Do Protestants really hate Catholics?

It sounds like a fringe site. As long it is not someone you know, I would not let it bother you. Even then, treat them on a case by case basis.

I remember being 5 or 6 and a girl I was friends with who was Baptist told me that Catholics weren’t Christians. She was just repeating what she heard because she knew I was Catholic. It did not phase me, but I was confused and went through the vocabulary out loud. That was the end of that conversation then. Later in High School I had active conversations with other Baptists and Pentacostals too. It was not negative, they were all convinced the Church was evil. It was a good way for me to cut my theological teeth.

Yes, OP needs to understand this, protestants have a watered-down understanding of Catholics, while both have many similarities, it is those differences that they focus on.

I would say protestants I know, are either focused on the intellectual or spiritual assent or both. The spiritual assent, is the emphasis on the holy spirit during the worship and the intellectual assent is the emphasis on the bible interpretation.

A discussion between taylor marshall and tim flanders (an ex-lutheran,baptist, eastern orthodox, then catholicism), talks about how tim flanders met with ex-protestants in the eastern orthodox church who simply did not want to be associated with Catholicism due to their anti-catholicism views they developed since young. And he elaborates these people are also the ones that bad-mouth catholicism and some even write a book to criticise the catholic church despite having changed to eastern orthodoxy.

I would say the sola-scriptura protestants are generally the ones that have the most beef with catholics.

I’ve known both protestants that have a severe hatred for Catholics and protestants who aren’t really bothered by Catholics. The first group tend to be in the non-denominational category. I know non-den protestants that say quite a lot when they are at their church the preacher attacks the Catholic Church.

I have had more hatred from protestants than atheists in my life especially protestants who don’t go to church at all claiming that God is everywhere so they don’t need to. Also a lot of them listen to these american protestant televangelists and get sucked into their sermons, I kept hearing them mention the same names and buying their dvd’s.

I have known some Orthodox like that. The guy who street preached on my college Campus was one.

I also feel sorry for them. They think they’re doing a good thing, but, in reality, they’re protesting against something good!!!

I think this is one of those questions that seeks a yes or no answer but cannot be answered in that way. Without diverting to do a little research and finding a reliable number I would guess that Protestants number in the tens of millions, at least. So, you simply cannot easily sum up what that many people feel.

It is also not a case of Protestants simply hating or not hating Catholics. There has to be context as well. Where I live in the UK Catholics and Protestants tend, on the whole, to get on very well. However, there are places where that is not so. Because of history in places like Liverpool and Glasgow the relations may not always be as cordial. In Northern Ireland the situation is different again.

It is also important to bear in mind that in may cases such hatred is not a one way street. Often the hatred is reciprocated, i.e. Catholics hating Protestants.

I am not sure if there are similar problems in the USA but I do know that a lot of original immigrants from Europe were Protestant and they were often not welcoming to Catholics.

Cats are sweet and adorable. They are NOT evil.
I love cats. But they are not sweet. They are, or at least think they are, apex predators by nature. But they are adorable when they try to act on that belief, especially when they are still tiny and fuzzy.

Ok, I disagree. Cats ARE sweet & adorable. 🙂 Maybe not lions or tigers, but certainly my house cats are sweet and adorable. And, yes, they kill things. They keep the mice population in check. 🙂

This is one of the essentials we Catholics need to show unity on. Read your catechism. CCC=Catechism of the Corruption of Cats. 😁

Eh, maybe some. I’d say that the majority are probably even further out in the weeds.

In 40+ year as a non-denominational I never heard the Catholic Church brought up once at church.
🤷‍♂️

Some of them just understand and believe we are out to corrupt the message of Jesus

Cats are not corrupt
I disagree. My cat wanted breakfast from my son this morning, he ate it and then pretended to be starving in front of my daughter and she fed him again!

-------- 🧐

I know they aren’t Christian but I always found the Mormons in my area very friendly even when I tell them that I am Catholic and debate with them.

I’ve experienced this for decades, but thank You, Jesus, not with every Protestant I know…

Imo it’s based on learned behavior. Too, I also consider this many-times rude behavior is due to a lack of sacramental grace (as rudeness is not of the Holy Spirit), and again a mistaken view of history.

That said, among the rudest it’s CathoLISM and not CathoLICS that they claim to have a problem with. At least one who said they didn’t like organized religion, when pressed to be more specific, admitted that it was ONLY the Catholic Church they had a problem with. Every OTHER organized religion was okay.

Why? Imo it’s because hell knows which Church is the one Jesus built. Does this mean Protestants aren’t Christians? No, it just means that at its best, ProtestantISM only contains SOME authentic Christianity. Which imo is going to make it more difficult for its members to understand Christ’s teachings. And imo, easier to ignore them, too.

For example, in recent history we have Harold Camping, who was sent millions of dollars because he claimed (if memory serves) to have mathematically calculated the end of the world.

In Matthew 24 Jesus clearly states that only God knows this. So how come it was so easy for so many Bible-only believers to NOT believe the Bible?
