Do you kill bugs?

I really hate killing bugs–something I rarely do. I think I drive my husband nuts when I insist on putting them outside–even if it’s midnight and we’re in bed.

I’m still hoping that God has a place in heaven even for them–not in my heavenly home, though.

From the article.
“Their experience of the world is not as rich or as detailed as our experience – our big neocortex adds something to life!” the scientists wrote recently. “But it still feels like something to be a bee.”
It’s probably the case that only humans have the ability to self-reflect - a complicated process that allows us to be aware that we are aware of things. But we still spend much of our time not doing that, being conscious in the more straightforward way.
It’s okay to kill insects so long as their is a reason. The big one being that they are pests.

What general area do you live in? (So that I can never move there.)

I was a biology major and I was especially interested in insects (they really are fascinating). When it comes to insects in the house…flies, mosquitoes, ants, roaches are dead. I also kill spiders inside but I leave them alone outside (spiders are not insects). I have found some beetles that wandered in and I let them out. I would NEVER kill a praying mantis, butterfly, moth or dragonfly.
I do love insects, but some of them (flies, mosquitoes, ants, roaches) I really, really hate.

Depends on the bug:
  • Spiders–sometimes. Definitely kill if it’s a sac spider because they bite. Big black hairy spiders in parts of the basement where they’ll never bother anyone are “no kill” because they kill other pests. Outdoor spiders that find themselves indoors are spared and get returned to the wild.
  • centipedes–sometimes. They can be beneficial because they kill other pests, but sometimes they’re in the wrong place at the wrong time.
  • flies–yes unless they’re at a window or door when it’s easier to shoo them out.
  • moths–no, they don’t bother anything.
  • ants–yes, kill if they’re invading, which they’ve been doing a whole lot of over the past couple years.
  • mosquitoes–yes, kill
I obviously spent too much time thinking about this.

I try not to kill bugs that I find outdoors. But, I kill all bugs I find in my home.

Any bug I find in my house I cannot. I carefully catch them and return them to the outdoors. As inconvenient as this my concience will not allow anything else. Does anyone share this issue?
Sometimes I do as you say, and sometimes I kill them.

That might have gotten it,

Wearing skinny jeans is definitely immodest. You can see the whole figure so mind as well be naked?

The spiders and bugs in my home, we have an understanding, don’t crawl on me, and i’ll let you live your bug life in peace. If you enter my zone of personal space and crawl on me, all bets are off.

Even if you don’t feel bad about killing bugs I don’t see how you could brag about a record of kills or set out on a genocide.

Headlice inspire a genocide of sorts. I will fight anyone who tells me to show lice mercy. Or just lean in for a selfie and passive agressively give them lice.

the only bugs that are safe from my wrath are ladybugs, honey bees & dragonflies

oh, yes, hornets & wasps also; they have a tendency to fight back fiercely; i steer clear of those 😦

Why in the world would I want a conservative estimate? I always go for hyperbole.

I have a grand-father that was artistic with hanging bird food from left over grease (molded to old coffee cans) to feeding mice in his garage, may God rest his soul. I have a philosophy that if I need an oar/bat to kill the critter, it is a definite “no”… But if it can be stepped on then yes, I do. I’m paranoid of thinking of something crawling on me while I sleep. Perhaps I should do what you do for the sake of “brother” bug…but haven’t had a guilt trip about it yet. 😌

I definitely kill any cockroaches because I’m terrified of them.
Luckily, baits seem to keep them away:)
