think that there can be peace, but muslim-run countries dont’ allow religious freedom and they persecute Christians. What’s the answer?

Hi Grace, I see your name is Singh. Are you from or married into Sikh background?
I know Guru Nanak was fed up with the tension between Muslim and Hindu, and forged a formidable compromise, which gained a reputation throughout Asia. The first Sikh Baha’i was Pritam Singh (1881-1959)

Iwest ~

i am not a Catholic and so can’t really comment on what the Church teaches, but here is my take…

Allah is not God the Father Almighty. Muslims do worship and revere one god whom they associate with the God of the Bible, and whom they claim created and sustains the universe, and all life. so their faith is certainly monotheistic.

yet they claim that this god, Allah, has no son, does not beget, consideres the doctrine of the trinity and the worship of Jesus to be both blasphemous and sinful, and the Quran calls Allah’s curses upon Christians who claim that Jesus is God’s Son. Muslims also deny the crucifixion and resurrection of our Lord.

here are some verses from the Quran :

**Indeed, the truth deny they who say, “Behold, God is the third of a trinity” - seeing that there is no deity whatever save the One God. And unless they desist from this their assertion, grievous suffering is bound to befall such of them as are bent on denying the truth. (5:73)

O followers of the Gospel! Do not overstep the bounds [of truth] in your religious beliefs, and do not say of God anything but the truth. The Christ Jesus, son of Mary, was but God’s Apostle - His promise which He had conveyed unto Mary - and a soul created by Him. Believe, then, in God and His apostles, and do not say, “trinity”. Desist for your own good… (4:171)

The Jews call Ezra a son of God, and the Christians call Christ the son of God. That is a saying from their mouth; (in this) they but imitate what the unbelievers of old used to say. God’s curse be on them! How they are deluded away from the Truth! (9:30)**

so clearly Allah (above translated as “God”) can not be the God we call Abba, Father, the One True God who made the heavens and the earth, and who sent His Son Jesus to die for our sins. the God of the Bible is very different from the Allah of the Quran.

Arab Christians and Christians in Islamic lands do call God “Allah”, but only for linguistic or cultural reasons.

DavidMark,

Is it your contention that the actual Spirit of God has reincarnated (or however you want to phrase it) into each prophet throughout time, i.e. Moses was God and when he died, God’s spirit went back to Heaven and then came back through Jesus and when Jesus was crucified God’s Spirit went back to Heaven (and Jesus was physically buried ???) and then God came back as Muhammad, and when Muhammad died God went to back to Heaven and then came back as Bab and then Bahalluh? Am I understanding your beliefs correctly?

(Please note that I do realize I did not include each and every prophet, but I think you can understand the gist of what I am asking.)

Thank you for quoting Qur’anic verses on Thanksgiving!
Could it not be that Christians went to some extremes and the same Gabriel that brought the Annunciation of the Word to Virgin Mary also brought the Recitation of the Word to an illiterate Arab. Which is the greater miracle? Neither. Jesus = Word. Qur’an = Word Both brought by Gabriel. Deny one, deny the other.
How God is a divine Charmer, pitting nations against each other for their foolishness!
He will weld them into one community and these differences will absolutely disappear.
Take heed from the rise and fall of civilizations past and try to discern what is now new, for God has indeed “made all things new” just as He made water into wine, and a fisherman into the Prince of Apostles, or stammering Bilal into the first muezzin!

i am not a Catholic and so can’t really comment on what the Church teaches, but here is my take…

It’s true that there are numerous disagreements between Islam and Catholicism. I know they deny the Holy Trinity. BUT…as a Catholic, the Catechism of the Catholic Church contains the official teachings of the Church. If we reject the official teachings, or any one of them (this is my understanding and I’m going to call a local bishop’s office to confirm) then we are in heresey. SO…if the Catechism of the Catholic Church says that Islam worships the one true God, then I’m bound to accept that. That’s a good starting point. So, if the CCC is true (and CAtholic believe it is otherwise we wouldn’t be Catholic) then Allah and Father are the same. We have the Father in Faith, Abraham.

I can’t help but comparing it to a father who has 3 sons. The sons love the Father but hate each other. How could that make the Father happy? I wish there could be peace. But muslims seem determined to kill us all. That’s not a good basis for peace. Why does it have to be that way?

Iwest ~

to deny that God is Father, Son, and Spirit is to deny God, brother.

Muslims do believe in one god, with many of the same attributes and powers of the God we worship. yet the Allah of Islam curses Christians, demands that they stop worshiping and praying to Jesus, and denies His triune nature. Allah also orders Muslims to fight and subdue Christians who do not accept Islam, until they pay a voluntary tax to their conquerers (Surah 9 verse 29).

it is important to understand what Muslims believe about Jesus, God, Christians, the Bible, etc. Muslims also believe that the Bible has been perverted, edited, and corrupted over the years, and is unreliable as a source of Truth.

to deny that Jesus is the Son of God who was crucified and rose on the third day is to deny Christ. why would God deny Himself, or lie?

i would love peace between Muslims and Christians, Iwest. but due to Muslim attitudes about Christian beliefs and practices (we are heretics and polytheists who deserve to be mocked, threatened, proselytized, and fought with until we either convert or pay a tax), peace does not seem possible.

God does love the Muslims world, brother. and He is willing that none should perish, but that all should come to repent and have life and grace in Jesus’ Name.

i know that Jesus is the Son of God, and God’s beloved Messiah, eternal and co-equal with the Father. any religion or prophet who denies this can not be from God, neither did God promise to send anyone or any new book after Jesus, the Living Word and the Christ.
