I bet you do… all the time. When your child asks about the Christmas presents, you tell them that they were delivered by Santa Claus - and you know that it is a shameless LIE. When the kid asks how the babies are born, you probably say something about the “cabbage patch” and do not tell about the clinical detail of intra-vaginal intercourse. In other words, you LIE. Do you enlighten your kids that the Easter Bunny is not real, that it is just another LIE. When your kid is due to have a vaccine-shot, do you tell them: “yes, honey, it will hurt”… or do you LIE to them?
But LIES are a sin.You are not supposed to lie, at all… ever. Do you go and confess that you lied to your children? Do you make a solemn promise not to do it again? There is no such thing as an “innocent, white lie”? Or is there? Or are the children not “entitled” to the truth, just like the Nazi interrogators, who asked about the Jews’ hiding place?
How do you reconcile your frequent lies with your professed “thou shalt not lie” commandment?
