According to the official Statement on Doctrine by the SDA, accepting Jesus as your personal Saviour is NOT sufficient to be saved.
Hmmm, here’s the official SADA beliefs:
  1. Experience of Salvation:
In infinite love and mercy God made Christ, who knew no sin, to be sin for us, so that in Him we might be made the righteousness of God. Led by the Holy Spirit we sense our need, acknowledge our sinfulness, repent of our transgressions, and exercise faith in Jesus as Lord and Christ, as Substitute and Example. This faith which receives salvation comes through the divine power of the Word and is the gift of God’s grace. Through Christ we are justified, adopted as God’s sons and daughters, and delivered from the lordship of sin. Through the Spirit we are born again and sanctified; the Spirit renews our minds, writes God’s law of love in our hearts, and we are given the power to live a holy life. Abiding in Him we become partakers of the divine nature and have the assurance of salvation now and in the judgment. (2 Cor. 5:17-21; John 3:16; Gal. 1:4; 4:4-7; Titus 3:3-7; John 16:8; Gal. 3:13, 14; 1 Peter 2:21, 22; Rom. 10:17; Luke 17:5; Mark 9:23, 24; Eph. 2:5-10; Rom. 3:21-26; Col. 1:13, 14; Rom. 8:14-17; Gal. 3:26; John 3:3-8; 1 Peter 1:23; Rom. 12:2; Heb. 8:7-12; Eze. 36:25-27; 2 Peter 1:3, 4; Rom. 8:1-4; 5:6-10.)
  2. Growing in Christ:
By His death on the cross Jesus triumphed over the forces of evil. He who subjugated the demonic spirits during His earthly ministry has broken their power and made certain their ultimate doom. Jesus’ victory gives us victory over the evil forces that still seek to control us, as we walk with Him in peace, joy, and assurance of His love. Now the Holy Spirit dwells within us and empowers us. Continually committed to Jesus as our Saviour and Lord, we are set free from the burden of our past deeds. No longer do we live in the darkness, fear of evil powers, ignorance, and meaninglessness of our former way of life. In this new freedom in Jesus, we are called to grow into the likeness of His character, communing with Him daily in prayer, feeding on His Word, meditating on it and on His providence, singing His praises, gathering together for worship, and participating in the mission of the Church. As we give ourselves in loving service to those around us and in witnessing to His salvation, His constant presence with us through the Spirit transforms every moment and every task into a spiritual experience. (Ps 1:1, 2; 23:4; 77:11, 12; Col 1:13, 14; 2:6, 14, 15; Luke 10:17-20; Eph 5:19, 20; 6:12-18; 1 Thess 5:23; 2 Peter 2:9; 3:18; 2 Cor. 3:17, 18; Phil 3:7-14; 1 Thess 5:16-18; Matt 20:25-28; John 20:21; Gal 5:22-25; Rom 8:38, 39; 1 John 4:4; Heb 10:25.)

It is also ā€œnecessaryā€ to stop killing and hating, stop stealing and defrauding, stop committing adultery, stop worshipping other gods, stop taking God’s name in vain, etc…

You were misinformed on this point. My bet would be from some anti-SDA web site–they do this kind of thing frequently. Ask your self this: if their cause is so right and true why do they have to misrepresent things? Is that something that the Holy Spirit would inspire some one to do?

She was talking to the audience of her day and said of them not one in 20 is ready to be saved–and even that isn’t a good "translation of what she actually said! Here’s some quotes (there’s more than one!):

ā€œIt is a solemn statement that I make to the church, that not one in twenty whose names are registered upon the church books are prepared to close their earthly history, and would be as verily without God and without hope in the world as the common sinner. They are professedly serving God, but they are more earnestly serving mammon.ā€ {GCB, July 1, 1900 par. 7}

ā€œBut the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance. . . . And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vainglory, provoking one another, envying one another.ā€ There are lessons of the highest importance that not one in twenty of those who claim to be children of God have yet learned. Shall not we learn them before our destiny is forever settled? Shall we cherish and cultivate the very thing which Satan originated in heaven, which resulted in his fall, and which through his temptations has successfully accomplished the fall of thousands and thousands? Shall we separate ourselves from God, and take the enemy’s side? Professed believers in the truth are doing this. When circumstances arise to tempt them, they do not resist temptation, but fall an easy prey to the Devil. That which individuals need is practical godliness. This is the only antidote for the snares of the Devil. {RH, June 28, 1887 par. 2}

Mere lip service won’t cut it on the judgment day:

Matthew 7:21-23 (Douay-Confraternity Version)
21Not every one who says to me, ā€˜Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven; but he who does the will of my Father in heaven shall enter the kingdom of heaven.
22Many will say to me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in thy name and cast out devils in thy name, work many miracles in thy name?
23And then will I declare to them, ā€˜I never knew you. Depart from me, you workers of iniquity!’

SDA are NOT Christians simply because they ADD works to simple faith in Jesus Christ. According to the official Statement on Doctrine by the SDA, accepting Jesus as your personal Saviour is NOT sufficient to be saved.
Where in the bible does it say that you have to ā€œaccept Jesus as your personal saviour to be saved?ā€

NAB James 2:24 "See how a person is justified by works and not by faith alone. "

I think that the theology of Adventists and Catholics in this instance is quite similar.

Catholics do consider Adventists to be Christian and do accept the baptism of the Adventists as a valid baptism.

Excellet points Amills.

