Do you ever cry during Mass?

Oh my goodness I thought I was the only one that would cry during Mass…🙂
Last week I was trying really hard not to cry as I was trying to take the sacraments. I was alittle embarrassed but then I quickly got over it… I have never felt God’s presence like that in my entire life and I knew he was there with me and guiding me…Just think of it as you are being touched by God and you feel his spirit and that is nothing to be embarrassed about…

It has happened, though it’s rare. It’s extremely rare with me anyway.

Yep - especially when we get to sing the Gloria for the first time after Lent - I’ve often been sobbing about half way through. :rolleyes:

I have several times.There are many reasons, sometimes I have this overwhelming feeling of Christ’s love for us that I just have to cry, specially during the Consecration, elevation of the Host, etc. Sometimes it’s just the sense of unity I get from the Mass, all of those people in there are my brothers and sisters and everywhere in the world a Mass is being said, with the same readings. I love that about being Catholic, you can feel that unity with the whole world, it just moves me to tears. Definitely the Mass where I cry the most is in the Easter Vigil Mass and sometimes in Christmas Mass.

Oh neat! Same thing happened to my fiance. First time I took her to Mass with me I wept during the Consecration…and she wept too! Afterwards she was very excited and made it clear she believed. She was baptized (like me, she was never baptized as a child), confirmed and received her first Holy Communion last year! We are so very blessed! 😃 And we still both regularly shed tears at Mass! Woo! :crying::dancing:

Ditto, except I was not the only one crying at Easter Vigil. It still happens to me on occasion even though I’m usually singing in the choir now.

I will just sometimes feel Christ’s presence more deeply. If a tear slips out or I get choked up, I just thank God for His love and continue to participate as best as I can in the liturgy. I’ve sometimes been kneeling after receiving the Eucharist and just realized minutes later that my face is wet. I’ve also had a moment or two during the singing of the Gloria. It is one of my favorite parts of the week to lift my voice to God singing glory!
 
Dear Catholic Family,
This is only my 2nd letter, but I felt that I poured out my soul to you all last week about my tears during Mass. So now you are part of my family. I didnt know what to expect. But I was sure delighted to get possitive response.
I wanted to clarify that my tears during Mass, and an ABBUNDANCE of tears after recieving Holy Communion, have always been TEARS OF JOY! There has never been sadness of any kind. I always wish that our church would give more personal prayer time right then. And I wrote a note to our Pastor to request a few extra minutes before they get into the announce-
ments. Our Church is having 7:30 Mass every weekday and night during Lent, so I am trying to make each night.

Yep, all the time. Especially right after receiving eucharist. I get this awesome feeling that moves me to tears.
 
sigh I wish. But I’m not really sure I ever did…

However I tend to be very private about things and don’t handle other’s seeing me cry very well…
 
Yup! And I get embarrassed too. This thread makes me feel a lot better. I tend to cry very easily…okay, I’m even getting teary eyed just reading this thread and knowing I’m not the only one :o

If I cry, it’s usually due to something in the homily that hits me personally, or during a hymn, which I feel is more noticeable because I have to cut out singing until I’ve regained composure.
 
Hello Catholic Family, I wanted to talk again about tears during Mass. It is not something I can turn on and off. It doesnt matter how many people are around me. Or maybe only a few people. My husband and I love going to Mass together. He barracades me on one side. When I go to Mass alone, sometimes I feel that people are starring at me. We always sit in the 1st row seat because we can watch the preist and every dramatic move on the altar as Jesus were there. Yes, as Jesus is holding out the bread, and holding up the wine to His apostles (us). It is a very powerful moment. My face has already begun to tremble. I ask Jesus for all the noises in the church to be quiet, so I can concentrate on just Him and I. I want to make my heart ready for the Eucharist Event. Although the Holy Spirit is always with me, and everyone who beleives. Each time is an Event! Sometimes it is hard to write these things down for people to read. But if it brings one more soul to Jesus, it is good.
 
I do, and then I always here a voice in the back of my head that says “Woman, why are you weeping?”

I love your happening and would love you to tell me why you say “apostel” when the church calls the lay “disciples”.
I am interested, becaust I was used in a situation of the five fold ministry earlier in life which some quiery. I agree that there are Apostels and disciples and other, depending on the amount of faith and choice of god’s will being done.

Alot of times when my Priest (Pastor) is preaching. His words move me. I know Christ is talking through him.

In questioning me about apostles and disciples, please accept me as a beginer writer. I am only putting all my inner-most thoughts down on paper. I have never had a spiritual counselor to talk to. The Holy Trinity has been my Spiritual Counselor.
When Jesus Christ offered bread and wine, those symbols of
His Body and Bood to his apostls/ or now in our lifetime, our Catholic preist offers this to me…I know that I will eat His Body and drink His Blood to have a chance of living forever with Him in Heaven.
Please correct me. Who is a disciple?

thanks for answering I don’t mean to sound down putting. The term Apostel as used in the bible as I see it was used after the Diciples received the Holy Spirit and went out to spread the word. In the Catholic religion it seems that the term is used mainly for Bishops, but in the gifts of the Holy Spirit I believe that the Holy Spirit has the right and will use the person who opens themself to His using the person the Spirit of God decides.

Sound opposing to the church? no I’m not I wouldn’t do that. I love your words I think that in them I feel much love for God the Holy Spirit, Jesus.

 To littleone,  I'm sorry that it took so long for a reply.  Its just that I was so busy.  I realize now that I used the wrong wording. I should have said the bishops would be the apostles on earth. And the disciples would be the Priests and lay Ministers.  There would also be a small number of people to whom The Holy Spirit would have bestowed Gifts (Acts 12-13-14).  These people would be using these gifts similar to a disciple.  They want no glory on earth.These gifts are not presents for oneself. They are to be used to help other people reach Heaven.  The Holy Spirit is also my Comfortor on earth. This sunday is Pentecost. I'm so excited. I see the fire burning over my head after I receive the Eucharist during Mass.
