Do Protestants Really Hate Catholicism?

I hope you’re not here to try to talk Catholics out of their faith with your false doctrines and inacfcurate interpretations of Scripture.

I notice in every single one of your ‘the Bible says’ quotes you refer to Paul. Not a single word from Jesus. Try reading Matthew 25:31-46 for starters and tell be what the Lord says there about faith.
We can’t earn Salvation, but our acts of obedience prove up our relationship with Christ. Grace is a free gift that cannot be earned. The sheep who accept the free gift will be known by the fruit that they bear. The goats may have claimed to know Christ but proved that they believed yet did nothing to show their belief. Even the demons believe.
I’m not here to proselytize nor do I claim to interpret scripture. The Holy Spirit is my interpreter.

Nancy, if you believe the way you do and know that the things I printed are true, why continue to be a part of a church that teaches this way?
:)They don’t teach that way. They teach the truth. The bible can be inturperated differntly and that is why people are always after the Cathoilcs If any people are persucated it is the Cathoilcs because of their faith and prayers and beliefs. These people are of God and are a true church,i usto think the same but i stuck around and found out better, honest there are people here who know the scriptures and can explain everything you want to know. You just learned a differnt way and in this process learned to condem while you were learning. What Catholic has done you wrong? What catholic has condemed you? What Catholic has picketed your Church? What catholic has made fun of you? I know we are not perfect but we strive for the goal as Paul said, because he knew he was not perfect to.The Spirit is willing but the flesh is week! And i’ll bet you he prayed for forgiveness to:thumbsup: Love of Christ Nancy

I grew up Protestant but haven’t been to church in years (nothing to be proud of). Unless things have changed, I have never once heard an anti-catholic word spoken in the churches I attended nor by any of the members.

I don’t think Protestants are concerned about Catholicism as much as people think we are.

Well Nancy, my grandmother was Catholic. And although I know she loved me, she always insisted that I’d go to hell if I wasn’t an official Catholic. Never mind that I told her that I believed in the virgin birth of Jesus, that he died on the cross for us, and that he arose on the 3rd day to our justification and is seated at the right hand of the Father, making intercession for us. Never mind that in addition to believing I strive to “work out my salvation” and bear good fruit. She always said that I’d have to work to get into heaven and that grace was not enough to save me. And that if I did not participate in all the obligations that the Church sets down, I could never go to heaven. But I’m telling you, that is not what God’s word says. I do believe and I do serve Him as Lord and Savior. His grace is sufficient.

That may not be what you’ve been TOLD God’s word says, but you seem to have been misled. Sitting back on relying on grace to lift you into heaven is not what the New Testament teaches.

Luke 14:13-14
But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.

1 Tim 6:18-19
They are to do good, to be rich in good deeds, liberal and generous, thus laying up for themselves a good foundation for the future, so that they may take hold of the life which is life indeed.

Rom. 2:6-7
God will give to each person according to what he has done. To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life.

Matthew 5.23:
But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgement. Again, anyone who says to his brother, Raca, is answerable to the Sanhedrin. But anyone who says “You fool!” will be in danger of the fire of hell. "

Matthew 7
21 "Not every one who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you evildoers.’ 24 “Every one then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house upon the rock; 25 and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat upon that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. 26 And every one who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house upon the sand; 27 and the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell; and great was the fall of it.”

Matthew 18;.
32 Then his lord summoned him and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you besought me; 33 and should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?’ 34 And in anger his lord delivered him to the jailers, till he should pay all his debt. 35 So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart."

Matthew 25 :
31 “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory.
32 “All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
33 “He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world.
35 ‘For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,
36 ‘I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?
38 ‘When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?
39 ‘When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.’
41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.
42 ‘For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink,
43 ‘I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’
44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 “He will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

The Catholic Church teaches:
Initial justification is by means of baptism [1262-1274]
The Bible teaches
Justification is by faith alone (Romans 3:28)
It’s funny, I fail to see the words “faith alone” in this verse. In fact, the only time I’ve found faith alone (really “faith only”) are in James 2:26 when James is speaking against faith alone…

Nancy, if you believe the way you do and know that the things I printed are true, why continue to be a part of a church that teaches this way?
Question regarding “No one can know if he will attain to eternal life [1036, 2005].”
Are the numbers 1036 and 2005 referring to the Catechism of the Catholic Church?
If they are, they are not referring to what you are saying. Also, some of your items are actually different views of the same thing. Are you really sure what the Church teaches?

Look at it this way If Jesus came to earth now He would be persecuted all over again for all He did was good deeds, He healed the sick made the blind to see, the lame to walk He fed the multitude Blessed and broke bread and ate with his decipals, walked through walls, Baptized his decipals and showed them what to do. He preached, and teached, He walked on water, and He rose from the dead. Now if He was here they would call him evil, just like they did then. Wake up and SEE, for we are our brothers keepers! love of Christ Nancy

I’m a Protestant (Wesleyen-Arminian/Pentecostal-Holiness background), and I don’t hate Catholics. I disagree strongly with some of the beliefs of Catholicism though. I also do the same with Lutherenism, Calvinism, and several other of my brothers and sisters in Christ. Just because you disagree or even hate a person’s theological beliefs doesn’t mean you hate the person who practice it. I hate Oneness Pentecostalism (because it’s a corruption of my own theology), but I don’t hate Jesus-Only folk.

