Do you ever cry during mass?

I tend to cry at mass as well. It usually hits me when we pray for the deceased. -]/-] My husband of 26 years passed away 8 months ago and I am still dealing with that grief. It’s only been within the last month that I have actually been able to get through some days without crying. Even now, just writing about it, causes me to tear up. Going to mass is helping me through these times but sometimes it catches me off guard and the tears fall. It got so bad once that I barely made it through communion. I received communion and instead of returning to my pew, I had to head for the restroom to try and get myself under control. All I could do was sob and wait for it to pass. By the time I got myself straightened out, mass had ended. That made me feel bad that I wasn’t able to pull myself together in time for the final blessing at the end of mass. I’m just taking things a day at a time now and if I feel the need to cry, I just go with it and let it run it’s course.
I’m so sorry to read about your husband. Eight months is not nearly enough time to heal. Our daughter died 6 years ago and I still sometimes tear up during mass. Let the tears come when they will and don’t worry about getting yourself under “control”. Grief should not be denied or suppressed. You will have to deal with it eventually. One thing I’ve learned is that grief will wait for you, but you have to let yourself go through the process eventually. My Mom put it off for a whole year after my Dad died. She kept saying and acting like she was ok, but she fell apart eventually. God bless you. I know how hard it is.

Some songs make me cry, such “Where You There”. Often I cry while kneeling after Holy Communion. The power of that moment is impossible for me to put into words.

This is a wonderful thread. Every post is giving me inspiration and putting my tears into a new perspective.

Sometimes, I can almost get through mass without choking up. The two spots that always get me though, without fail, are when reciting the Lord’s Prayer and when saying, “Lord, I am not worthy to receive you.”

I haven’t cried after receiving the Eucharist, yet, but after I return to my pew and kneel in prayer, my body is covered with chills. I take that as a good sign.

Thank you, Jesus!
I agree wholeheartedly…I am glad I’m not alone…not that I want to see you all crying at mass. 😛 But, it helps to know that I’m not the only one to get choked up. Thanks for your reply, and God bless!

***I actually almost started crying today, at mass…I don’t know why, just felt moved by the homily, I think. ***

This is an old thread but I was wondering the same, I do not cry but I cry at every single mass and I do not know why, I thought there was something wrong with me!
And I love this song too, I listen to it daily and I always bawl.
