Why would she deny christ?
This is a very good question.
She supprts the wisdom and compassion of jesus with her words and actions.
Apart from the fact that she supports the slaughter of children, for example. Apart from minor issues like that - oh, wait, yes, I’m sure Jesus would be PERFECTLY fine with the killing of 4000 children a day in the US alone. My mistake.
Oprah loves Jesus, she just says that you dont have to believe tha Jesus is God.
But Jesus IS God - so she can’t love Him if she is telling lies about Him, can she? If I say I love my wife, but tell lies about her, do I really love her?
The person Jesus. Jesus wisdom is God, not the flesh & blood historical figure who died.
I see that you aren’t a Christian - that explains a great deal. Okay, I’ll lay this out for you.

The person Jesus is a Divine Person with two natures and two wills - totally human AND totally divine. One person. You cannot separate Jesus’ humanity from His Divinity. The whole foundation of who Jesus is is that He is God - without that, He is nothing. “Wisdom” cannot be God - God is a person, not merely some sort of idea, some sort of thought process.
Jesus lives in our hearts when we know him, but if we are arrogant then our hears are hard like pharaoh.
Very true - I consider it the height of arrogance for some new-age philosophy like yours to be touted as the truth in gross defiance of the beliefs of the vast number of people in this country (I presume you are in the USA) and the evidence of everything of any account written about Jesus for 2000 years. I would say that you don’t know Jesus, because you deny the truth of who He is.
The curch discredits itself when it says that you have to “believe” or your condemed to hell. No other religion says that,
That is such a ludicrous statement I don’t even need to address it - come back to me when you have done some comparative religion courses, please. Plenty of religions say that or the equivalent - believe what we teach because only that is the way to get to Heaven / Paradise etc. If you don’t believe, then you will do to a place of torment. Plenty of religions teach that - including the Jews and the Muslims. Even the re-incarnationalist religions teach a version of that, with higher and lower karmic re-incarnation.
and Jesus never said it,
Other than the many quotes which say - including the one quoted above - from the Bible, you mean?
and a person cant will belief anyway.
Faith is an act of will - yes, you can. Faith is a conscious putting of trust in God, it is (in part) an intellectual assent.
What ever happened to saved by grace??
Still taught by the Catholic Church, I believe - as it has been for about 2000 years. Grace is what inspires us to faith - without grace, we cannot have faith.

You really need to learn what Christianity teaches before you attack it.
The trouble with the christians is they cant understan jewish expression and they refuse to try. Jesus lives! He lives in the jewish religion and the Buddist religion but not in Christianity which cant even be counted as a religion.
So - let me get this straight. Because this is just genuinely funny.

i) You say Buddhism is a religion - when its adherents say it is NOT.
ii) You say that a religion which DENIES Jesus’ two major claims (divinity and messiahship) in fact has more understanding of Christ than the religion which is based on Him, and actually ACCEPTS His two major claims.
iii) You say Christianity is not a religion - when every single person who has studied these matters makes it clear that it is not only a religion, but is - in fact - the most popular religion in the world currently and in the history of the world.
It bases all its doctine on sombody elses sacred scripture that it cant understand.
Actually, no - Christianity (authentic Christianity) doesn’t BASE doctrine on Sacred Scripture - we base it on revelation; SOME of which is Sacred Scripture. And we understand it MUCH better than anyone else - because only we have the fullness of revelation in the person of Jesus Christ.

Just as a matter of interest - what is it that you believe? What are you? If I know that, I will better be able to evangelize you and address your obvious errors concerning God. At the moment, you look like a new ager - but there are always variations.

If you want to believe something else, that’s fine - but please leave Jesus alone. Don’t take the person who founded a religion and then spread lies about Him. Be honest now; your philosophy is less than 200 years old - tell me, why did God allow such errors to continue for 1800 years, if they really are errors?

Dear Morningkill,

Thank you for responding to my question. I truly had no idea about sola scriptura when I posted my comments. I would never wish to spread any type of heresy!

Unfortunately, after researching it online, I still don’t completely understand why the Catholic Church teaches against it - but that is off the topic on this thread. I will ask a priest to explain further.

Thanks,

DSF

I did not wish to imply that you were spreading a heresy - you were not. But, the answer to your comment was the you would NOT want to spread a heresy!

Here is an article I wrote on the subject - it may be of help to you.

If Opra says that there are many paths to know God then she is right. The bible states that jesus is the only way to God but that means the wisdom of Jesus, not the historical figure of jesus. Jesus wisdom is the same wisdom in many religions and experiences. Wisdom is the same now as it was in the beginning and she existed before the world was created. The wisdom of jesus is about what is real and true and knowing jesus in our hearts is the path to God.
philosophy didn’t die on the cross…

“Many paths to know God”

If Oprah meant that each person’s journey is different then maybe she has a point but ultimately there is but one destination and Jesus provided the key to the Kingdom. It is His death and resurrection that provided the way to salvation for the whole world. I do believe that if a person lives his/her life according to the Commandments and loves God no matter what religion he/she will be saved. Jesus established His Church and provided us with all the tools necessary for our sanctification and salvation. As God is merciful he will not penalise anyone for not following “His way” because he understands that for many people this is not possible because of persecution of the Christian Churches in many countries.

