Do we vote for the lesser of two evils?

Because those ‘far lesser issues’ are not important to you, while they are important to others.

And some of the things that are very important to people are the roofs over their heads and the food they eat and their health, and yeah, other things will take a backseat to that. Some people think that the already-born are important too.
It reminds me of the politician who voted for better jails and not for new schools. When asked why he didn’t vote for new schools, he answered, “What’s the chances of me ever going back to school again.” Moral: What’s important to one may not be important to another.

I’ll tell you though, you can learn a lot from this forum. I don’t know anything about Ryan. But reading posts from his supporters last night and this morning here on this forum has enlightened me quite a bit. You can tell a lot about a candidate by what their supportors rant about in their favor. Reading things about favoring elderly and disabled to sell their homes (and live on the street) to pay for their healthcare, or if they’re too old and sick to pay for healthcare then they shouldn’t get it, that elderly and disabled can certainly find some job to pay for their own healthcare, etc., was pretty enlightening about what people think is important and what is not. And some of the things that are very important to people are the roofs over their heads and the food they eat and their health, and yeah, other things will take a backseat to that. That said, some people, even Catholics, will vote for Obama again, and there’s nothing someone who spews hellfire and brimstone about that choice can do about it except blow off steam.
*Hi Rence,
You and I both know people will use what they like about a candidate to try and push their personal interests. I have not known much about Paul Ryan until recently and I can assure you I am listening to him instead of the people on these forums. I would hope and pray that you do too. *

Keep in mind that Romney supports and has participated via his son and daughter in law, in vitro fertilization, and supports the destruction of unused embryos through macabre harvesting for scientific research.

He is pro-life, except when it comes to self-serving interest.

Well, I’m sure that all of the candidates will say some things that one will like, and then they’ll say other things that one will not like. One has to figure out what will be in the best interests of our country while sorting it all out. Some of what Ryan says I agree with, but most of it I do not. I think both sides are struggling for balance. One just has to try and figure out who will do less damage to the issues that are most important to them. Some will focus on the unborn. Some will focus on the already-born.

and some of us will focus on both the born and unborn.

Keep in mind that Romney is not Catholic and his actions have been congruent with his beliefs. Not all self described “pro-life” people all agree with one another on just how “pro-life” one has to be in order to deserve the the title of “pro-life”. Mormons are not opposed to IVF and allow it. Romney supporters should know that…
.

*Hi Jim,

How do you know this?*
Romney’s son and daughter-in-law had children through in vitro fertilization, which of course produces more embryos than are implanted. Romney supports embryonic research and those embryos come predominately from in vitro fertilization.

And this is comparable to support for abortion on demand (including sex selective ones)…

how??

Well Obama isn’t Catholic either.

However, the support of an intrinsic evil doesn’t give Obama or Romney a free pass because they’re not Catholic.

It doesn’t justify support for abortion, but it’s no lesser of an evil.

It not only involves the destruction of human life, i.e, the embryo’s, but also allows for the macabre research on them.

When we open the door for embryonic research, we will open the door for the production and harvesting of embryos on a grand scale, as the current supply will run dry and not be able to meet the demand.

In some ways, it’s more evil than a scared young girl getting an abortion because she’s not only ignorant of what’s she’s doing, but doesn’t know she has another choice.

What’s the difference? Supposedly when one uses IVF they are destroying or freezing numerous eggs (including sex selective ones), just like abortion on demand. Unless one is specifically implanting each and every egg used, (which is rare due to the expense, but still possible), it’s the same exact thing.

I love the logical gymnastics that one needs to make such an observation. Candidate A supports embryonic stem cell research. Cadidate B supports embryonic stem cell research and abortion on demand.

Both support something the same. Another takes it to a new level. There is no degree for support of evil here.

What are the numbers between destroyed embryos and abortion? Or between abortion with and without embryonic stem cell research?

That slight tug you and Rence feel is just cognitive dissonance messin with ya.

If you hold non-Catholic candidates to Catholic rules you’ll only be disappointed.

So one candidate commist and intrinsic evil, a little more than the other so we can vote for the lesser of the two evils.

It also shows how shallow a Catholic Paul Ryan is to link up with Romney as his running mate, when Romney supports such an intrinsic evil

I won’t vote for either candidate.

Where in the world did you get the ideas you have expressed about Ryan and healthcare. Certainly not from those who know what Ryan stands for. Support Obama if you want to, but don’t convince yourself that he is going to take care of the old and infirm. Just look at the money Obamacare takes out of Medicare. Get real here. Do your own investigation into what each person REALLY thinks and not what the MSM tells you they think.

You’ve seen the light and won’t be voting Obama/Biden (not that it will make a difference in MA)?

Yeah, just us 😉 Our opinions, values and beliefs are wrong, but yours is the only right one. Gotcha 🙂
Not sure where I said that, but I think the Bishops (and then Cardinal Ratzinger) were pretty clear on the values.

You’ve set up a neat false analogy.
