Do Protestants Understand Why Jesus Had To Come?

One aspect of Christ’s coming that I never heard mentioned when I attended a Protestant church regularly was that God had to become incarnate in order to bring the world of flesh into His Own Being.

The constant emphasis on the judiciary aspect of salvation seemed to almost completely overlook its more poetic and certainly more human dimension- that God became man so that man might become God (as in, partake in the Divine Nature). I never heard of such ideas as “theosis” or “Beatific Vision”.

The Incarnation resolved the dilemna of dualism in which the flesh had run rampant from the innermost desires of the spirit. By becoming flesh God actually took human nature into Himself.

While Protestant theology obviously discusses the Incarnation, I have never personally encountered it in terms of it representing this deep and personal union of the natures of God and man. The Protestant Incarnation sometimes seems so removed from us in terms of our relationship with God and instead, seems isolated only to a single point in history.

why do infants die in volcanoes and earthquakes? you believe in the Divine so where is His mercy here?
accidents are one thing, murder is another.

I am agnostic on God. I just believe there is one. I dont claim to know what he/she is like. So I cannot comment on how merciful god should be. Just appreciate the fact that we live in a wonderful planet with enough risks & mysteries to make human life challenging enough.

Most of you have completely veered away from the original thread. Please get back on and stick to the original statement! we are suppose to be talking about why Jesus had to come and restore the Davidic Kingdom!

Ego te Amo to all!
Protestants share the same opinions as your points #1 & #2. I’m not sure about the rest (#3 & #4). Anyway your #4 makes very little sense because most jews rejects/rejected Jesus.

If God were as puny as you and I, it would indeed be sick and uncompassionate for Him to order the killing of an entire people, babies included. But He’s not. He knows the future. He knows what every child will become in the fullness of time, given the chance. You uncritically saddle God with human limitations by your judgements.

As an aside, are you aware of the definition of deism? Sounds like it fits your views of God.

If I find at Sodom fifty righteous in the city, I will spare the whole place for their sake.’ Abraham answered and said, ‘Behold, I have undertaken to speak to the Lord, I who am but dust and ashes. Suppose five of the fifty righteous are lacking. Will you destroy the whole city for lack of five?’ And he said, ‘I will not destroy it if I find forty-five there.’ Again he spoke to him and said, ‘Suppose forty are found there.’ He answered, ‘For the sake of forty I will not do it.’ Then he said, ‘Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak. Suppose thirty are found there.’ He answered, ‘I will not do it, if I find thirty there.’ He said, ‘Behold, I have undertaken to speak to the Lord. Suppose twenty are found there.’ He answered, ‘For the sake of twenty I will not destroy it.’ Then he said, ‘Oh let not the Lord be angry, and I will speak again but this once. Suppose ten are found there.’ He answered, ‘For the sake of ten I will not destroy it.’ And the ord went His way, when he had finished speaking to Abraham, and Abraham returned to his place." Genesis 18:1-33

Maybe we will all understand why Jesus came after reading what the saints have to say about their visions of Hell… and also what a NON-Catholic (last time i heard she was non-Catholic) has to say.

Please go to www.SpiritLessons.com.

She claims Jesus took her in spirit, into Hell… Very scary… and nothing there contradicts what the Church teaches (that i am aware of).

Correct me if i am wrong… Thanks…

really? then why is it that it too him too long before coming? humans had been around for hundreds of thousands of years. Jesus was too tardy. 😃