Don’t spoil things for the OP 😃 It can be very empowering to feel one is hated - it makes one feel special, & allows one to claim the kudos of having the words of Jesus fulfilled in one’s own experience,* and* of being like the Apostles. And it’s a brilliant way of ignoring the real reason one is hated - i.e. for being a world-class jerk. This fishing for being hated follows the logic of the person who says: “Great poets are persecuted - I’m persecuted - therefore, I must be a great poet”. 🙂

Josie,

From St Ignatius of Antioch ca. A.D. 110: “Wherever the bishop appears, let the people be there; just as wherever Jesus Christ is, there is the Catholic Church.”

Unless it means: “…universal Church” - which might fit the context better.

The difficulty is to tell when the word is used as a name, & when as an adjective.
I notice in a lot of Protestant translations of ECFs they omit “catholic” from the text. Why is that?

See above 🙂 The name “Catholic” has some less-than-catholic associations - there is a difference between “The universal Church”, & the Catholic Church", even though the same Greek word is at the bottom of all this. One criticism made by many Protestants is that the Church governed from Rome is Catholic - but not catholic, extensive though it is. Protestant ecclesiology is concerned to be catholic, which is why Protestants have often denied that Catholic Church is catholic, & have considered a more accurate description to be “the Roman Church”; that is, the Church governed from Rome. “Romish” is a much less polite way of saying the same thing.

I have to run some errands but will check in later.

In Christ,

bksumm

How beautiful ! I wish I knew why someone changed it . I know I also saw that somewhere . Do you remember where you saw it ?

The Church was called “catholic”, “universal” to distinguish it from the schisms & heresies, which were localised & not universal.

I don’t consider myself a *Protestant *** as I’ve never protested the Catholic church. And I don’t hate Catholicism. I’m merely in disagreement with it.

You might as well say that you have never struck a permanent Gaze on the Crucifix, it’s Love, that is not of this world. The Holy Spirit is so humble that you cant hear it,unless you have been confirmed, Matt. 11:12, tell me about the violence done to the Holy spirit…OK

Bellus, I love you but listen i have been out there and when i came here i herd the same thing and thought these people that converted must be week in their faith but believe me i found out alot differnt. It does help if you went out there and then come back to the church because you take what ever knowledge with you and are able to compair and find out that there realy isnt anything out there that is worth borthering with and the feeling is differnt. You have more freedoms but you end up with more back sliding because no one realy takes you under their wings as the Catholic church does, those who never leave are more blessed because they learned to grow where they were planted;)You say that by grace we are saved I to usto believe this and it is in the bible But Paul in Phillipians 3:12 He is talking about Pressing on Tward the goal Not that i have already obtained all this,or have already been made perfect, but i press on to take hold of that for which Jesus Christ took hold of me. Brothers, i do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing i do Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, i press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. All of us who are mature should take such a view of things. And if on some point you think differntly, that to God will make clear to you. Only let us live up to what we already have obtained. Join with others in following my example, brothers, and take note of those who live according to the pattern i gave you. For, as i have often told you before and now say again even with tears, many live as enemies of the cross of Christ. Their destiny is destruction, thier God is their stomach, Their mind is on earthly things. But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ who by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glourious body. Therefore my brothers, you whom i love and long for, my joy and crown, that is how you should stand firm in the Lord, dear friends. Love of Christ Nancy

Dear sir,

I am not sure if it is entirely fair to disagree with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church (RCC) simply based on those reference you have previously made. I am not a Catholic and never would I know enough to say on behalf of the RCC. However, I am sure the teachings of the RCC is far more than what you have quoted. Their teachings cover the teachings of the bible and the church by their traditions.

I just want to be fair

I grew up Protestant but haven’t been to church in years (nothing to be proud of). Unless things have changed, I have never once heard an anti-catholic word spoken in the churches I attended nor by any of the members.

I don’t think Protestants are concerned about Catholicism as much as people think we are.
Yes, true indeed.

Most of the Protestants are not very concerned about Catholism as they are too busy with their own worships and beliefs.

Furthermore, I said before that only minority Protestants would attack the Roman Catholic Church (RCC). Instead, the Anglicans, the Baptists and other big denominations recognise the differences between their churches and the RCC but not criticising the RCC.

Thank you sincerely for your example.

I could give a list of the protestant churches and what they teach that i do not like expecially the rapture ( “those who endure to the end shall be saved”) God does not that anyone to perish nor to be ignorant of the times and the signs. I think Father Plants people incertain places for a reason I know he does those who listen to him will know where to be and when because"My sheep know me and they follow me where ever i go.The best way to know about religion you should study to show yourself approved Love of Christ Nancy
