Do Polygamists go to hell?

I said I don’t care about the moral code of Judaism. It was superceded for Jews by the coming of Christ, and it was never binding on Gentiles. Christians don’t keep Kosher or follow any other Jewish laws.

Judaism is important for the Prophesies fortelling Christ. God could have chosen to reveal Christ through another religion, and it wouldn’t have made a difference. Their were Monotheistic theologies developing in the Greek, Roman and Persian worlds around the same time.

The importance of Judaism was in preparing the way for Christ. After his coming, its relevance, as a modern religion, ceased for Christians. This is symbolized in the Gospels by the tearing of the Temple veil.

God Bless
…in your opinion, of course.

In the opinion of the Church, and pretty much all of Christianity.

We hope and pray for all Jews to recognize Christ as the messiah and convert.

God Bless
Well, we hope and pray for the truly righteous of all nations to have a share in the World to Come…and for those who advocate an exclusivist position to realize that they won’t be the only ones in Heaven. 😃

I never said non-Christians couldn’t get to heaven.

My understanding is that it is much harder to reach heaven w/o access to the sacraments and even harder w/o explicit belief in Christ.

My desire for the conversion of Jews and other non-Catholics and non-Christians is out of concern for their souls. It is from love not hatred.

Historically, that has not always been the Catholic (or Lutheran) motivation, but I believe you if you say you are motivated by love.

But what I explain to Christians seeking to convert Jews is this: if you TRULY love the Jewish people, you won’t try to convert us to another religion.

Instead, you will tell every Jew you meet that they need to be following the God of Israel, and keeping the Torah He commanded every Jew to obey.

I have worked with many Jews who first converted to Christianity (and other religions), before finally finding their way back to Judaism. And one thing many told me, over and over, was that keeping Jewish Law was seen by them previously as “too hard”, and Christianity seemed “easier”…which was a major factor in their original conversions. (That attitude usually comes from a misconception of what keeping Torah really involves).

Yet only when all Jews keep Torah will the Messiah come. This is what we believe.

But Christians believe the Messiah has come in the person of Jesus. If one believes this, how could you not try to convince others who don’t believe? Why would we want to withhold the best chance at eternal salvation? Particularly from the Jews, whom Christ came to first.

Well, speaking for almost every Jew I know, I can assure you that we don’t want your messiah.

Is that sufficient? Why keep pushing something on people who have made it clear they’re not interested?

With all this talk of the Mormon Texas compound in the news and what they did to those innocent children. What does the Catholic church say about polygmy and how do these people say they are Christians if they are treating God’s children the way they are?

It’s highly disturbing details in the news.

Thanks.
I don’t like to judge anyone’s salvation. They might change during their lifetime and God doesn’t like us judging others. 🙂
I will add, Mormons follow a different gospel. They deny the Trinity and do not believe Jesus is the son of God. This puts them on shaky ground, but then, they may come to believe in the trinune God. lets pray for them.
All sins must be repented of, including polygamy I wonder how one man supports all the children he fathers? Some have as many as 19-20 Who feeds them?

Polygamy is nothing more than adultery. It would seem to be, in almost all cases, a mortal sin. Therefore, if unrepented, would most likely lead to damnation.
Didn’t a lot of the Old testament Jewish Kings have multiple wives? Does that automatically mean they are damned?

I agree with everyone on the FLDS stuff, using one’s position to lead the young astray HOWEVER it is done is filthy and disgusting and sick.

It would be akin to a new group “borrowing” the Catholic Bible, distorting the meaning of it, and then accusing Catholics of not knowing their own Scriptures.
We have those. They are called Protestants…

He’s your Messiah too. You just keep the blinders on. Sorry, but when you come to a Catholic forum you need a little more tact. If you don’t want “our” Messiah then perhaps we are not interested in residing in a past covenant that Jesus fulfilled. As Catholics, however, we are interested in Judaism as the foreshadowing of the Fulfillment of our salvation. Sorry, but I hardly find it feasiblle to go to a Jewish forum and tell you guys that we don’t want your denial of Christ…God Bless…teachccd 🙂

hashem,
Thank you for the information.
No one is pushing Jesus on you. Jesus doesn’t drag anyone kicking and screaming into heaven. 😉
The Holy Spirit may someday nudge your conscience.
I love the Jews. My Savior is a Jew.

God bless,

And you, as a Gentile, are supposed to be following the 7 laws of Noah, but if you choose not to, I could say you have blinders on.

(just giving you a taste of your own meds, 😉

Yes, I agree. I guess my position on “automatically damned” is that it is not for us to say. I used old testament kings as a simple example.

Who is sinning? Not for us to say. We can see something as wrong or sick from our own perspective, and we can insist that OUR perspective is the only TRUE perspective. We do that all the time, not only with respect to other religions, but also among ourselves. Lovers of the Law think they have it all figured out, but Jesus did caution us about judging others and he did regard Samaritans (the outcast and distained sect of Jews) and sinners with love and gentleness.

Pray that WE could be more Christlike.