I think the following explains it well. šŸ™‚
*
ā€œAre you saved?ā€ asks the Fundamentalist. The Catholic should reply: ā€œAs the Bible says, I am already saved (Rom. 8:24, Eph. 2:5–8), but I’m also being saved (1 Cor. 1:8, 2 Cor. 2:15, Phil. 2:12), and I have the hope that I will be saved (Rom. 5:9–10, 1 Cor. 3:12–15). Like the apostle Paul I am working out my salvation in fear and trembling (Phil. 2:12), with hopeful confidence in the promises of Christ (Rom. 5:2, 2 Tim. 2:11–13).ā€

If you are looking for exact wording you won’t finds it. However:

Acts 2:21
And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Acts 4:12
Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Acts 15:11
But we believe that through the grace of the LORD Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

Acts 16:31
And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

I think they meant ā€œaccepting Himā€ is an unbiblical concept if it is issued without reference to a commitment to future works of righteousness.

That would be correct as long as it understood that the works are through us from God and the works don’t save us.

We are not saved by works, nor are we saved by mere assenting faith, we are saved by grace.

Some Adventists have told me they believe some other Christians, including perhaps a few Catholics, might also be saved. But this appears to be their personal opinion, rather than than an official teaching of the Adventist Church. They also seem to say this when they are on the defensive about their Church ā€œbeing attacked.ā€

I have not read any official Adventist teachings saying non-Adventist Christians will be saved.

Adventists also do not believe heaven and hell are eternal, which is contrary to the Gospel.

Do SDA believe in annilationism?? I am curious

to SDAs, What would be the best book Ellen White wrote on this?? or pehaps the best book that she ever wrote

According to the SDA’s, the oly non sdas who will be saved are the ones who keep the sabbath.

Do SDA believe in annilationism?? I am curious
Yes, they do. Some of the false doctrines they believe in are:
(a) the Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon; (b) the pope is the Antichrist; (c) in the last days, Sunday worship will be ā€œthe mark of the beastā€; (d) there is a future millennium in which the devil will roam the earth while Christians are with Christ in heaven; (e) the soul sleeps between death and resurrection; and (f) on the last day, after a limited period of punishment in hell, the wicked will be annihilated and cease to exist rather than be eternally damned.

By what authority they teach these things is a mystery. They certainly are not Biblical. Yet, most Adventists argue that Scripture supports the above false doctrines. What they dont realize, is they are using a faulty interpretation of Scripture to reach these inaccurate conclusions. Yet when Catholics use a different interpretation of Scripture to support our beliefs, they say we are wrong. Which begs the question, whose authority do we follow when trying to best understand Scripture. I rely on the authority of the Church, rather than the authority of an individuals personal opinion.

Sincerely,

Maria1212

Workds have never saved–but they can show who is saved.

I like the bit about ā€œnor are we saved by mere assenting faith, we are saved by graceā€ although if you are going to use the word grace then it should be ā€œWe are saved by faith in God’s grace through the redeeming blood of His Son, Jesus Christ.ā€

Note that none of the alleged false doctrines have been proven to be false. Some of them aren’t even doctrines! For what SDA’ really believe vs. someone’s say-so see: adventist.org/beliefs/fundamental/index.html

Every single one of our beliefs is based on Scripture as you will see when you click on the above link.
Yet, most Adventists argue that Scripture supports the above false doctrines.
Some of what you listed aren’t doctrines and none of them have been proven to be false.
What they don`t realize, is they are using a faulty interpretation of Scripture to reach these inaccurate conclusions.
Well, that hasn’t been proven either. We have evangelists who when witnessing to Catholics use the Douay version of the Bible to show what we believe and they are converted. Were they wrong?

Yes we believe that at the end the wicked will be eternally destroyed by fire falling down out of heaven to completely consume the wicked. Imagine burning a pirece of paper so hot that the only thing left is smoke and light and heat from the fire–in the Semitic mind that is ā€œeternal.ā€ It means complete vs. a period of time.

John 3:16 (King James Version)
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

This means that only one group of people will have ā€œeverlasting lifeā€ā€“those who are saved. In order for the wicked to suffer for eternity the wicked would also have to have ā€œeverlasting life.ā€ But, they won’t they will ā€œperish.ā€

I would say that the best books by Ellen G. White are Steps to Christ (short too!) and her book on the life of Christ: The Desire of Ages. The last book is sometimes called ā€œthe love bookā€ because it reveals through the life of Christ the love that God has for us.

Well, that hasn’t been proven either. We have evangelists who when witnessing to Catholics use the Douay version of the Bible to show what we believe and they are converted. Were they wrong?
Yes, they were wrong to leave the Catholic Church. Unfortunately, some Catholics do not understand, or have not been educated on their own faith, and have been led astray by a false interpretation of Scripture, and in some cases by deceit and misrepresentation of history. Fortunately, many return to the Catholic faith after continuing their spiritual journey.

Sincerely,

Maria1212

I rely on Scripture vs. the false teachings of men.

I should point out, that the very Scripture you rely on, is a gift from God, compiled and preserved by the Catholic Church. because it was the Catholic Church that compiled what was included in the New Testament. The Bible is the Word of God, and I am thankful to the Catholic Church for preserving it for the past two thousand years. By trusting the authority of the Catholic Church, that includes the Scripture and our Lord`s teachings passed on via Sacred Tradition, the oral word of God.

Sincerely,

Maria1212
