Do you always get a emotional release going to confession?

No. And I do not want it.

It is important that we do not expect the emotional release, because when it does not happen it can cause doubts.

No, I don’t recall ever getting what I would call an emotional release at or after Confession. I go anyway.

Yes. One way or another. Usually a good feeling getting things off my chest

Every now and then I do, but far from every time. I don’t really expect it anymore, though it’s nice when it happens.

I can’t remember ever having an emotional release after confession. Maybe I’ll have a vague “I’m glad I went to confession” feeling, but that’s about it. It’s fine though. I’m happy to go.

Feels about the same as when I’m found not guity of robbery or assaault. IOW, it can be emotional, but is in no way required or expected to be.

We receive the consolation of the Holy Spirit when Father says the words of absolution over us - then we know that our mortal sins have been forgiven and we’ve been restored to a right relationship with God.

Yes, often. I feel overwhelmed at the goodness of God and His power to wipe away sin. I feel like the luckiest person alive to have access to this marvelous sacrament

Sometimes, sometimes not. There is no pattern, and frankly it’s irrelevant.

Some of the answers surprise me! I’m not religious and just kind of assumed that most times…not always…there would be a feeling of emotional release. Learn something new every day!

For those that converted as adults or were away from the church for an extended period of time, did your first confession…or returning confession give you an emotional release?

It shouldn’t. Then you can do everything you want, if feel bad, just confess, and free. However is what usually happen, so sad

I’m not sure what it is. I only know when I walk out of the booth I feel better than when I walked in.
