The use ofIām assuming youāre kidding?I meant āstateā as in āstate of beingā, āstate of mind.ā
Like what?I have no problem with Hell.
Hell makes sense, unlike a raft of other things we are called to accept as Catholics.
Well, there sure are a lot of powerful people who are trying to make evil things look like theyāre good things.Yeap, with a lot of Representatives in the House!![]()
Well, original sin, for one. The fact that we are all punished for something ancestral that we at no time had a choice in.Like what?
This sounds about right. By the grace of God, hopefully none of us will find out the detailsā¦Well, there sure are a lot of powerful people who are trying to make evil things look like theyāre good things.
But I digress - Hell is real. We donāt really know what Hell will be like, though Jesus compared it to āeternal darkness, where there is wailing and gnashing of teethā, āthe fiery furnaceā (an allusion to the Book of Daniel, seemingly Jesusās favorite scripture apart from the Psalms), and to the Valley of Ben-Hinnom (transliterated into Greek as āGehennaā). Before Jesusās time, of course, the Valley of Ben-Hinnom was the site of Topeth - the illicit temple/altar/āhigh placeā to the Moabite? ādeityā of Molech (by the way, the ancient Israelites, though not believing the āgodsā of their neighbors to be God, did generally see them as being real spirits - usually considering their neighborsā āgodsā to be demons). Later, though, by the time of Jesus, the valley had become a giant trash burn pit which kept burning day and night - with the smoke being seen for miles.
Jesus probably had both of these images - the image of the illicit demonic temple and the image of the never-ending burn pit - in mind when He used Gehenna as an allegory for Hell. It is probably punishment enough for us to be separated from God for all eternity, wallowing in our own disordered self-love.
Iām not sure thatās necessarily right. That is not the Catholic teaching on hell, anymore than heaven is a bunch of babies with wings playing harps while sitting on clouds. Study the subject.
Yep, Senators Fienstein and Boxer. If Hell is a state, does that mean there are two Senators from Hell???

Yes, I beleive 100% in hell. A punishment of non-existence is not worse then eternal separation from God. That would be a balm.I believe in heaven, but I donāt believe in hell. Thatās just my honest belief about the matter. Of course not everyone can get into heaven, but I think those who donāt just die. They donāt go to hell, they donāt go anywhere. They literally just stop existing.
Wouldnāt a punishment for being a mortal sinner be much worse if you ended up completely dead and alone versus being with other sinners in hell? What do you guys think?
I think that people who think this find little reason NOT to sin nor to go to confession and repent for the sins which dearly offend God. Many will pay a heavy price for such false beliefs in the end.I believe in heaven, but I donāt believe in hell. Thatās just my honest belief about the matter. That is a good point. And one I often wonder about. Why do so few people believe in hell but then turn around and believe in other things Jesus said. Or even heaven? Jesus lied about hell but you believe him about the Eucharist? It just never made sense to meā¦Jesus does talk quite a lot about hell in the bible, so neither I nor the Church are in a position to contradict him.