🙂

I remember watching her shows when she first started bringing in the “Mr. Oz” fellow and knew right away she was getting way off track. I think this is a spectacular example of the ‘enemy’ grasping hold of a very influential person in hopes of taking down alot of other innocent people that don’t realize what they are getting into.
I hope someone helps her get back to where she needs to be!!
Keep the Faith N Sea

This is what the Church teaches - BECAUSE “to love God” means to know what He is; and what He is is Jesus Christ. Loving God begins with knowing Jesus.

Denying Jesus’ divinity isn’t loving God.

Sad huh, all of that money, and how all she used to do before she got it was talk about God, and how he was her everything, now she got money and made it her new god. Oh well goes back to the old saying the devil will give you anything you want, all you have to do is turn to him and away from God, and then after he gives you everything you asked for he destorys you with it. Well anyone who thinks money is everything just look at Oprah and how lost she is now. I guess if I have to either have less material things with God or more without him. Less is best for sure. My choice is God no doubt about it!

I am afraid you are wrong. The Catholic Church teaches that anyone can be saved, whether the person has heard of Christ or not. How can a person be held accountable for violating christian principles when he doesn’t know Christ??
Try that in a court of law: “Your honor, I broke the law, but I didn’t know you. Therefore, you can’t find me guilty.”

Try that in a court of law: “Your honor, I broke the law, but I didn’t know you. Therefore, you can’t find me guilty.”
That’s not what the situation is; it’s more like “I had no idea that the law prohibited that”. And if you genuinely had no idea, then a just judge will let you off.

Now, judges assume, however, that everyone is equipped with basic understandings. So, saying “Your honor, I had no idea that it was illegal to steal cars in this city” isn’t going to cut it.

Invincible ignorance is a perfectly valid defence before God. The problem is, is that VERY few people have invincibnle ignorance and NO-ONE has it with regard to certain sins (murder, theft, lying, dishonesty, rape, sexual sins, etc. etc.) because of the Natural Law. God knows that we have general principles of “good dealing” written on our hearts.

Actually, the Church does believe that there is hope for others that do not know Him. In spite of this, thru his mercy and grace, they can still find salvation. There are good, loving people, who will never know the way that we know. I guess to be more precise, "to **know him **and deny him is something else.

i am unimpressed in some ways… but she does kind of have a point about how (basically) someone who has never heard of Jesus shouldn’t be condemnd to Hell…

I don’t know much about her, which is why i am asking…
That is not only not a catholic belief, but its illogical and baseless.

I am not only unimpressed by oprah - but whenever someone says, " oprah said…" to me…it is a non-reference.

That’s not what the situation is; it’s more like “I had no idea that the law prohibited that”. And if you genuinely had no idea, then a just judge will let you off.
He will???

Not in any court in my experience.

Have you ever heard the expression “ignorance of the law is no excuse”?
Invincible ignorance is a perfectly valid defence before God.
It isn’t Biblical.

From what I have heard she is saying dont believe what you were taught, think for yourself. You will find it even today on this site, People will say i am a thinking Catholic. Another wards the ones that obey and do what Christ taught us dont have a brain or something, They say dont listen to the Pope, Dont believe everything the bible tells you. step out of the box. how many times have you heard that one. All Oprahism, Is fine for the People who do truely know about God because they know better. But how about the poor souls that are searching? God forbid what they are going to go through, If God didnt want us to be taught he would have never left the Apostles, and sent his only Son. But OPRAH thinks we dont need all that stuff, All I can say is i am sure glad we only have to pay for our sins not others. I sure would never want that sin on me when i met God.

It is sad, & as I once read on here the acronym for ego:

Edging God Out 😦

Absolutely Oprah denied Christ - she said that “her” Jesus didn’t come to found a relgion, didn’t come to start Christianity. She gives time and credence to Ulrick “Eckhart” Tolle (who changed his name so that he would be more like Meister Eckhart) who flatly denies the Trinity, the divinity of Christ and most of the things civilized society relies on in his book “A New Earth”.

Tolle is a dangerous man, and Oprah is either exceptionally stupid to endorse a book which she hasn’t read, exceptionally stupid not to see the problems with his book and Christianity, exceptionally stupid to not realize that saying “my Jesus didn’t come to start Christianity”, or simply not Christian and denying Christ.

And stupid people don’t make that kind of money. She’s not Christian, and she needs to be stopped.
Ms. Winfrey, like many others in America and the world have been formed, shaped and guided to accept a “new age” way of thinking.

The new age movement encompassess many pagan and antichristian philosophies. L. Ron Hubbard is just the “label” that popularized it.

It isn’t Biblical.
As I pointed out above, sola scriptura is a heresy - something doesn’t have to be in the Bible in order to be true.

Seriously, that is that the Church teaches. The Church says this - the pillar and foundation of the truth. A de fide teaching of the Church. How many more ways can I say it?

There will be people in Heaven who never knew Christ when they were alive - there will be NO people in Heaven who knew Christ and died denying Him. Everyone in Heaven will be there because of Christ’s sacrifice, but not all of them will have learned about it before their death.

That is the teaching of the Church, and it is not in dispute.

As I pointed out above, sola scriptura is a heresy - something doesn’t have to be in the Bible in order to be true.
Yes, you did claim that. However, it is my claim that it is Biblical and it is my belief, based on many interactions with Catholics on this topic that you’re basing it on what you’ve been told sola scriptura is, rather than what we actually believe.
Seriously, that is that the Church teaches.
Good for them. That still doesn’t make it Biblical.
