Do you kill bugs?

Thou shalt not kill.

Was the death and suffering of the bug necessary is an important question.

-was the bug poisonous? / dangerous to health/ did it have a sting/ bite,
-was the only way to get the bug outdoors, to kill it first?
(Legitmate reasons to kill a bug).

Or
-if it was just to take pleasure out of unnecessary animal suffering, then that is against the Catechism which states that unnecessary suffering / animal death, is not christian.

So the question in each situation is:
-is this necessary?
Complete nonsense. It is NOT a sin of any kind to kill bugs.

Our Jain friends would disagree with that summary. But they believe that human souls can transmigrate into insects and other bugs. The Roman Catholic Church considers this to be a heresy.

I kill poisonous spiders and mozzies and flies and other biting bugs.

Well, then I guess we gotta become vegetarians because everyone knows the Jews never ate meat or sacrificed animals.

Thou shalt not kill is a prohibition against murder. Murder is killing an innocent human. I added “(human)” because YoungCatholicGuy took the commandment out of context.

Good grief. Whenever I read threads like this, I mean really, people complain about trads, but these threads aabout killing animals, it is ludicrous.

Is wearing skinny jeans immodest?
Is eating meat a sin?

You know the answer, which is NO.

I avoid. I kill on purpose venomous ones if they are in the house or nearby.

I revere St. Francis mightily, but I don’t recall that he ever referred to “Brother Termite” or “Brother Carpenter Ant.”

I look up on the internet what St. Francis said about brother fly. He said, in my words, he was a freeloader. He eats the honey that the bee worked so hard to gather. 😀

I’m thankful for this thread reminding me I need to buy more insecticide. My wife threatens to move out every time a scorpion is in the house.

Oh, I used to live in a ground floor apartment and an army of ants invaded and went after the kitty food. For a while I would vacuum up hundreds of those ants, moving along their little Ho Chi Minh trail…eventually had to bring in the pros.

Roly-polies as my daughter called them are crustaceans. They like to live near swimming pools sometimes. She used to play with them and sometimes get a kick out of bouncing them around.

She is crazy about lady bugs.

Yes, but what all those poor frogs that have to go around on those tiny crutches, after people decided to eat frog legs. I kinda feel sorry for them.

Those bayous are probably full of them swamp rabbits like the one that almost got Jimmy Carter in '79.

This is a true story. The names and places may be changed to protect the identity of those in the story, but…

I knew a couple who were in the exterminating business. They also ran a little bug and reptile zoo on the side. The reptiles were living, cute, etc… some of the bugs were dead and pinned to a cork board.

The wife liked to collect weird bugs. Her husband brought her a huge centipede from Viet Nam. She immediately put it into a tank for display purposes. This monster knocked his corn into his drinking water. It fermented, becoming like a corn whiskey, I suppose.

One day he drank too much and got drunk. It killed him, so she pinned him to a cork board, too.

Even bugs overdo things.
